Elite: Dangerous - Gravitational lensing around a black hole

AeroMechanical says...

Well, nobody has ever seen a black hole so no idea. On the other hand, if there was no other matter around it, that's probably about what it would look like. Given the apparent size of the event horizon, though (the black dot), I think maybe if anything the lensing effect is exaggerated. The developers claim to be going for realism though, at least in the presentation of the galaxy, so they probably did work it out properly.

Monday's Mona Lisa "Katy Perry"

Cassie1123 says...

Hello all,
I've just been alerted to this thread through the a few fans of this band. Maybe I can shed some light on what seems to have happened. First of all, I co-manage this band and NO, I will not be posting any videos, because obviously that would be a violation of this websites rules. Understood, they're trying to keep this an entirely "spam free zone" and not used for any type of promotional tool.
That being said, I also understand why KellyMML posted the video here. KellyMML has not "lied" or tried to spam anyone in anyway, NOR did she post this video for some type of self promotion, as Kelly is NOT a band member nor is she a paid employee in any way shape or form. She IS however a street team leader, but is not paid, given any types of gifts or holds any kind of "rank" within the management company.
Kelly was one of the artists earliest fans, and through her own enjoyment and wanting to be a part of their growth, as taken to sharing their work online through out the world, and I must say has done an incredible job of it.

I completely understand the views that the site owners take on spam, and not wanting VideoSift to become some annoying sounding board of musicians/comedians/actors and up-and-comers posting constantly about their "not yet anything" dreams. I get it. There are plenty of websites out there that allow this and I myself have become irritated at having to scroll through trash to see something good lol.

After some digging, I was able to contact Kelly myself and figure out why this may have happened. Kelly informed me that when she email the website to find out how to put a video up, they replied to her with instructions AND the rules. Still confused, I asked her to forward me that email.
I immediately saw where the confusion begin.
Kelly worded her email as if she WERE either a bandmember, or in the very least someone who works for them. This isn't the case, but it's noticeable by reading her inquiry why it looked that way.
After she read the rules, she posted the video. I'm guessing that because she used those terms when she first contacted VideoSift, they assumed (understandably so) that "we and our" meant this was some type of self promotion.
Since I've been notified of this issue, Kelly has been instructed that while she is more than welcome to run a street team for MML and we appreciate her spreading the word, to please not refer to herself, or any of her posts/shares/activities as if she were connected with the band either AS a member, or as an employee of management, and to also identify herself as a fan. She is also welcomed to explain that she runs her own street team but is not employed by or managed by anyone on their professional team.

Hope this clears some things up. Feel free to contact me at cassie at mondaysmonalisa dot com if you need any other information. We would like to dispell any negativity affiliated with Monday's Mona Lisa.
Thank you!

10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman

Harassment is a bad thing, but I feel very sorry for anyone that does not engage in general pleasantness, and finds phrases like "how are you?" and "nice day!" to be a form of harassment. Worst still, to chastise and publicly present them as harassers on youtube .. what sort of lowlife do you have to be to do that? I don't care how many actual harassers you caught, that is not an acceptable method so put the net away and get the fishing rod out.

I say things like hello, nice day.. And if i'm in a queue and i think of something to say that i think someone might find funny or help someone out, i'll say it. I don't expect a reply, but if there's a fun person around then it might pass the time better. I asked someone of the female persuasion at my pool the other week if they were looking for the sauna (slightly hidden away) because i heard her talking to what i assume was her husband about the sauna. I do that for old men, old ladies, fat blokes, skinny women; all sorts.. i offer men and women help out of the jacuzzi if they need it. Her reaction was to say "No..... WHY?" very pointedly.

Well you know what? Fuck her - i did something nice and now she's the one that's being rude to others. I cannot fucking stand the high and mighty attitude of these people, as though they have never been guilty of accidentally doing something other people didn't want them to do. As though they have an inbuilt capability to read the motive of other people. Obviously i offered to explain the location of the sauna because i wanted to have sex with her in it (yeah, sex in a disgusting public sweat box & burnt genitals, my favourite), god forbid someone actually be nice to someone else. I felt like being rude back, but that'd make me worse than her.

There is a very fine line between being an activist against harassment, and being an unhinged arsehole who goes around over reacting and getting the wrong end of the stick and hurting people who were showing genuine honesty. I'm so sorry if you've been harassed in the past, but you don't see victims of domestic abuse blaming everyone that looks/talks at them funny in the street for all the pain they've suffered - which is substantially more painful and personality-warping than the average activist blogger jumping on the "trigger-warning" bangwagon.

Harassment exists and this blanket of "harassment" that these videos engender for all sorts of shit is distracting us from that issue, and to some degree turning people against the issue..... I mean, if i get unfairly treated like a scumbag for years by "mostly" women who assume i'm harassing them, do i get license to make videos about it and complain about women as a whole, judging every action of every woman to be one of harassment because of my own insecurities? That's why these kind of videos are so poorly received @EMPIRE.. the majority of the content is the videographer sneering at people for being pleasant and exchanging niceties, why should people laud that kind of behaviour? I expect that behaviour to be discouraged by women as well and i'd forgive them for taking more notice of the fewer examples of harassment than i did, because opinions are a bit selfish by nature.

And i didn't even question the validity of the supporting cast..... I'm sure Rob Bliss (OF ROB BLISS CREATIVE DOT COM EVERYBODY FAVOURITE AND LIKE PLS) would have no desire to help make this video more interesting! I quote his own philosophy here from his website, he believes in "giving people the content that they want." Interestingly worded remit... Why does no one ever question the source if it's a "reality" video? The guy practically states in his "approach" section that he aims to pander to people, he doesn't want to challenge viewer opinion...

Walloftext, sorry, but i don't like the sentiment of this video, and i will not let people in the comments tell me that i am a bad person for doing so - these are my reasons.

10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman

scheherazade says...

So, as a practical matter... how do you approach a stranger on the street when you're interested in them?
Or is it simply that people 'out and about' are categorically off limits to approach?

I get that this looks bad - when you condense a day's worth of calls into a few minutes. But she prolly passed 100k people in that day just walking around.

(There were 3k kids in my high school, it didn't look like a lot when you see them all together at a rally. It isn't hard to imagine walking past 30 high schools worth of people on busy streets like NY has in a 1 day period).

All this video makes me think is that Indian women are onto something with that forehead dot business. Marking yourself as available/unavailable would not only spare yourself the pointless calling, but would also not waste the men's time on approaching women that have no interest in being approached.

Nixie: Wearable Camera That Can Fly

Payback says...

The phone screen has those thumb "joystick" dots so I'd say no, not autonomous.

Probably doesn't even have a prototype.

newtboy said:

Is it autonomous, or do you need a 'camera man' driving it with a cell phone? If it does all that by itself....AMAZING! If it's just an RC camera, still good, but not as good.

"FETCH....Umm....wait, I was only Kidding y'know"

newtboy jokingly says...

...and @dannym3141...

You use 3 dots to display a thought/sentence continuation/trailing off, not 2.
Also, you don't end sentences with a quotation mark or emoji, you forgot your period.
I assumed the misspelling of 'grammar' was done ironically and intentionally, if not, strike 3!
No matter how warm you feel, I declare stalemate in this grammar battle!

7X4 is not 28 its 7 circles with 4 dots in each circle. This is the crap I face with my kids every day. It a round about way and hence illogical.

Rounding to the nearest thousand 9501 is 9000 but who rounds a number like this? normal rounding of a thousand involves a number worth rounding ex 210, 898 is rounded to to 211k out of convenience and where the hundreds are less important

Russell Brand debunks David Cameron's War Mongering

Thanks for the link... seen it before, but good nevertheless.
In the media lock down we have right now it takes someone like R.B. to make the mental leaps and join the dots.
If there is better sociopolitical commentary out there about current events I am all ears (links please).

If Brand was more 'together' he'd be towing the corporate news line and sucking that teat or joining the rest of the celebrity morons in drowning us in bullshit.
btw. this guy was just (days ago) character assassinated on Fox news, so he's making waves and also under fire.
Massive props for what he's doing and for keeping it 'real' ie. fuck bland talking heads and regurgitated government/corporate propaganda.

Real-Time Face Tracking & Projection Mapping

Jinx says...

I quite like the aesthetic the white dots create. Brb, gonna tipex some on right now.

I wonder if the projector can black out the eyes well enough that you could open them without being blinded.

newtboy said:

Pretty neat, but can they do it without the white dots all over the face? Couldn't they make the tracking dots only visible in UV light, so the camera can track them but they don't interfere with the projected image? That would look so much better.

The problem with this country is it doesn't read. It doesn't inform itself on the issues. I'd probably still be a major nigger hating racist if it wasn't for books. If you want the skinny on that go to my Facebook Notes and read my "Racism Speech" which really isn't a speech so much as it is part of my memoirs to my two boys.

I wasn't really into this Islam thing until I happened to read The Haj by Leon Uris and Because They Hate by Brigitte Gabrielle almost back to back. I'll submit the following to give you an idea of what happened.

“we may describe it, (jihad), as a surgeon's lancet and not a butcher's knife.” Mahmoud Mohammed Taha (I'm sure there are about 200 million dead people that would disagree with him. And this from the guy who's been called the Mahatma Ghandi of Islam.)

About two years ago I ordered some reading material, including Taha's "Second Message", and a “study” Koran to find out what this "Islam thing" was all about. When I was sixteen I was chanting nam yo ho renge kyo to a piece of paper, (gahonzen?), having NO idea what I was doing. A few years later, hair down to my ass and a knapsack on my back, I hitchhiked cross country, got saved in Nashville Tenn. and went to live on a Christian farm in Mansfield Ohio. (Not the prison.) My gra'mom called me a "seeker". As I said, there came a time when I wanted to understand this "religion of peace". It was Humaid's article on jihad I found in my Summarized Bukhari that decided “things” for me.

If Islam is the “religion of peace”, where in Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid's article on jihad can I find the equivalent of “Love Thy Neighbor” and “good will toward men”? And explain its prominence, and significance almost as an “Introduction”, in a book that's described as “the most authentic and true among the books of the Prophet”: My Summarized Sahih Al-Bukhari. Also address “jihad” as it's defined in Reliance of the Traveller and answer the same question. (Chapter O-9.0: Jihad O: “Jihad means to war against non-Muslims, and is etymologically derived from the word mujahada signifying warfare to establish the religion.” And explain why the “greater” jihad is only mentioned once here and never seen again in this “Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law”.)

Compare Humaid's “jihad” and Emmet Fox' Sermon on the Mount and tell me which one best represents a spirit of Love and “compassion”.

Lastly; would you pick Sheikh bin Humaid to sit on a Human Rights Commission? (That's a trick question by the way.)

Maybe you can throw in an explanation of the Jews are “monkeys, pigs and rats” on page 656 and the part where Mo says, “if somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him” on page 613 in the chapter on Jihad.

Also, explain why Humaid's “jihad” shouldn't be “Exhibit A” in refuting the “religion of peace” claim.

I've posted this many times to many Muslims and have yet to get a single response. Well, I did receive a response from some goofball named “Dr.” Mohsen El-Guindy asking me to read his books. Instead I downloaded a bunch of his articles. Which were pure rants. An Imam, sidestepped it by telling me I had to “study Islam” to gain a greater understanding.
