By 2030 it is expected to overtake Indonesia as the largest Muslim country in the world (About 97% of the population) The majority are Sunni, with an estimated 5–20% Shi'a.
Between the dominant strain and the 5-20% of Shi'a throw-backs to the 4rth century,of the rest.... It's an ancient seat of human society, rich on culture and heritage, unfortunately, Muslim religion dictates much of influence on government policies as well. Oh. They have the fucking atomic bomb, too. That's worrisome...nah, fuck it, they're not suicidal.
I have a silly question for y'all. How many 14-year-old kids do you know or have heard of in Canada ,the United States or Denmark who can fashion replacement parts for an AK-47 in a hut with a dirt floor and a home-made smelt?
The alternatives to not-so-'precise or humane air strikes involve equally as 'problematic and inhumane aspects. I can think of only one scenario where everybody wins.
UN-TEACH SHIT-THINK TO EACH NEW GENERATION. A similar fix would make North Korea a country full of humans being instead of robot putty husks, in just outside of 2 generations.

This is why Obama destabilizing the country by ramping up Drone attacks and soldiers in Afghanistan is stupid. We don't own the world, but we act like we do.

Around 6% of US Americans hunt, yet around 34% own a gun; therefore around 82% of gun owners own a gun for something other than hunting. Bringing up hunting is just avoiding the issue.

Besides, I don't think that guy's UZI is for hunting rabbits.

Also, you don't need to teach children how to safely use firearms if they don't have access to firearms. Kinda like how you don't need to teach them how to safely use a particle accelerator, even though they too are dangerous.

So you're offering free classes? And you want to live in a country where every child is taught how to use a firearm?
I'd prefer a society where my kids play too much video games, so I tell them enough already go outside and play!
I'd rather that than feel like I live in a society where I have to teach a seven year old how to kill people (sorry, defend oneself with a deadly weapon).
You know, like Liberia or Mozambique.

I don't know enough about firearms, and own none. I'm hardly qualified. Also, please stop putting words in my mouth. I want to live in a civilized country, where people understand PROPER use of, and care for, firearms, including safety, control, and discipline.
Your obsession with murder is a bit concerning. Firearms are very effective at hunting. They are great at providing food from that use. Why you are so obsessed with war and murder, I really don't know. Should you be on a watch list?

16 year old athlete breaks world record

Velocity5 sounds like one of the "people" who wrote the helpful suggestions to mankind found on the Georgia Guidestones.....

Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
Unite humanity with a living new language.
Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
Balance personal rights with social duties.
Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.

I have a suggestion there for ya, sparky?? Perhaps what you perceive as some career or discipline that benefits mankind would be perceived as detrimental to the planet for someone else....What if your concept of reality is based on perceptive dysfunction distilled in you through an engineered psycho-cybernetic mind-fuck in order to create a member of the machine who sees only practical application and duty to the whole as beneficial?

The world needs insects. They carry out dutifully, tasks necessary to the functioning of systems....
She also needs artisans, musicians, and quantum theorists, eh? There's a balance to consider here Chim-Chim....Thank God for people working in refineries and perky chicks poppin' flips, so I may continue my tenure here on "PLANET PRACTICAL" with some relief from the CORN-COB-UP-ASS types determined to make it uncomfortable and boring.
Rather be here than in the Terminator world, Slim!

Fear is fear, whether it's of Hell or of prison, it's still fear. You need to teach with positive reinforcement, empathy, to instill in the kids a proper sense or right and wrong. The Bible has some good lessons, the Golden Rule is one of the best, Do unto others as you would have done unto you. I think just that act of projecting yourself unto others can give you the perspective to not be a dick all the time. At no point does God need to be involved, just an understanding and appreciation of your fellow man. Good and responsible behavior doesn't start and stop with religion, and I can't stand it when religions try and claim a monopoly on morality, because it just isn't true.

>> ^shinyblurry:

You're not going to stop kids from sinning by yelling at them. It's not the fear of going to prison which is going to stop them from screwing up, it's the fear of the Lord. If you raise your kids correctly, to honor and reverence Almighty God, using corporal punishment when appropriate, you will end up with a child of honor, who will respect other people, and want to contribute something good to society. Of course this also requires ample doses of unconditional love, and sensitivity to the needs of your child. It requires a total commitment to preparing a child for life in this world and giving him all the tools he needs to succeed. Discipline is a necessary component of this, one that is often missing in many homes. The scripture says if you don't discipline your child you hate him. Godly discipline, to note, is not to tear a child down in anger, but build a child up with love, and teach him how to take responsibility for his actions and own his mistakes instead of passing blame on to others.
If a bad product is coming out of a factory, then you need to check the assembly line. It's bad parenting which is creating these children. Parents who constantly coddle their children, try to be their friends and buy them off instead of discipline them. Parents who raise them on television and r rated movies and violent video games and all of this raw sewage of a corrupt and depraved culture being pumped into their fragile young minds. Parenting, just like everything else in life, is a garbage in garbage out principle. I just read a story about 4 eight year old kids performing sex acts on one another because they had figured out how to access internet porn on their ipads. This wouldn't happen if their parents actually knew or cared what was going on in their kids lives.
There used to be a moral standard in this country founded on the bible, but America has rebelled against God and rejected His laws, and now we are reaping the harvest of our rebellion. Our children are growing up without a moral compass or godly role models and you even cannot begin to count this cost. The only way this situation will change is if we fall on our faces and repent of our wickedness:
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Uncle Gives His Nephew An ASS WHOOPING For FB Thuggery

I think this ignores the fact that thrashing a and beatings used to be common, and society has always had problems. You're never going to convince me that the way to stop violence is to be violence. All you're saying with that is that you're somehow special and violence is ok only when you're doing it. I just don't agree with that.

>> ^Lawdeedaw:

I think the larger point is missed though. If all good black men (and good white men for that matter too) showed this level of caring in our culture, then our entire culture would be changed and less violent. This discipline only teaches the kid to rebel because it is rare to be shamed for your actions in America. I remember a mother who had her kid hold a sign on the street about him being a failure in school because he actually failed that grade. Same argument--psychological abuse, teaches them to rebel, better ways to handle it, etc.
Do you honestly think the Uncle hasn't tried talking to the kid? Sitting down and chatting? I personally have talked with thugs in a mentoring kind of way, never above them and never condescending...but they don't respect that because American culture vilifies it. Even the liberal culture takes it for weakness as they scream for heads in passive-aggressive manner.
You think like a rational person, that I think is the biggest problem. Thugs don't.

Oop's ya, Uncle then - Obviously the guardian though. Or someone who cares about him. I don't think it much matters. That uncle is putting a firm stand down on Gang Banging.
Gangs are some touch crap to get involved in, I don't think the "Uncle" is is being harder on him than gang members would - most likely, he may be saving the kids life.

That's a big kid who still respects his father. I think he's gonna be alright.
Gotta get through to them somehow that gangs are not cool.

Nephew? Let me google that for you...
Learning that you gain respect by using violence. That sounds like a great lesson. Sure to keep him out of trouble.

I think the reasons he's doing what he's doing are perfectly valid, he's right to try to turn the kid away from gangs and gang culture. I think the way he's doing it is wrong. He's giving the kid something to rebel against.
If he really respected his uncle, his uncle wouldn't have to beat him like that. That's not respect you're seeing - it's about as far from respect as you can get. It's fear.

U.S. Soldier Survives Taliban Gunfire During Firefight

Gunter says...

He was running point, drawing fire (successfully)away from his squad with his LT. I'm surprised he doesn't have a wheelbarrow to carry those huge balls. His squad was pinned by machine gun fire. You can hear it, he's not getting shot at by the machine gun, from the sound of it he's taking fire from small arms most likely AK-47's and what not. As for poor training? I think he showed some pretty damn good discipline for staying calm as he draws fire upon himself, with rounds landing inches from him pretty regularly.

The Koch Brothers venture into the movie business. (Cinema Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Don't buy into the propaganda, Choggie, the Koch's could care less about education, they just want to make a buck.

The charter school thing has been tried and they perform worse than regular public schools. The reason that many private schools do better than public schools is that they are highly funded and can blacklist students that don't do well in school, students that have mental or physical disabilities, students that have discipline problems and students that don't speak English. Public schools are inclusive by definition. If education were privatized, the exclusivity that makes private schools succeed would be lost.

Turning education over to corporations would mean subsidized high level education for rich people, and McSchools for everyone else.

At what point does hitting your child with a frying pan go from child abuse to funny anecdote? After 22.3 years?

I'm guessing you don't have kids in a dangerous, ghetto neighborhood. That frying pan to the head is infinitely more valuable to a kid in that situation than ignoring it and burying him with a bullet in his head.

That's not my point. Regardless of whether or not she was right to do this (and there are other ways to get a point across), it strikes me - no pun intended - that we now laugh at what was a really horrible situation that they were in. As it was MCD who originally told the story, evidently he was OK with it being told and no doubt grew to understand why it happened but it's still odd that a funny anecdote can be made out of a child being beaten up by a gang twice and hit by his own mother.
If someone was caught doing today what his mother did then, they'd be charged with child abuse and I very much doubt the reasons given would get them off the hook. I didn't mean to say she was necessarily wrong to do this (although I did rather imply this), just that this wouldn't be acceptable today - were we wrong then, or are we wrong now?

I think your last paragraph is what makes laughing at the shit we used to get from our parents back in the good old days so funny. Anyone over the age of 30 can relate to getting a serious butt whooping. I don't think it is wrong at all, personally, now or then. All parents have their own way of discipline and their own breaking point. I would never hit one of my kids with a frying pan, but then again I have never been confronted with one of them joining a gang either.
