Man, they have a horrible dinner table.

I saw this when it was originally posted and I watched it again now as a refresher.

It's pretty scary how people have known that this system is so amazingly bad and was bound to collapse for so long and yet nothing has ever changed (judging by the massive debt taken to pay off the collapse, I guess it's not changing anytime soon).

Makes you wonder what power government really has? Every time someone thinks about making change in power, they just say some candid quote and hope someone in the future is inspired? For all the very informed people quoted, it seems no one has made any significant change. (I didn't really research these people's accomplishments but it seems evident by the state of the world today).

That's what scares me most, it will take the power of the people and people are so very very slow at producing change. The one thing that really hits home for me is the quote mentioning how incapable the average person is of understanding exponential growth. I've encountered this a lot and when I say things like "but it's exponential growth!" and I get blank stares as if the word exponential didn't register.

I actually remember trying to make people watch these videos before and I could convince very few to sit through the 48mins, I remember being afraid even and telling the dinner table, "the economy is going to BURST! THE DEBT MONSTER IS COMING! NOOOOOOOOOOO!"...probably should of phrased it better.

Are you arguing with this boy's opinions, or as you assumed, the opinions of others that propose equal rights for all citizens, including those not belonging to a Religious belief or doctrine? Or arguing that the fact he has these opinions or any opinion for that matter, is somehow misguided because he is ten?

Being apprehensive about dinner table values is one thing, especially when they are backed up with generalities. However, Gay rights are modern day civil rights. To deny them isn't a responsible, respectful protection of those "morally opposed to homosexuality," but instead a willful denial to respect the rights of others protected by the Constitution. Religion does not have a stranglehold on the meaning of Marriage, and the government should recognize a meaning that applies to all citizens, not just those part of an exclusive ideology. Your attacks on the validity of using the PoA as a place to express discontent are albeit right because, as you already said, the arguments for liberty and justice can be used just as easily by any opposition. But fuck semantics, those critiques don't change the validity of the boys opposition.

The hardest part of reading your posts isn't that you say things that are wrong, but snide. To have a lot of adult friends, "let alone gay ones," isn't nearly as disconcerting a thought as your clear assumption that having "gay ones" is somehow dangerous. You have an opinion just like this kid, and it seeps through. Except this kid expresses himself genuinely and makes his arguments unashamed, while you use formulated 'unbiased' criticisms to muddle the issue and confuse it with an argument about whether the chosen platform is philosophically sound.

Criticizing this kid for his refusal to stand and say the PoA as a show of his support for gay rights is comparable to criticizing Rosa Parks for boycotting public transportation, or civil rights leaders organizing sit in's in public courtrooms and offices because of the unequal rights African American's were subjected to. Don't confuse your opinions with unbiased criticisms about the nature of how someone expresses themselves.

Well it depends on your definition of worse. To be honest I think actual pranks and the such are far LESS worse than things like this. My older siblings during one little stint lead me to be impaled through the top of a pointy ornament that went right through the side of my body, later finding out it barely missed vital organs, we slapped two band-aids on each side and that was it until my parents got home and went hysteric over my bloody bedsheets. This now is nothing but a funny and loved story to tell around the dinner table. Don't even get me started on the time they put dirt over my clothes and face, getting me to beg for money so we could buy candy, only to be seconds away from being taken away/kidnapped by some man who said he was going to help me, also now just funny.

But would you really ever laugh about the time your older brother that you clearly respected, completely disregarded your trust? I don't know, maybe I'm overstating it but to me there's normal sibling behaviour we all go through, then there's just being a dick.

Fascinating indeed. I really think Rachel has it wrong about Carrie Prejean though. There is no way that the would-be Miss USA ever has a chance of holding office IMO. But...Well we did get pretty damned close to electing a moron beauty pageant winner in 2008.

It's frightening to watch people so openly and publicly celebrate intolerance. The people I really feel for are the kids in situations like this. I wonder what dinner table discussions are like at the home of the person who wrote "Why Should God Bless America?" are like for example.
