Massive GT4 European Series crash at Red Bull Ring

newtboy says...

First, about the leaving room part. In most car racing, you don't have to 'leave room', as long as you don't touch. Cutting off another driver's line is part of racing, you don't just LET other cars pass you, normally. Turning into a car's rear axle, that's NEVER OK in racing (except demolition racing).

Secondly, and more to the point, there WAS room. Not much, but definitely enough. If you look really close, at 21-22 seconds is when the contact happens, and the yellow car is at least 1 foot away from the white line, and no where near the 'run out' (red and white striped 'curb') for the corner. He intentionally turns into the rear of the white car, hitting it instead of just keeping it straight and coming in behind. I don't think he even would have used the run out had he just kept it straight, and certainly wouldn't have been off the track. His other option would be to let off the gas, then move right once the car in front is clear, but then he'd be in second. I think he expected the white car to crash, but not take him with it. He certainly should have known what would happen when he turned into the other car at that speed coming out of a turn, and that it would be terrible.

The car behind has the greater duty to avoid an accident on the track. At least, that's how it was when I did off road racing.

Side note...at :46, I'm pretty sure some poo came out of the guy with the blue flag.

I'd actually call that the other way. It was the driver of the inside car's responsibility to leave room for the car on the outside. Really, it's probably what you'd call a 'racing incident' and nobody's fault.

Today on C.G.W.-Cop Goes Into GTA Mode And Runs Down Suspect

newtboy says...

What you have done is excuse each and every instance where a cop blatantly goes overboard and hurts or kills a citizen, and supported the lack of prosecution, and said that how they are treated is proper, not being prosecuted, or being allowed to kill with impunity. You never strung the exact words together, only the sentiment.

No, what you do is say "if" some ridiculous thing that isn't true "then they are justified." That's your MO, and how you excuse the inexcusable every time.

The cop in front had the same amount of time to decide and the best view of anyone, and decided backing off was clearly proper...he can be heard instructing the other cop to do just that...but demolition man decided he knew better from behind....so....

Hmmm...why don't you go down to the local crack house alone and unarmed and tell them how to act? The local crack heads have more patience, sense, restraint, and will listen better.

My point is cops no longer 'put their lives on the line to protect innocent people', they put innocent people's lines on the line to protect themselves these days, and that's the problem. 10 people killed by cops for every cop killed by citizens says it all.

Cops should be able to kill with impunity? That's a pretty ridiculous statement, which I never said, in fact if I did, please quote me here.

Also, I never said what this cop did was right. But you have this general tendency to weave fanciful flights of hyperbole and ascribe them to me.

I'm only bringing up what I think are some other considerations. Of course, the cop had just a minute to decide, you have...how much time?

Have you ever gone to your local police department and read the daily log? Why don't you go down there and talk to some of these monsters, maybe you can talk some sense into them.

Also, I conceded many moons ago that there are many jobs more dangerous than being a cop. Construction is one job that is. My point was that cops put their lives on the line to protect innocent people, which makes their sacrifice a little more selfless.

i don't expect you to look up to cops, especially since you only observe from the sidelines...where it is nice and safe.

Surprise! I'm pregnant!

newtboy says...

You forgot vasectomies. They are near 100% effective...but only if you 1)wait after the surgery, because there's still sperm in the system for a while, and 2) go back to the doctor to get tested to be SURE your vas deferens didn't heal together, which happens in a few percent of cases. Once you're sure it worked though, you're safe for life (from pregnancy).

I'm not sure the car analogy works....driving isn't intended to cause 'accidents' like sex is....unless you're a demolition derby driver, then OK, I'm with you.

So you dislike the term accident?

I mean, if I have a car accident, would you say you love that term too? We know how car accidents happen, after all.

Or maybe it means 'unplanned'. I didn't plan on hitting that car, I didn't intend for my gamete to meet hers and successfully fuse and implant. I know that crashing, and pregnancy, are risks when I drive/fuck but that doesn't mean I intended for the risks to manifest at this particular moment in life.

And birth control failures are not extreme. They happen with alarming regularity (though they almost never result in pregnancies, much like actual sex). However - a woman who relies solely on male condoms for birth control has a 2% chance of getting pregnant that year (assuming average sex life). Hardly extreme stuff. 2 in every 100 sexually active women, fertile women who rely on condoms alone will get pregnant every year. It's between 1 in a 1000 to 1 in 100 for the contraceptive pill. Given how many people are having sex - this is not a rare thing.

Bernie Sanders tears into Walmart for corporate welfare

<< Well thank (G)god and quantum theory and the high-priestesses of non-linearity (Hail Eris) for assisting the few brave and hapless souls in the quest watcher-man, I'd imagined in the most heated of moments to be dealing with creatures that looked like humans who were in fact, mindless automaton designed to make my experience on Earth a living hell of sorts...That said, if everyone shopped at Walmart the few times a year I go in there and spend less than $20 bucks atta time, every one of their locations would be a black hole of unused square footage slated for demolition and re-acquisition. They'd make for some great multi-lane bowling alleys, skating rinks, or homeless shelters-

It was a controlled demolition set off by the firefighters who are planning to force us all to pay fire insurance again and are using this bridge to send their message.

For some not-so-strange reason, this looks intentional-How else (notwithstanding the creosote-soaked wood used for railroad timber) would the entire length of the thing burn so uniformly and so completely?

*edit- Ok, brush-fire. Now I see it-Damn. Ten million and change to rebuild it, construction to begin post-haste as this is a line used frequently for Ag near there.

I doubt it would generate that much power for all the demolition equipment, but I imagine enough for all the lights and possibly ac/fans.

They said that clearing the debris also generates energy for the other equipment, I'm wondering if the energy generated is enough to sustain the equipment without hooking them up to an outside power source?
