TRACTOR PULLS: It's Not What You Think - Smarter Every Day

newtboy says...

I’ve been to demolition derbies and monster truck shows in the 80’s where tractor pulls were part of the show, but not a pure tractor pull competition.
Yes, I had fun. It was back in the original Bigfoot days when monster trucks just drove over a few cars and everyone was amazed.

I still really want to go to the Mile of Mud in Florida and see swamp buggy racing in person before I die….but that means going to Florida in the summer.

This made me want to go hang out with southerners.

Has anyone been to a tractor pull, and is it fun?

FPV drone pilot is invited to film a power plant demolition

Stormsinger says...

Not in my opinion. I'd much rather see the actual demolition than watch a camera's point of view spin wildly while missing most of the action.

Maybe not a well framed video, but a thousand times more entertaining than just another demolition video. I thought it was awesome to watch as far as demo videos go.

He may be cool but he aint no film director. There is a learning curve to filming weddings and demolitions. Behind and away from the action. Everyone seemed happy enough though. If you want respect dress better or count on having to earn it. I hope his business card says "Fucking Famous Drone Racer".

You don't know what he was hired for!
When you "assume" things like that you make ass out of yourself.
If this demolition company hired him to have a useful structural analysts video then they are fucking idiots for not properly doing research in who they are hiring and for not giving him proper permission to fly more than 1 aircraft! He's a fucking famous drone racer and it's all over his CV! Why the fuck would they hire him to take steadyshot video?! What kind of analysis can you make from a single vantage point?! Competent demolition companies use dozens if not hundreds of camera setup in critical locations, not a single done.

He was hired to create a cool marketing shot for the company and that's what he did!

I concur. This is more a fail than a success. The commission, I assume, is not to have something "cool" to see -- like watching aerial parkour -- but to have footage at each stages of detonations for the engineers to analyze if every calculations/explosive hookups went off as planned.

With that as parameters, there's almost nothing to see here. If the drone is equipped with a wide-angle lens and/or multi-cam setup (filming both the building and the smokestack at the same time) than maybe the video would be useful. What I see here is crap, narrated by clowns.

@mxxcon: The drone controllers are the assholes IMO. Shouldn't be paid, or paid 10-20% of the commission, max!

The Day Liberty Died

newtboy says...

Israel is not, and never has been our ally.
Our support of their racist, genocidal regime is baffling in the extreme.

Nobody asked why? I think it's likely because they didn't want anyone recording their other war crimes. Blaming someone else with hopes of bringing us into their war on their side was probably a secondary motive.

And two days ago Israel restarted it's illegal expansion by once again breaking international law and the Geneva convention by renewing efforts to forcefully 'evict' the native Bedouin living in Khan al-Ahmar since before Israel existed and leveling the township.
This sparks the beginning of another genocidal round of expansion and military bluster from Israel, another one we will undoubtedly turn a blind eye to, or perhaps we'll blame the displaced natives like we do the Palestinians.
The UN has previously warned that international humanitarian law requires an occupying power to protect the population of the territory that it occupies, ensure its welfare and wellbeing, as well as the respect for its human rights. Any destruction of property by the occupying power is prohibited, except when rendered absolutely necessary by military operations, the UN says. The extensive demolition of property is a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and may amount to a war crime, it adds.
