Hellboy - Official Trailer David Harbour, Milla Jovovich

ChaosEngine says...

“He also is unaware of the powers of his right hand and begins to learn the truth about it over the course of the film, testing his already-strained relationship with his adopted dad Trevor Bruttenholm”

Fair enough, it’s not an origin story, but that doesn’t sound a million miles away from the plot of the first movie.

That said, I loved both of those movies and this (despite the lack of Del Toro) looks great too.

PACIFIC RIM UPRISING - Exclusive IMAX Trailer

Mordhaus says...

Really don't know why they chose to go this route with the IP. Except for the the fact that it was bought out and they shunted Del Toro to being only the Producer, while putting into place an entirely new script and director.

I will probably wait for this one to hit the discount theatre or Redbox.

Pacific Rim Uprising - Official Trailer

ChaosEngine says...

What makes you say it's a reboot? Looks like it's a sequel to me (main character is even Idris Elba's characters son).

That said, I see where you're coming from. I loved Pacific Rim; I didn't even know they were making a sequel and then I saw this and I was stoked... until I watched it.

And meh... doesn't do it for me. Shame they could get Del Toro back, and the less said about the shitty soundtrack for the trailer the better.

Still gonna watch it though, which is more than I can say about Justice League.

Now I have to go watch the Thor Ragnarok trailer again to cheer myself up.

I was hoping for a true sequel, but it looks like they are going for a bit of a reboot. Oh well, still gonna watch it.

that was awesome.
i hope del toro gets to make "mountains of madness",because i love the imagery he used in hellboy, which was VERY lovecraftian.

i stumbled upon lovecraft from my dad,and by accident.
my dad had a ton of the those sci-fi,horror pulp magazines from the 40's and 50's in the basement.

i think i was around 9 or 10 and my dad had given me the job of clearing out the basement, because he was going to remodel it..and i remember coming across this old,and dusty cardboard box filled with those books.

i spent the entire afternoon reading..and reading..and reading.
and it was lovecraft that i fell in love with, although at my young age he was not an easy read.you have to absorb lovecraft rather than actually read him.

this was the weekend i also discovered isaac asimov, ray bradbury, fred saberhagen and jack l chalker.

so i fell in love with lovecraft before stephen king.

and then my big sister tried to introduce me to dean r koontz.
and well..fuck dean r koontz, fucking hack and plagiarist.

seriously..fuck dean r koontz.

Watchmen - Adapting The Unadaptable

Mordhaus says...

I disagree that it cannot be adapted to film. It could be done with a director that can function in a storytelling environment, which Snyder simply cannot do. The problem with Snyder was covered very well here recently, *related=http://videosift.com/video/Nerdwriter-Fundamenal-Flaw-Zack-Snyder-Batman-v-Superman
He was exactly the wrong director to have film this. I would have went with Del Toro or Whedon, but even they have their flaws.

Now, if the question is, can an adaptation be done that Alan Moore will feel 'suits' his vision? Probably not. He is an artist, in very good ways, but also in some very bad ones. He has a specific idea of how his creation must flow, which means he will never be satisfied with a medium outside of the graphic novel or comic.

Personally, I think one of the few un-adaptable works would be Gaiman's Sandman, but that's just my opinion.

The Simpsons - YOU'RE NEXT

shang says...

The director of the movie "You're Next" applauded this 'homage'.

So wonderful

The Simpsons’ couch gag has become a great place for innovative filmmakers and artists to show off their take on the iconic nuclear family and the many denizens of Springfield. From the creators of Rick And Morty, to Don Hertzfeldt, Guillermo Del Toro, John K., and many others, all have left their individual stamp on the opening of the classic show and its opening segment. Now another artist has thrown his hat in the ring, albeit unofficially, with a gruesome blending of The Simpsons with Adam Wingard’s film You’re Next.

Lee Hardcastle is an experienced stop-motion animator that has applied his craft to a segment in The ABCs Of Death, a mash-up of Frozen and The Thing, and even a music video for the group Gunship. Now Hardcastle has brought that same off-kilter horror sensibility to his proposed couch gag for Springfield’s first family with a possibly NSFW-ish (due to clay violence and gore) and fairly disturbing short. Hardcastle’s couch gag opens serenely enough before devolving into a home invasion pastiche just like You’re Next—much to the appreciation and applause of Adam Wingard himself. It’s unclear although unlikely that Fox will actually use this couch gag on screen, but maybe it will help boost Hardcastle’s chances for crafting a Treehouse Of Horror intro/segment.

His channel is awesome, his mashup of Disney's Frozen with John Carpenter's The Thing, absolute masterpiece.

Selfie from hell

My Halloween movie recommendations based upon this video:

V/H/S, The Last Broadcast, The Blair Witch Project (not the sequel dear GOD), It Follows (soon to have a sequel "Follow It"), The Babadook, and anything spawned from Koji Suzuki's Ring Trilogy -- I bet you didn't know there were THAT many Ring movies, did you? 3 American films (one is a short film), 7 Japanese films, 1 Korean film, 2 Japanese television series, and 1 more American film on the way, executive produced by Guillermo del Toro.

Happy Hallo-fuckin-ween!
