Being on a Cruise Ship During Bomb Cyclone

Mordhaus says...

The first cruise I went on, back in 2002, they chased a hurricane around the Gulf rather than refund money. Some of it looked similar to this, but I think we had worse seas. Anyway, my wife and I both came down with the flu or a really bad cold around the same time, so it was miserable. They wouldn't let you out on the upper decks and recommended people stay in their rooms or inside.

Also, all the islands we were visiting had been at least brushed by some of the winds/seas of the storm, so the beaches were muddy and/or damage was all around. We never went on Royal Caribbean again.

Edit: Actually our seas were about similar to the ones at 3:24, so I guess it was comparable.

Colbert To Trump: 'Doing Nothing Is Cowardice'

bcglorf says...

Let's step back then from arguing against other people's claims.

The claim that tyranny is pretty universally based upon an unarmed civilian population provides at least some real world evidence that civilian armament and freedom have some correlation. Whether that warrants allowing citizen's access to weaponized anthrax and cruise missiles is another matter. Can you agree that a well armed population is incompatible with historical tyranny(Mao, Stalin, Saddam, Gadhafi, the Kim's)?

You're mistaken. I've heard exactly that suggested by multiple people....not that there's any actual push for disarmament.
No reasonable person suggests that, but people are often unreasonable about this topic.

Why I Left the Left

worm says...

Bahahahaha! Okay... Now you've shown your true ignorance to what is happening. Perhaps you have been partaking a bit took much koolaid from the altar of Rachel Maddow.

Conservatives EMBRACED by Republicans? It is more like true Conservatives are hated and suppressed by Republicans. Ted Cruise is a Conservative, and Republicans tend to hate on him more than they do on the Democratic Party.

I'm still waiting to see some violent Tea Party news. I went ahead and did a Google on it cause I don't remember ANY, and sure enough there is SO little that Google couldn't even fill a single page with hits. The ones that were there were minor at worst. Just because SJW news media spouts out rubbish to rile up the ignorant masses doesn't make the rubbish any more true.

Shall we check on violence and BLM or violence and OWS?

newtboy said:

So, you admit your group is at least shirking responsibility as much as you feel OWS and BLM are? That's quite a lot.
Eureka, California. I watched them be violent and attack anyone disagreeing. I'm 100% positive it wasn't the only place that happened.

So, you think you can completely separate republicans and their actions from "conservatives" who identify as republican, are embraced fully by republicans and courted by them, and vote them into power, but all democrats are incontrovertibly violent SJWs, even though dems don't accept them and never court them. As I said, shirking responsibility for your actions....it's the conservative way.

First, I've addressed the difference, republicans embrace the insane teabaggers, democrats rail against SJWs. Second, look at numbers. A few thousand ignorant students is far less than hundreds of thousands of outraged ignorant ball lickers.

The average, typical liberal is protesting an idiot in power selling us down the river to the highest bidder and eroding hard won civil rights. They are not typically students (no matter how much you wish they were because many of the student protests are easy to degrade and dismiss, but most protests/rallies aren't).

Professional paid protesters...another disproven bit of right wing propaganda. You watch WAY too much Alex Jones....why not bring up the pedophile ring Clinton heads, or the murders she personally committed, or the fish people she keeps in a hidden tank in her office, or the violence they planned for the inauguration?
Sad. Biggly sad.

Inside a crew cabin in Cargo Ship Swaying During Rough Seas

PlayhousePals says...

Ugg. I was on a rock and roll cruise when the engine room caught fire. We were adrift for about a day and a half before they got one engine to work [no stabilizers] so we could inch our way to the nearest [unscheduled] port for repairs. That's when I fell in love with Key West! Good Times

The Mummy (2017) - Official Trailer

Mordhaus jokingly says...

How is this a reboot when the 'hero' Tom Cruise is 6 years older than Brendan Fraser, 15 years after The Mummy Returns?

That would be like rebooting Risky Business with 48 year old Brendan Fraser as the lead.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) - Official Trailer

SDGundamX says...

Japanese people don't care that the actress is not Japanese. The original creators don't care that the actress is not Japanese. Does no one else see the terrible irony that the people complaining loudest about Scarlett Johansson being cast in this role are mostly privileged white people?

I'd be curious if these same people complained about Tom Cruise being the lead in Edge of Tomorrow or Justin Chatwin playing Goku in the 2009 Dragonball movie. And I'd be more curious to hear what Asian box office star should have been cast in these roles to attract the audiences these movies needed to recoup their production costs.

Sure, Mr. and Ms. educated liberal-progressive might go to see these movies even if they are cast with relatively unknown Asian actors but would that be enough to justify production of the movie in the first place?

This movie is an ADAPTATION. Adaptations are not supposed to be literal translations of the source material. What would be the point in that? I don't think a lot of people who watched the Lord of the Rings films, for instance, could have stomached being bombarded for minutes at a time with bad poetry by Tom Bombadil.

They made the right decision on this film. In this case, people who know nothing about anime are going to show up for this movie just to watch Johansson kick ass. And if they like it a lot they are going to be interested in learning more about the original source material, in which case they'll obtain a lot more Japanese cultural knowledge than they would if some "Asian-looking" person had been cast in the role in the first place.

Whether this movie will actually be any good or not... it's really impossible to tell from this trailer.

The Enforcer

ForgedReality says...

What are these people worried about? That traffic is hardly even bad at all. Everyone is cruising right along. That's relatively light traffic compared to where I live. I see no reason to need the shoulder, but I suppose it helps alleviate gridlock.

Before knowing that "lane" is legal to drive in, I was thinking they were all fucking douchebags because it's totally not legal here. But now it's just the driver of the silver car who is the piece of shit douchebag. I kind of wish there was such a law here, but then, where would cars pull over when they need to?

Woman almost hits biker by merging, gets caught by cops

newtboy says...

For those who consider the biker's actions excessively aggressive in some way, I offer the story of my father's actual excessively aggressive reaction to the same vehicular slight.
In the 70's, my dad drove a Lincoln Continental....not just a boat but a cruise ship and tank of a car. He also drank heavily and thought nothing of driving drunk...which likely explains (but does not excuse) his actions in this story.

Driving in Houston one night, at a merge a woman refused to let him in when it was his turn. This enraged him, so he followed her for miles until she stopped at a red light. He then crept up to her bumper and shoved her car into the middle of the busy intersection, stalling her car and leaving her panicked. Satisfied with his revenge, he just turned right and left. THAT is what I consider overly aggressive. I thought the biker here was incredibly restrained and handled the situation perfectly.
