"The Force Is STRONG With This One"!!!

Hitting a pedestrian on a crosswalk is generally frowned upon no matter how stupid the pedestrian is.

Let me grab my trusty traffic act, ahh..nope. Not here(Ontario). Here, a pedestrian is required to ensure that they are crossing safely, and with due care and consideration for others. And crossing into an intersection, even a marked intersection which where other traffic has the right of way automatically puts you into fault.

Why did the guy in India cross the road?

Australian Anti-Speeding Ad - Very Disturbing

Yeah, it's your right to jog out between parked cars in the middle of the block instead of using a crosswalk, a corner, or even a little common sense.

Lapses in judgement happen, doesn't mean people should be killed for it. People driving at 70kph in shopping areas like this are just as fucking stupid as people that don't look where they're going. In normal circumstances, the pedestrian'd get some good old fashion Aussie swearing for not looking, not be maimed or killed.

Speeding Car Barely Misses People at Pedestrian Crossins

Apparently you and I are watching two different videos.

The car that was braking was only doing so because there was a white van cutting it off, trying to move over because of the green van that was parked past the crosswalk, not for the people at the crosswalk.

Plus, your situation is irrelevant. The speeding car would easily have been visible, plain and simple. They just didn't pay attention. (oh, and it's not raining, for the record.)

How do you miss a car that's coming towards you on a straight street? Unless it was magically keeping pace with dash cam car until dash cam slowed down, it would easily have been visible from behind dash cam car.

Seriously, watch the video in fullscreen. They pair doesn't even stop, they walk up to the road, then onto the road, and then almost get hit. No moment of hesitation to make sure they'll make it across.

If this was taken from around a curve where the car was going too fast, then I'd agree, cars fault. Shouldn't have been taking the curve so fast. If it was at the top of a hill, I'd agree with you, shouldn't have been going so fast when it doesn't know what's at the top.

This, was on one big, long, stretch. Where the car would easily have been visible. And no, I'm not advocating speeding, I'm merely stating that if it was a situation where the line of sight of the speeding car was blocked, then I'd feel worse for the pedestrians.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, just because there's a crosswalk there, doesn't mean you just stroll out and hope for the best.

That car was speeding. Plain and simple.

Not only is it raining, not only are there crosswalk signs, but there two cars with brake lights on in front of the offending car. Hence the driver's culpability.

You also might wanna train your eagle-eyes on the car braking just as the pedestrians enter the crosswalk. Their attention was probably focused there.
~~~
Imagine you're strolling along having a pleasant conversation.
You enter a crosswalk were two cars are nearly stopped, and a third (dash cam) is decelerating in order for you to pass.
Then, 3/4th of the way to being safely across the street, some asshole driver over takes the slowing car and nearly runs over your heels.
Clearly, it's your bad.
Got any rape victims or holocaust survivors you wanna hold accountable while you're at it? o_D?
No, you're right. Every pedestrian on the road should just act like it's their god given right to just walk out into the middle of traffic. It's very apparent they were doing so anyway. It was a straight road, they could see the cars coming from ages away because our camera is traveling for 9 seconds before we can see the pedestrians (cars are easier to spot.) and we don't even get close to them until around the 14-15 second mark. Based on that alone, you should be able to see the "Speeding" car, and either wait, or move faster to get across.
@sillma
I don't see any stopped or parked cars (save the one on the other side, not blocking visibility), and infact the one the camera is in only slows down, never stops.
I will grant you that there are two blue signs at either side of the road that I missed before. They blend in, and i'm not used to looking for blue signs, I suppose.
However, the pedestrian does have the right of way here, too, but only if they're actually doing it right. we have signs here, look like this. The pedestrian stops and presses a button on the side of the road, the lights flash, cars have to stop. The whole process takes around 10 seconds.
There are crosswalk lines all over the place without any lights on them, but to cross the road there requires the pedestrian to use proper judgement when it comes to crossing the street, you wait, the car does not. Once the street is clear enough that you can make it across safely (Kids tend to walk, adults will generally jog across, meaning adults need less time) they do so.
Never, have I seen two people walk out into a busy street with cars coming at them and just mosey over to the other side. This is an example as to why.
In all honesty, I think this may be the pedestrians fault.
I've watched it a couple times and there's no lights or crosswalk sign or anything. It's just lines on the road.
So, if you're dumb enough to step out into the middle of traffic and hope for the best, this is what happens, but who knows. Maybe the rules are different in russia.
Dunno about the laws in Russia, but in Finland there's a law for cars to stop at a crosswalk if another car has stopped next to it, or even parked next to it, since you don't have any visibility if someone's crossing, and here the pedestrian ALWAYS has the right of way(discluding retards who aim for cars, but that's not the case here).
And there's clear and large signs of crosswalk on both sides of the road.
guy was clearly speeding. There were crosswalks on that road and a speed limit of no faster than 20 MPH (or 25 KPH) is my guess.
I don't think so.. country road, not built up, no housing etc... if that was england it would be a 60 mph road.
If that were England they'd be using kilometres like sane, rational people.
If that were england they'd be using miles, trust me mate
