Comcast Repairmen Unconcerned Of Wrecks They Are Causing

eric3579 says...

Reddit comment:
Directional driller/ Equipment operator with a Flagging certificate for over 10 years here! I have been installing fiber optic and power lines for the past decade on roads just like this. Let me say first off that Comcast broke multiple OSHA and DOT regulations here. When working within any easement that is under 10 feet from the road or working from the road a minimum of 2 signs facing each lane of traffic must be placed a minimum of 500 feet from the site of work. To be a proper Lane closure they needed a roadwork ahead sign at 700 feet followed by a men working sign at 500 feet then a series of 5 cones minimum at the back of the truck forming a wedge from the right of the work lane to the left corner of the truck. -Reddit

I know where i live even on residential streets i often see a flagmen when there is only one lane for two way traffic.

What Are You? - Kurzgesagt

Cells have no "purpose"?

I think that depends on how you define "purpose". I don't think humans (or other animals / organisms) have any particular intrinsic purpose. At least, nothing granted to us by a higher power or outside influence or whatever. We assign purpose to ourselves, and to other fuzzy-boundary collections of things. Things that are "alive" exist to use energy, move, reproduce, etc. Things that are "tools" exist to be a preferable means of accomplishing some task. Etc.

If any of those things have "purpose", certainly cells can have a "purpose" as well. Neurons exist to transfer bio-electric currents. Rod and cone cells in our eyes exist to react to light in general or particular wavelengths of light.

I don't think that we have any physical or intangible soul that serves as the core of our being. We have cells, organs, and organ systems that make up a "meat computer" that provides us with consciousness (a word that we invented, but which describes a fairly concrete idea), and I would argue that consciousness is the closest thing that we have to a "soul".

At some point, if we can create a machine that emulates / replaces the functionality of all those cells, organs, and organ systems that are responsible for consciousness, and copy a snapshot of the states of all of that in an organic being (like us) into a mechanical counterpart, then ... yeah. I think that machine would be the organic being that it was a copy of, in a far more meaningful way than Henrietta's cancer cells are "her".

I love Rod and Cones. The huge drum was rad(ical).

Actually, I think the 2014 show was entirely new stuff compared to the one that I saw first. It is hard for me to call which time was better -- I saw them first (with the twinkie bit) when I was like 17 or so, and then again in my 30's.

I was really entertained by the twinkie bit -- memorable enough that that was probably my overall favorite non-musical bit of either performance I saw. But overall I think the later show might have been even better. And like I said, I don't remember any rehashed material between the two, but the time span between them makes me not 100% sure about that.

The teleprompter text warmup stuff -- sarcasm and jokey stuff -- was really good in both shows also. With regards to songs, Rods and Cones is probably my single favorite of theirs. The giant drum that is below human hearing range but physically compresses your chest was featured in that early show, from the "Audio" album era. That wasn't used in the newer show, and it added something to the live show even though you can't actually "hear" it so much as "feel" it. But obviously home stereos can't reproduce that, and there are a lot of good songs from the newer albums / shows also.

Yep, they still do that sk(it/etch) today AFAIK. Was the updated version better to you than the original version? For some reason, I still like the original designs more. {snip}

Yep, they still do that sk(it/etch) today AFAIK. Was the updated version better to you than the original version? For some reason, I still like the original designs more. My favorite BMG tunes:

Above
Game of Thrones Cover
Last Train to Trancentral
Opening Mandelbrot
Rods and Cones
Terminator 3 Theme

And yes, they're back in Luxor. They keep moving around in Sin City. Haha.

Did you ever do that meet and greet to get pictures with them? I did two blue men.

I do want to see them again, but I will wait until they change a lot.

BTW, https://www.facebook.com/BlueManGroupFans is a good frequent updated BMG fan site.

I watched in Luxor also back pretty close to the same year -- I think a bit earlier, maybe 1998 or so? They had a great bit where they grabbed an audience volunteer and all put on "bib" like things with a spigot sticking out of them, then ate twinkies. As they ate, yellow/orange goo extruded out of the spigots -- really freaked out the audience volunteer!

Then I saw them again in I think 2014. Again in Vegas, but they had changed venues to the Monte Carlo. From a quick web search it looks like they are maybe back at the Luxor now, though.

Musically, it is extremely impressive to me how they can produce really great stuff that is all centered around their custom-built PVC and other percussion instruments. You'd think that a very percussion-heavy music act with blue body paint and "act weird" shtick might get stale, but I really loved both live shows I went to as well as their albums and DVDs like the MegaStar show.

Weird but great!

World's Dumbest Cop

Mordhaus says...

Here is the thing, and it's the reason why I have started to switch my opinion of our law enforcement. The number of stories and videos that show good cops has become dramatically outnumbered by the ones showing despicable human beings wearing a uniform.

Now what am I supposed to think as a rational person when I post a video showing a good cop, not wanting to shoot a murder suspect that might be armed, and immediately after that I get inundated with multiple videos showing officers literally murdering, beating, soliciting, and running over people?

It's equivalent to me coming to your house every day and beating the shit out of you for months, but one time I buy you an ice cream cone instead and tell you to have a great day. Now can you tell me that you are the type of person that is going to say, "Wow, he got me an ice cream and didn't hurt me today!" or are you a thinking creature that is going to say, "Fuck you and your ice cream, you sociopath!"?

It's just not good enough anymore to be that one good cop or even multiple good cops unless you are willing to take a stand and out the bad ones to be criminals. The thin blue line can no longer be held if we are to gain a modicum of trust back towards our law enforcement. No more buddy system, you fuck up and you do time. Until then, I can't trust a cop anymore and I have actual family that does police work.
