King Tut - SNL

StukaFox says...

Listen -- do you know how much high-grade Peruvian flake we were hoovering back in the late 70's? Steve Martin was the perfect comedian for coke-sniffers: wild and energetic, creative on script and off the cuff. We liked our comedians Wild and Crazy and our afternoon bumps in little McDonald's coffee-stirrer spoons.

Those were the days, my friend, those were the days.

Eh, this is just not that funny. It's mildly amusing at best, and in that sense, it is classic SNL.

Thank you for verifying my opinion that he's a douchbag and moron.

I prefer comedians that are funny.

Shock humor is for comedians that can't be funny so they go for uncomfortable laughter....and he's not even that good at it. A joke with a punch line that isn't funny isn't a joke, it's just douchbaggery.
A 12 minute joke with 3 laughs is a failure, and he can rarely get 3.
Norm is NOT one of the comedy greats. His jokes are Crap and not memorable. His payoffs have never been worth it to me, and his extended rambling setups are pure torture....intentional torture.

COMEDIANS VS FEMINISM

ChaosEngine says...

"sensitivity is more important than truth,
feelings are more important than facts"

Bill, the fact that you think those are "feminine" values illustrates exactly why feminism is still important.

Bill Burr continues to be an unfunnny throwback to the 80s and frankly, I wish he'd just fuck off.

Louis CK, OTOH, is still a comedic genius.

But here's the thing people. Comedians are great at comedy, but they're comedians, not philosophers or sociologists.

Comedy just doesn't really work with nuanced issues. There are tonnes of jokes about Trump because he's such an obvious combination of dickhead and idiot; there really isn't anything complex about him.

But you don't see much comedy about free trade vs. anti-globalisation because it's a fucking complicated issue that has pros and cons on both sides. Comedy is about hyperbole and exaggeration.

It's over MY head [as are so many things these daze]. Thanks for your dogged determination with this issue. John is too good to miss ... my favorite political comedian [there are so many to choose from] currently

I think I figured it out. The error message doesn't say "region blocked" or "not available in your country" it just says "this video is not available." That's what threw me off.

We've always got room to improve though because as a fellow Canadian I don't feel my country men are all similarly free.

Greg Elliott disagreed with a feminist blogger over twitter and was hit a three year criminal trial over criminal harassment, including a bail condition throughout the trial banning him from internet access. His job relied on that internet access so even though he was cleared of all charges...

He is one of Norways best comedians, actually, but almost all of his material is in Norwegian, however, there is one sketch which is at least partially english

Extremely interesting, and as @eric3579 pointed out, the guy has a really fun sense of humor as well. I loved how by the end, he got a big laugh out of the watermarked stock image without even having to comment on it.

A Conversation with Michael Eric Dyson

RedSky says...

I tend to view the stigmatisation of a word to this degree as counter-productive since it shifts the focus away from the real problem - i.e. chronic inequality of income between black and white communities through poor public services that feeds a lack of opportunity for income mobility. Time spent discussing the degree to which users of the word should be shunned, whether it's said by a comedian, other black people, actual racists, is time not being spent discussing those material issues.

The base case of racism, i.e. the perpetuation of the view that black people are somehow genetically inferior or deserve to be subjugated in rights still certainly exists. What I suspect is more prevalent nowadays is discrimination founded in economic inequalities - the view that because black people are more likely to be poor, making the reflexive assumption they are more likely to resort to crime, and therefore are more dangerous and should be implicitly subject to harsher penalties. Which comes back to my main point, the best way to fix that is to actually narrow those economic inequalities.

Careful, I hear more truth out of the mouths of liberal comedy writers than our own President on any given day. You know there's something wrong when reality is more twisted than anything the comedians could ever dream up.

Yea your right - nothing smarter than a liberal comedy writer pretending to be a politician.
That against a person of critical thought who knows his shit.

Yea your tight.

corporate media tool gets taken to school about syria

enoch says...

@newtboy
that's what you took away from this?
jimmy dore is akin to glenn beck and alex jones?

ok,not gonna judge.

i thought the real take away,in my opinion, was a journalist was taken to task for being lazy and uncritically accepting the current corporate media narrative, and gets a thrashing from an independent journalist from canada.a polite and soft spoken thrashing, but a thrashing just the same.

eve bartlett has been doing some amazing work in regards to syria, and exposing the lies and manipulations of corporate media.

jimmy dore is a comedian,i am just a loser nobody who comments on the internet, but we all come to our own conclusions.

and i no longer give corporate media any authority, because of their utter and complete failure to inform.

i question any and everything that they attempt to spin as "truth".
