Why you no take more pictures, Justin! Your close up shots are TERRIBLE. Did you pee yourself? Why you no hold pee?
Shame.

I believe the best way to close this would have been "You bring dishona to your famiry"

I know but my Korean friend Chris says "Shame" and shakes his head solemnly, so I'm both mocking and paying tribute to him.

The Last Stand - Trailer - Arnie is back!!!

Retroboy says...

Gotta go with Deathcow. Sorry, but there's all sorts of senior citizen in this.

And before you downvote this comment, please pause at *any* Arnie facial close-up. The movie might be superb when it's released, but this trailer's scenes really needed some work before they hit the internet.

I'm still cringing from viewing the last Indiana Jones film.

Shameless product placement on TV

Chuck and the Subway stuff was because Subway basically kept that show on the air through at least one and maybe two cancellations.

Oh, I know that Subway saved Chuck, and for characters to eat the product is fine... but when they stop to list the ingredients, or have whole scenes set in a subway restaurant... it really lessons the show and makes you think it might have been better letting it die.
The Google Wallet product placement in Fringe was completely out of place, didn't fit in with the story, made you think there'd be some plot point to do with using that form of payment... but no, just a big old close up of a guy paying using Google Wallet and then a couple of characters talking about it later, trying to suggest 'it's how people pay for things now'... urgh, so painful

Yeah the stuff in Fringe really bugs me, especially since it's a good show and they keep threatening to cancel the good shows. So the story line is all screwed up and confusing because they keep having to come back from these "the end of series........maybe" shows.

Chuck......I knew the story behind it..so them giving Subway time didn't bug me as much. It was a goofy show.

Community did a much better job of putting Subway in the show and making it funny with the "Subway" character.

Drone Pilots Rewarded With Bravery Medals -- TYT

Yogi says...

I have no doubt that killing people like this and watching their glowing white (infrared cam) body parts get spread over a 400 sq ft area will mess (some of) these pilots up for life!! Just watching the videos alone is enough to make me freaked out.

I was thinking about this the other day. You've of course heard stories of the complete separation from their victims when you talk about bombadiers. I was wondering if stationing Drone pilots thousands of miles from their targets does the same thing. Does it become a video game, just sprites on a screen that don't hold any meaning. It's something to think about but I'm not so sure because as our technology has advanced to keep the "pilots" away from the entire battlefield, the optics has advanced to bring the close up images of the battlefield right to them. It must be an odd feeling, I can't imagine.

Also the people who flew those planes into the World Trade Center are braver than these Drone Pilots. So what the fuck does that say about bravery?

Handfeeding a Dragonfly

artician says...

Yeah, very clear, close-up focus.

I'm curious to know the aftermath of this. I didn't think insects could really heal broken limbs, so did she have to feed it until it finally gave up and died? Or is it possible to nurse a dragonfly back to health?

How Do Pain Relievers Work

bamdrew says...

It is generally understood that acetaminophen/paracetemol binds and reduces oxidized, 'highly active' COX-2 enzymes... this chills out the COX-2 activity until it is oxidized again and cranks back up. So imagine in this animation acetaminophen kind-of causing that active COX binding site to close up a little for a while, and preventing it from working in that way.

Acetaminophen also doesn't appear to have a lot of anti-inflammatory action near the actual site of inflammation, but rather more globally throughout the body; folks hypothesize a lot about the reason for this, but I like the simple answer that acetaminophen itself can't reduce oxidized COX enzymes in an injured area surrounded by high levels of oxidative species.

(nerd fist-bump)

But what about paracetamol? That's different, because you can take the allowed dosage of that and the allowed dosage of ibuprofen at the same time without interaction... but how does it work?

Paracetemol is the major painkiller here in Thailand, which annoys me because I believe that I am essentially immune to it. I took paracetemol (tylenol) often when I was in my pre and early teens for migraines. At some point, I found that it just wouldn't do anything for me anymore. Ibuprofen and Aspirin both work great, so I always use those when I have a choice -- but the default is always Paracetemol here.

Man Calls JPMorgan Chase CEO A Crook To His Face

Ryjkyj says...

Yea that's a bad call, but they have $2.26 Trillion in assets, $90 Billion in revenue, and $19 Billion in net income. I think they can absorb the loss.

But if they don't get that $30 overdraft fee, they'll have to close up shop and head out Californy-way...

Are you at all sympathetic to the view that there is too much concentration of capital in the financial sector, and not enough in the real economy? I think the compensation has gotten way out of whack in relation to the services they perform. I also think the securitization of debt was a horrible idea. What was wrong with glass steagall you know? What I'd like to see is a return to bankers loaning out deposits, and investors seeking out entrepreneurs. Instead, we have investors seeking to leverage systemic risk knowing full well they have a lifeline because the government can't go ahead and flush our life savings down the toilet now can it?

>> ^kevingrr:

What we are going to see shortly is traditional banks close up shop in low to low-mid income areas.
The banks offered "Free Checking" with the knowledge that people would overdraft and they would make fees on those overdrafts. There is no such thing as a free lunch or free banking. This was always part of every banks business plan. Caveat Emptor.
Those fees are now being restricted by Dodd-Frank. Therefore the banks can no longer turn a profit in many low/mid income neighborhoods. Banks are in business to make a profit and when they cannot make a profit they will close or downsize.
The solution is fairly simple. Banks will close and currency exchanges and payday loan shops will open. I don't think these businesses are preferable to banks. It an unintended consequence of the bill. It will hurt people it was meant to help.
I have free checking. I maintain a four to five figure balance and I have never been charged. I don't have everything I want, but I have more "things" in my life than I will ever need.
Chase lost $2 Billion dollars? Yea that's a bad call, but they have $2.26 Trillion in assets, $90 Billion in revenue, and $19 Billion in net income. I think they can absorb the loss.
