Robot Chicken the Force Unleashed Ad

Yes...the PS3 interface is horrid. I have 50 giggle-bytes (sounds cuter) of music on my laptop...are you saying I have to search through all the folders of music and porn...er...videos? I found a way around this though...I have winamp remote and I use the PS3 browser to log into orbcast which is a front end for winamp remote. That let's me search, so it's a little better. What's a VCN? I mostly want a media server actually connected to my television so that I can easily run programs straight from the source. I like the front end of those moxy boxee foxy roxy soxy and lixy programs. I think some of those I made up though.

Also, the Hulu shows that are on PlayON are the same as the ones on Hulu plus...which exclude a lot of good shows you can watch on the good ol' fashioned internet. They figured since most PS3's are hooked to TV and most computers are hooked up to smaller monitors, people will keep their cable bills if they keep some of the shows via internet only. The PS3 browser, if you haven't notice, won't play ANY Hulu...and that's no accident.

A jailbreak would allow me to potentially have an open source PS3 (just as god intended it). They came up with some bullshit that open source would be a security threat to the playstation network...when really it's all copyright bullshit that companies like Hulu and those clients of Hulu have agreed upon. If I want to run yellow dog linux on my PS3, why shouldn't I be able to do that? Then I wouldn't need to struggle through the PS3 interface. Also, I'd like to load some emulators for SNES onto my playstation...god forbid Nintendo gives rights to sell Super Mario Bros Allstars to Sony.

Not a fan of Playon, huh? Well, it's probably the PS3's DLNA interface that bothers you the most. Question, how are you using it if you don't have a media server? My configuration is an old PC I was going to get rid of connected to my wireless router via ethernet cable. I run PS3 Media Server and Playon (I also run a VCN so I can access it without having to plug in a keyboard or mouse.).

I don't use boxee or any of the other DLNA units, just the PS3 because I already own it. The interface isn't awesome, but whatever. And playon is great for me because it was a one time fee of $80-90 bucks which is a single month's cable bill, to be honest. And now I only pay for NetFlix, and my Hulu stream is free. You can't beat free.

What's the benefits of jailbreaking your PS3?

I have playon, I don't like it as much as I like the user interfaces of Hulu, Netflix, etc. However, I do like that you can download scripts for channels. I use it for comedy central, cartoon network, etc. I'm about halfway sure that I'm going to build a media center so that I can use moxi boxee and all the other 'ox-(ies). I just don't know if I want to spend close to a grand doing it. Or $600 at the least.

Groovies: Betty Boop & Soul Coughing

DarkenRahl says...

I think that judging Cartoon Network on its Adult Swim block isn't really fair. I believe that the most creative work airs then, even if I dislike much of it.

The tendency to simply show cartoons all day and hope that it's good enough is what I find disappointing. Groovies were aired during the normal day when I first saw them, and they really broke up the regularly scheduled toons. I saw Rolling because I was channel surfing and heard a song that I really liked. For the next few months I'd stop at Cartoon Network for a few minutes, hoping I'd see more like it. It was a fresh way to show cartoons, and I wish they would do more of that instead of showing Dragonball and Star Wars cartoons back to back.

I first saw Dana Snyder, the voice of Master Shake, on "Saul of the Mole Men," one of [adult swim]'s live action joints. And I remember it blowing my mind then. I hear him everywhere now. He's the Alchemist in "The Venture Bros.," Granny on "Squidbillies," and even some character named Gazpacho on "Chowder," one of the wacky shows for kids on Cartoon Network.

Little known fact: the voices of Meatwad and Err are also producers on ATHF.

>> ^RedSky Actually ... wait isn't there some Canadian Comedy Central site where you can watch it already?

You'd think so wouldn't there? Funny enough, there is a large degree of difference between the comedy network in Canada, and in the US. The same as the history network in both countries, and the Cartoon Network. In Canada, all three versions take on a new meaning of the word "suck." Not only that, but the sites are so poorly designed that you can't find half of the stuff, and most of the shows aren't actually on there. Take that as futurama and others.

Now, as for advertisers? If you didn't notice, 80% of the Canadian population lives with 200mi of the US border. We see the same stuff, we buy the same goods(sometimes in the same packaging for more money), sometimes we even buy the same goods in smaller packages(for more money). And we even see the same commercials on Canadian TV(with a label switch), sometimes not even then.

I still haven't figured out what the issues are.

Brilliant Craig Ferguson Rant About Why Society Sucks

peggedbea says...

i have a problem with this counterpoint babymech.
i hope you are not devaluing the lessons history can teach us.

and the first time society is "truly" progressive....
how about taking a long look at abolitionist history, the new republican party, the labor movement of the late 19th/early 20th century, rise of anarchism in america, the history of the naacp, populism movement, the womens christian temperance union, birth control, the great migration, womens suffrage, the new deal, womens refusal to leave their factory jobs after ww2, all the way up to civil rights, womens equal rights movement, and now were working on gay rights.

our history is wholly progressive. always. just because old foggies accomplished it before we were around and now it seems outdated, that doesnt mean it wasnt progressive. in fact, looking at the list above i see most of these events could have happened in one persons lifetime. how much social change has occured in my lifetime? instead of nirvana we have nickleback, mtv quit showing videos and now airs reality shows, cartoon network..... please someone add something redeeming to this list... oh wait... the end of the cold war, but noone my age had anything to do with it...

i do agree that a society relies on young minds for new innovation, but i think my generation would be better innovators if a well rounded education was easier to come by than pop culture trivia and material consumption.

I've watched a few episodes on Cartoon Network and watched the 1st DVD through blockbuster online, but Vol. 2-4 are never available, which sucks. I like what I've seen so far. Interesting that there is a live action version, i'll have to check that out.

Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Ninja Scroll (the movie, not the series) are a few of my favorites.
