FreshPotix | How Dave Grohl manages coffee addiction

newtboy jokingly says...

Do you let it ferment? Otherwise it's just plain coffee...and that's no fun.

I started with the hard stuff, quadruple espresso with near equal parts sugar....often followed by a second, at 16 years old. I calmed down to just 1/2 a pot of strong coffee daily now, still full of sugar and cream. I never liked coffeehol....alcoholic coffee....but I am a confirmed coffee addict. ;-)

BSR said:

Started developing a taste for it at 16. Hung out with some buddies and we would cruise "the strip" at night in Easton PA. Northampton St. We would stop at Dunkin' Donuts and I was the only one who would drink soda out of about 5 - 6 of us. Peer pressure ya know.

So I started to develop a taste for coffee by adding lots of sugar and cream to it. I eventually worked my way down to just one creamer and no sugar.

So now I'll have at least one iced coffee with an espresso shot a day and hot coffee in the morning and later at night. Since I'm on call 24hrs a day I have no regular sleeping pattern. I also drink cold Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey. Good stuff.

Notre Dame Faculty Pens Open Letter To Delay Hearings

Mordhaus says...

It would be incredibly likely that any attempt to add new seats to the Supreme Court would be found unconstitutional.

However, it wouldn't be the first time we have had more or fewer judges. This isn't something new as opposing political entities have done their best to stack the court, one way or the other, from the very beginning.

If it happens, it happens. Although I suspect it might lead to another civil war if it is obnoxious enough. Maybe we can end up in Districts this time, with some sort of gladiatorial display to keep the masses calm?

newtboy said:

I think it was more because Moscow Mitch made it clear was serious that he wasn't holding any confirmation hearings for Obama by not even hearing Merrick Garland, actually a republican pick, that he wasn't going to consider anyone Obama put forth.

The politics of "because I can", not serving the country or even his party, just his own animus.

This precedent is going to backfire big-time if, as appears likely, dems take the Whitehouse and Senate. Adding ten seats to the supreme court and filling them with far left activist judges might happen just because they can, and that's the standard now.

For all intents and purposes his powers are revoked when the Senate is only interested in obstructionism, like today's that won't consider bills and revels in their nickname "the chamber of death, where bills go to die".

The "lame duck" ploy was just pure "because we can"ism. No legal precedent, actually a dereliction of duty by congress ignoring what the constitution says they shall do. I sure as Fuck hope dems grow a spine and ignore all right wing arguments as they have ignored democrats, and play the politics of "because we can" through October 2024, then write an amendment to stop more...like capping the supreme court at 19 forever and other instances where because I can-ism can override patriotism. If they don't exercise their power to the fullest, ignoring any attempt to reach across the aisle or compromising to get some bypartisanism in the next two years at a minimum (assuming they win), they'll deserve to be discarded.

Ticked Off Vic: Mitch the Bitch

BSR says...

I was with him for about a minute or two before I couldn't take the pain anymore. It kept me from finishing the video. If I turned the volume down then it was hard to hear the calm parts. So he got my up-vote for the first minute or so.

Yea, I get you. I just strongly identify with his opinion. I look at it this way, he is not yelling at us but with us.

There Is No Art In This White House

By Elayne Griffin Baker

There’s no literature or poetry in the White House. No music. No Kennedy Center award celebrations. There are no pets in this White House. No loyal man’s best friend. No Socks the family cat. No kids’ science fairs. No times when this president takes off his blue suit-red tie uniform and becomes human, except when he puts on his white shirt-khaki pants uniform and hides from Americans to play golf. There are no images of the first family enjoying themselves together in a moment of relaxation. No Obamas on the beach in Hawaii moments, or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport, no Reagans on horseback, no Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape.

I was thinking the other day of the summer when George H couldn’t catch a fish and all the grandkids made signs and counted the fish-less days. And somehow, even if you didn’t even like GHB, you got caught up in the joy of a family that loved each other and had fun. Where did that country go? Where did all of the fun and joy and expressions of love and happiness go?

We used to be a country that did the ice bucket challenge and raised millions for charity. We used to have a president that calmed and soothed the nation instead dividing it. And a First Lady that planted a garden instead of ripping one out. We are rudderless and joyless. We have lost the cultural aspects of society that make America great. We have lost our mojo, our fun, our happiness. The cheering on of others. Gone. The shared experiences of humanity that makes it all worth it. Gone. The challenges AND the triumphs that we shared and celebrated. The unique can-do spirit Americans have always been known for. Gone. We have lost so much in so short a time.

Vote Democratic all the way down the ballot on November 3rd.

One side was goaded to be deplorable at a 2/10, one side was just himself at a 9/10 deplorable level.

If you quote Trump, you're bringing up false Trump statements, because 98.6% of what he says is false.

Trump didn't have an iota of self control, he's like a three year old hippie child with ADD and parents that don't believe in discipline, manners, civility, or honesty. He was so out of control the moderators will have a mute button on him the next two debates, so expect Trump to no show. If it's not going to be a circus, there's not a place for a clown like him.

America lost....3 years and <11 months ago.
Nothing was taken out of context at all, liar. He was asked to denounce white supremacy and direct his people to remain calm after the election and not resort to violence, he insisted on a specific group because he won't denounce white supremacy, (not even David Duke or the KKK, who he DOES know well despite his lies to the contrary, he's spent months ranting about a democratic candidate that should have dropped out because Duke said something nice about them a few years back, he certainly knew who David Duke and the KKK were then, but can't denounce either today). He was given a group to denounce, the racist and terroristic proud boys, and he said "stand back and stand by", in no way a denouncement nor a direction to not resort to violence, in fact it was a direction to prepare for violence and is their new slogan. When given another chance the next day to denounce them and call for no violence on his behalf, he failed again. It wasn't a mistake, out of context, and he has never denounced white supremacy by name and has publicly excused and applauded them committing murders and other violent acts more than once. Trump doesn't just support white supremacy, he relies on it as his base. They use his words as their slogans, and he loves it.

Have you denounced your pedophilic actions and remarks? No? Why not? Why won't you agree to stop raping little boys?

bobknight33 said:

That was a disgrace of a debate. Both sides deplorable.
Biden constantly pulling up false trump statements and Trump stopping him every time.

No one won. America lost.
As for racist remarks, again taken out of context and yes Trump has denounce time and time again.

But has Biden denounced his racist remarks?

I'm Smart

newtboy says...

No way, he didn't come off perfect, but the comparison with the two year old with ADD he shared the stage with was striking. Just think, if he skipped this one we wouldn't have video proof to show Trump is a leader of white supremacist terrorists, not one to denounce them or even call for calm, just one to give instructions to "stand by" for violent action after the election.

I was thinking the moderator should have switches to just turn their microphones off when it's not their turn. This president calls for much more direct control that appealing to decorum, civility, or agreed on rules....as he proved. Cut his microphone, I bet he would walk off whining and crying.

Biden should just say 'Naw, fuck this' and blow off any future debates.

Doc Rivers

newtboy says...

Hmmmm...ok, that's not legislation but is what I meant. A forced buyback program is going to have issues.

1) I have no problem with companies having to answer for injuries caused by the prescribed, advertised proper use of their product. If shoes were sold as having the greatest shin kicking power, doing the most damage when you kick someone, shoe manufacturers should be sued by those who get kicked. If manufacturers haven't modeled and advertised in a way that suggests dangerous uses, the suits will lose. Lawyers don't take loser cases, so it won't be an issue imo. Special protections from liability are a problem imo.

2) I've never understood the endgame there. What is an assault rifle, and how are their capabilities special? That said, no one is clamoring for Uzis to come back. Without a legitimate reason for high capacity fast shooting rifles, and no attempts to ban semi auto rifles, I'm just not that bothered by it, but I do think it's placating not meaningful legislation.

3) I have zero issues with registration or background checks. That seems the right way to deal with "assault rifles". There's no reason it should be expensive or time consuming if records are up to date. If they make it expensive as a tax disincentive against ownership, I have a problem. Shooting isn't a cheap sport, $10-20 a year shouldn't bother those who spent $2k on one rifle.

4) No issue at all with voluntary buy backs. Involuntary buybacks are going to be a legal and practical nightmare.

5) one purchase per month, a bit much. One purchase at a time, I'm ok with, that's 3 a month, right? I'm suspicious of anyone who needs multiple guns quick before they calm down.

6) I'm all for universal background checks. I don't want nutjob and violent criminals buying guns they aren't allowed to own.

7) I'm all for not allowing those who can't handle day to day existence to buy guns. I'm even ok with TEMPORARY removal of their guns in some cases, but only if they're returned immediately after they're deemed competent.

misdemeanor hate crime? I thought hate crime was an enhancement charge that took a misdemeanor up to felony level. I'm definitely against taking gun rights away permanently for misdemeanors.

9) dunno what that is.

10) the problem is you can buy a receiver that needs to be finished, as little as one tiny drill hole is enough, with no serial number or registration. It's just a chunk of metal until it's finished. No problem with a background check for every purchase, but a maximum of one check per month seems a reasonable compromise.

11) with proper oversight and a system that ensures it's not abused, no problem for me.

12) Yes, strict guidelines and quick return seem necessary. 48 hours without a doctor stating it's necessary would work, but as of now they aren't ready for prime time on that it seems.

13) had that in cali forever, not an issue yet.

14) as designed, smart guns wouldn't be hackable, there's no reason for wireless connectivity. Battery? Make it charge itself by shaking it like some flashlights? I like the idea that guns can only be used by the owner, solves so many issues, mainly being shot with your own gun.

15) depends on what constitutes "safe". I agree, guns for home defense need to be available quickly.

16) some ghost guns are milled on professional cnc mills but unfinished. 3d printed guns, I'm not a fan. 3 shots is plenty to murder someone, and with no identification it's a near perfect weapon for crimes.
3d printing is advancing constantly. You can print in metal with fine details now on home equipment. I think it won't be long before stable guns can be printed if they aren't already.

Thanks for doing the research. I seriously doubt most could pass even a democratic congress but some would, and most won't pass court challenges, but I understand your reluctance to put that to the test.

If you're going to fight the swamp thing, I won't argue against leaving a few snakes in the black lagoon. Some opposition is healthy, but the ability to be obstructionist on every idea is gridlock. I don't see it getting better.

Trump Lashes Out Over Report He Insulted Fallen Soldiers

newtboy says...

A leader calms the nation AS THEY LEAD, they calm by explaining the problem and outlining the solution, not by saying nothing's wrong, the virus is a hoax, take no precautions, don't wear masks, go back to work, come to my rally, do everything the worst way possible for public health so hundreds of thousands die, just don't be scared....it's ok to die.

Other nations were honest, treated citizens like adults, and solved their pandemic issues. Trump wasn't, Trump didn't, we have 4% of the world's population and 25% of covid deaths and rising fast. His non plan to pretend nothing's wrong cost 180000 lives SO FAR, and estimated to more than double by Xmas.
Trump called for Obama's resignation because two Americans got Ebola.

Does the nation seem calm? Does it seem United? Does it even seem led? Fuck, the delusion, bob, you're so spun you say insanity like there's no racism in America and Democrats are the racists.

Cranial rectosis is real, Bob. Get checked.

So stupid, Bob, it's not fake just because you aren't outraged your president lied to you and made you a liar along with him. So much for your nothing burger, everything he told you about Covid was bullshit, just like I told you then, and you're mad at me for saying so, not him for lying and killing 180000 Americans by misleading them into deadly behavior.

Like the fake story about him knowing personally how deadly and transmissible Covid is in January but telling people it wasn't deadly or a danger that he's admitted now that the tapes are public but denied for 6 months?

Too bad for you you're just parroting another right wing media lie, Bobby. That's why you can't find it reported anywhere besides right wing opinion "news".

What he said is....
"Goldberg then conceded that questions about anonymous sources were “reasonable” to raise, adding that he thought it was fine to “ask why people who have had direct exposure to Donald Trump, who know what Donald Trump has said, who know what Donald Trump has done, but won’t simply come out and say it.”"

The reason is obvious, they don't want their families threatened and attacked by rabid right wing terrorists like others have been.

You have no problem repeating anonymous lies Trump tells you he heard someone is saying on the internet, you know, like vaccines are made from alien DNA, hydroxy is safe and works against Covid, and illness is caused by demon jizz, but when literally dozens of current and former high ranking officials and military all confirm the stories, the fact that they rightly fear retaliation from Trump and the Trumptards only shows they're paying attention. He and your ilk have threatened and attacked every whistleblower he could find....and their families. Remaining anonymous is smart and reasonable....and protected by law.

Not surprisingly, yesterday he was bragging about how he spends his day working so hard for you....9 hours watching Faux opinion tv a day which barely leaves enough time to tweet 200 times before night night time. When does he take the time to lead? Saving that for his next term I suppose.

Sounds like, against the protests from the mayor and residents, Trump is going to Kenosha to stand with the killers of unarmed black men.
He in his infinite wisdom thinks that will calm things down and bring them together.

Dude! He's calm and rational compared to the seething batshit that's emerged from under their collective rocks since Baby Rambo decided to start his murder spree. These fucking people are crazy, even by American standards. This shit isn't even limited to Zero Hedge and 4chan anymore -- you run into on pretty much any site dealing with finance, much less totally political sites. They're not even remotely shy about wanting to kill BLM protesters and anyone they think is ANTIFA.

Welcome to the end game, motherfuckers, and the worst part is that I have to live it with you because an American passport is totally worthless now.

it's pretty hilarious that americans think working jobs is how money is made. you guys have more than enough money to keep your people fed, roofs over their heads, and bills paid, which keeps the economy going, keeps people calm, and able to isolate in a pandemic.

I went in the late 80's. Nicest people I've ever met, with Iceland a very close second.
Both made me feel depressed about how Americans act. By comparison, we are a group of uncivil toddlers.

Edit: my favorite story that exemplifies this was from a hot spring we visited with a dozen concrete pools on a hillside, one emptying into the next. Two groups of kids were playfully throwing pebbles at each other from one pool to the next when one, about 12, stood up and in the most calm voice and proper enunciated English said "Excuse me, but I would appreciate it if you would stop throwing stones.", and they all stopped. We just couldn't imagine that working with American kids, they would all target the complainer. It was quite a lesson on how civilized they are, and how far behind American manners have fallen.

It's not CNN, it's directly from Trump himself. Trump's tweets are fake news?! Wow, that's progress.

He's going to try to shit on the constitution, again. He has zero respect for it, guaranteed he's never once read it through. He's not tossing it out completely....yet.

Schools are safe?! Students and teachers in them aren't. It's insanity to claim they even might be.
Kids aren't immune, kids under 10 still get sick from covid they just rarely die but many are permanently disabled, and they bring it home to mom, dad, older sister, grandma, etc. Kids over 10 are the same as the rest of us Covid wise. Classrooms are Petri dishes, it would be hard to design a place more likely to spread diseases, dozens of kids in close proximity with no ability to social distance, no hygiene, eating together hip to hip, basically being irresponsible children with little supervision. Note, schools aren't safe enough for Trump to send his child back.

Trump's team can't tell the difference between peaceful protests and rioters, that's why time and time again they're filmed attacking peaceful protests, beating and macing seated calm protesters, using tear gass on peaceful protests including shooting canisters at people's faces from point blank range, trapping crowds in enclosed areas with one exit, blocking that exit and attacking en mass, intentionally targeting media using weapons, rubber bullets, pepper spray and capsaicin bullets, driving vehicles into crowds with intent to harm peaceful protesters, beating and mace bukakke-ing peaceful and calm veterans who just stand and take it without even defending themselves, cracking elderly skulls open not rendering aid and claiming the victim was faking, etc. Trump has tried to label BLM a terrorist organization, and directed his shock troops to treat them as such. Repeatedly they are on camera trying to spark violence by attacking peaceful protesters, and have been filmed supervising white people vandalizing in the name of BLM, even directing the vandalism.

Yes, fake news like OAN, Glen Beck, and Fox can't tell the difference and hope you can't either, that's why they fake photos, adding in armed antifa, using old out of state burning riot photos to pretend Portland is on fire, never mentioning that those caught starting fires, shooting cops, driving into crowds, shooting into crowds, etc have been far right wing boogaloo boys, not protesters. Never mentioning the protests are limited to about a 4 block area of Portland, not the entire city. They pretend that when peaceful crowds are shot at and gassed and a few toss back empty water bottles as they retreat, the crowds instigated it and forced "police" (not really police) to use excessive force (ignoring the fact that the agents shot first) by being violent....but oddly have no video of violent protesters to corroborate their unbelievable stories in dozens of cases. In the list of violent acts that drove the unwanted deployment of federal thugs, 9/10 were graffiti. Fake news can't seem to tell graffiti from firebombing.

Where were they when crowds of armed thugs were taking over state capitals and calling for the mob execution of governors and officials over quarantining a few weeks back? What was different there? Hmmmm...
