It's Not Okay

BSR says...

I think U2 said it best:

"This song, Charles Manson stole from the Beatles. We're stealing it back." -- Bono

@BSR, the video made clear why that, like the OK hand gesture, are racist. In a vacuum, you're correct, that statement is as true as all your other examples, but we don't live in a vacuum, and that slogan is purely racist and is intended to be just that. Bob would like us to all ignore that and think as you suggest...because that allows his racist brethren to spout their racism and claim morality and righteousness, but privately among the like minded, they're gleeful about cucking the libtards and getting away with public racism, shielded by the intentional misrepresentation of their meanings.

Same here, this album and tour had an enormous impact on me. I saw them in Boston and Providence at the beginning of this tour and it inspired me to start creating animations and editing videos. I tuned out after Zooropa too, the only songs I listen to since then are Mofo and Elevation.

There's a video on Youtube somewhere that I will have to sift if I can find it, it has a lot more material from this era, like the "Eau de Zoo" perfume commercial you see on the Times Square screen (where Bono says "God bless ya, Zoo products")

I love this era of U2. The end of the Brian Eno production days. To be honest, anything before The Unforgettable Fire and after Zooropa is outside my listening zone. Eno changed the band and that's no embellishment, you can find interviews all about how Brian Eno was uncertain about the collab but Bono was so on fire about him being the producer, he was willing to change the direction of the band simply to have him produce.

It's the Tarantino Tough-guys versus the Eastwood-Bronsonians. Pretty apt given that Dirty Harry's original nemesis Scorpio was a smug and chatty murderer.

Tarantino's antiheros are the natural enemies of Harry Callahan. Even Gene Hackman's character in Unforgiven is a loud mouth to the moment he dies complaining life ain't fair, he was building a house. *BLAM*

Thanks, Bono, that connected some hero/antihero dots for me.

Yeah, that gabby contrived toilet mouth dialog you always find in his scripts. Some of the a-holes i work with, I call them Tarantino Tough-guys because they copy that smug chattiness. I tell them to try copying Bronson or Eastwood and keep their mouth shut.

It's called the "MTV Generation", Bono. Here, stare at yourself for a little bit, that'll make it all feel better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co6WMzDOh1o

Apparently I'm in the minority but I cant watch videos where no shot is retained longer than one second, it really becomes an effort to watch it. There were some potentially great shots, especially the cityscapes. But all the clips are dropped on the timeline and then diced up, what a waste.

Mackeeper suing 14 year old

newtboy says...

Not until they actually file a case. Until then, a lawyer is a waste of money....and maybe even after then as well.
They have no case....at least in America where he did what they complain about (and where it's perfectly legal and not actionable if it's opinion or true, which is the best, and an absolute defense to a libel suit), and I think a civil judgement in Norway is not transferable to other countries, so means nothing outside Norway as far as I know.
Also....you can't get a civil judgement against a minor in America, at least not one worth the paper it's printed on.
He needs to wait to be served, then go on YouTube and beg for a decent pro-bono lawyer in Norway to defend him, I'm sure there's plenty of them out there, unemployed, that would love to take this case and counter sue the company for all it's worth for their 1/3 of the judgement.

Actually that fit right in with their old strategy, before their new one of buying an extension of the copyright on Mickey Mouse (the 1998 Sonny Bono Mickey Mouse protection act).

Maybe they're hedging their bets?

Is this Disney's new film strategy? Remake 40-year old movies in an effort to renew copyright?

Warrants served for cheering at graduation

Mordhaus says...

Yes, public HS. He didn't issue the summons, just called his cop buddies and had them cited for disturbing the peace. One of those nice charges that you kind of have to pay if you can't find a decent pro bono lawyer. Public Defender will just tell you to plead out and pay the fine.

I think the movie is some part of roots, not sure. I figured people would know that was the end of the clip.

*wtf
Was this public school graduation? If so, does the superintendent really have the authority to demand silence at a public function, and to issue summonses? That's news to me.

Needs a tube chop at 2:07.
What movie is that after the story?

Excellent things going on here. I've discussed copy writing the FAQ pro bono as a means to address some of the concerns mentioned above. I'll start revising the doc, but please feel free to comment or message me about anything you think may benefit our content.
