Ronda Rousey Demonstrates Infamous Armbar on Jimmy

lucky760 says...

Big fan of hers. She's such a tough, skilled badass. She's like a young Mike Tyson, kicking asses and not even bothering to take names later.

The only problem is there's no one who comes close to her level of badassery, so most of her fights are no contest, but her last fight with Miesha Tate was the best ever.

I think Bethe Correia should be a challenge, but we shall see.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (trailer)

ChaosEngine says...

Ok, THAT is fuckin badass.

Goddamnit, Tom Cruise annoys me. He's an ok actor, competent but not amazing, and everytime I see him interviewed he's seems like a really cool guy. He doesn't pretend to be something he's not and freely admits "yeah, I'm rich, I have fighter planes and custom motorbikes" which is EXACTLY how you should behave if you're lucky enough to have the money to do it.

And then I remember that he's a scientology asshole...

A New Level Of Archery Skills

bareboards2 says...

@eric3579 I never had an issue with all the details of what he is doing -- couldn't care less about bow strength and armor. I was more curious if he is ACTUALLY DOING IT, or if this was some sort of CGI.

I did find this one article about him, posted Jan 2015, with these two quotes that spoke to my issues:

"This guy is the Clint Eastwood of archery," says Tim Wells, professional bow hunter and host of the TV show, Relentless Pursuit. "Or if I was talking to someone who had never shot a bow and arrow, I'd say he is the 'Bruce Lee playing ping pong of archery.' We have all played ping-pong and none of us can play with nun chucks — that's what this guy's skillset with a bow is comparable to. He's a badass."

Experts agree that the skills demonstrated in the video are unbelievable, but also completely real. "His skillset is tremendous," says Byron Ferguson, owner of the Bare Bow Archery School and star archer on the History Channel's show, Extreme Marksmen. "These shots are legitimate, despite some video editing. His speed is almost unbelievable."

I can't tell if they have met this guy or not, or if they, too, are just looking at the videos. That other "world record"? All I can find is more videos and nothing from Guinness or anyone else.

So at present, I am going to stay neutral as to whether this guy is for reals or not.

Cyborg Animates with Repurposed Power Glove

artician says...

I have a Power Glove and a ROB the Robot on my desk for personal nostalgia. I wouldn't tear them apart, but this certainly has me considering a second purchase for something else that's awesome.

Kudos to this guy for being an extra-special badass.

Colbert interviews Anita Sarkeesian

Asmo says...

Yes, she's great at pointing that out.

What's the solution?

Quota's of protagonists sex? Replacing "damsel" with "prince" in distress? Getting rid of chainmail bikinis?

Oh, and how do we propagate that to the entire entertainment industry?

There is nothing wrong with playing a prince and rescuing a princess. There is nothing wrong with the princess being helpless. There is nothing wrong with Femmeshep kicking the shit out of the reapers and saving every being in the known universe, one of the most badass female protagonists around. More female protagonists = great, bring it on, but that's no reason to throw out a trope as old as time (incidentally, a trope enjoyed by a great many women who like to watch sappy romances where the charming fellow rescues the woman from her crappy life...).

Her series predicates on the concept that players are too fucking dumb to understand the difference between real life and the game. That if you play Duke Nukem, you'll walk around slapping girls tits and saying the most inappropriate things you can think of.

It's exactly the same tripe that Jack Thompson was peddling back in the day, games change how you think. And, for most people (ie. the mentally stable...), it was wrong then and it's wrong now. Your upbringing and parental guidance, and the relationship your male role models have with women, are far more likely to determine whether or not a man is likely to be sexist/misogynist than a few games with scantily clad girls needing a big strong man to save them... Society has changed to become more accepting of race, creed, sexual orientation and, of course, women, and it will continue to become so even if the old trope of the princess is in another castle hangs around. It may take generations before inequality dies out, if it ever does. It's not something you can fix by complaining about games.

SDGundamX said:

Her videos don't make the argument that games cause violence against women or anyone else. She analyzed the roles of women in games and found trends in how they were portrayed. These were not flattering portrayals (for example the "Damsel in Distress" portrayal) and male characters were not often treated in the same way in games. She's pointing out how off-putting that can be to potential and actual female gamers and recommending women be portrayed in a more realistic manner. She's also pointing out how games are reinforcing the sexist and misogynistic messages that already exist in society. I don't think she is claiming media is the root cause of either sexism or misogyny.

Cat rescue turns into burlesque -- so much fail it hurts

Badass Citizen Pulls Over Cop To Issue Him A Warning

MichaelL says...

No cops aren't above the law... that's why I anxiously await the next in this series of videos:
1. Badass citizen confronts cop caught jaywalking.
2. Badass citizen dresses down cop for littering.

Was he a cop breaking the law. Yes. Was the videographer in the right to stop him? Yes.
It sounds like you think cops are above the law, and should never be taken to task for non egregious violations.

Shit Steve Harvey says

Screamingabyss says...

Steve probably thinks he's badass for his antiquated, thinly veiled bigotry. One thing anyone with a moral compass (I prefer compass to barometer) needs to understand is that these days being an asshole is a schtick. Let's see this for what it is. Assholes spouting received morality as a schtick should not be surprising or insulting. They get paid for it, the other assholes applaud them and they get to feel superior. Circle jerk. Time to move on people.

Meanwhile in Australia

Kangaroo fights must last for days. Cursed with those tiny upper limbs, all of their power is in their legs, which only connect blows with the torso. Badass matrix-like tail bouncing leg shots and all it results in is a silly slap fight. This is so sad and so hilarious.
