David Bowie ~ Ashes to Ashes

ulysses1904 says...

I bought this 45 rpm in 1980, back when they still sold 45's. First 45 I ever bought was "In the Year 2525" in 1969, last one I bought was the Stones "Undercover of the Night" in 1984. Since you asked.

This was Bowie's last great album. They went rapidly downhill after this one. I saw him on the Serious Moonlight tour, it was a great show but then I read this lame BS where he said he was "surprised" by the commercial success of "Let's Dance" and when he looked out into the vast stadiums of ticket buyers he wondered how many of them had actually heard a Velvet Underground song. Ya can't have it both ways, putting out a dance record for the MTV crowd and then wishing you were at a backstreet club.

Oblivion -- First Trailer

TheSluiceGate says...

If and when they make Half Life into a movie I hope it doesn't look as shitty as this. Or cast someone as awful as Tom Cruise. Has CGI not progressed since the Lost in Space movie, or the backstreet boys "Larger than Life" video?

Hilarious Parody! What Makes you Beautiful - One Direction

Kofi says...

This band sucks? Really? Need I remind you of the Backstreet Boys? East 17? This band is like them but toned down a million. And their fashion sense won't be laughably hilarious in 10 years time.

Police State: Arrested For Dancing in the Jefferson Memorial

xxovercastxx says...

@bareboards2: The warning the officer issues as the video starts is that they are not allowed to dance in the memorial. If they had been doing something else, something worse, I imagine he would have said so. The evidence suggests to me that dancing was all they did.

@d3n4l1: Inappropriate is not the same as illegal. We don't need to imprison everyone we disagree with; sometimes we can just think they're assholes and move on. I wouldn't have any problem at all with people slow dancing as the one couple was shown doing. If they were to break out in choreographed line dancing, Backstreet Boys style, that might be a little irritating. It's hard to even say it would be inappropriate at a Jefferson memorial. Let's keep it in perspective; we're talking about a member of the Hellfire Club here.

@Shepppard: How would you suggest I go about protesting protest permits?

Feist on Sesame Street

10909 says...

>> ^laura:
Anyone else heard the rumour that the people who appear on Sesame Street are doing so because they were court ordered to community service? Or is it just me...I've always wondered if that was true.

Yes, it's true. Feist, Michael Stipe, Tyra Banks, The Backstreet Boys, Jack Black, James Blunt, Tim Robbins, Noah Wyle, Blair Underwood and about one hundred other celebrities were all only on Sesame Street to honor a court order. I mean, it's a rumor you heard, it MUST be true!

Palin Explains Why Raped Women Should Be Forced ToBear child

MINK says...

"i want to see less and less abortions in the united states, i haven't spoken to anyone who disagrees with me on that".

Oh! I see! you haven't spoken to anyone who disagrees with that.

It's like when you said "I think I am prepared" (to be VP). Unarguable! You are genius!

Fundamentalists think they are being so clear and logical with their extremism, and that we should all appreciate them for being so "committed" to their "ideals".

Fuck that, I have the strength and compassion to recognise that forcing a girl to spend her whole life raising her father's child is fucking sick, twisted and ridiculous.

What's more ridiculous is she'll just go get a backstreet abortion anyway, and maybe lose her womb in the process. Way to treat a pedophiliaincestrape victim. How I admire your respect for "life".

By the way, I believe life applies to animals as well, are you gonna stop shooting the fuck out of them?

But, more accidents happen in backstreets and streets near people's homes than on freeways.

You don't see them covered as they're not spectacular... just as dangerous though (I still remember my uncle pulling a man out of a burning car that hit a power pole just next to our house when I was a kid).

Scenic routes are great, except when you just need to get where you're going.

Yes it's good to be aware of what going on around, and have an eye and ear open for trouble... but to avoid things altogether just because of some vague possibility of danger. I'd prefer to use the freeways, but do so in a manner that makes for safe driving. (lots of distance between you and car in front, anticipate people doing stupid things etc. etc.)

In reply to this comment by NordlichReiter:
I told tamman2000 the same thing.

For some of us danger is uncommon but for a few of us danger is an every day thing.

That's why I got out of my last line of work.

Do i let it rule my life, no I don't. But do I let my guard down, I was trained not to.

I said stay off the highways, it means take a back road. Scenic route is much better than a bunch of cars on the highway.

My posts are to be taken with salt. I love to joke.

By the way those are good odds, I should play the lotto.

I sure hope you're being sarcastic.

What an insanely fearful way to live that robs you of basic joys every day. If you spend all your time worrying about what could, possibly, in a 1 in a 100,000 chance, maybe happen if you go out of the house... then... really... what's the point of life.

But then, I get the impression you are joking because, well, your post makes little sense... how has anyone got any back to a wall, and how does this apply to subways?

13 Nostalgia-Heavy Commercials To Make You Pine For 1987 (80s Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

What I remember about the '80s I would rather forget. From a shitty high school experience to hearing Debbie Fucking Gibson and New Kids on the Fucking Block on the radio, I'll safely tuck my memories of the '80s into my high school year books, which I threw away ages ago.

Give me the '90s, man. Backstreet Boys rocked!
