Thanks for the clarification -- I'm glad this is in the comment stream.

Yeah, I think lies is a great thing to add -- and take out parody. Lies is more accurate.

Stupid crazy world. Things are better, thank god. And stupid crazy world.

Personally, I did not find this video very funny - well, other than in the "better-to-laugh-than-to-cry" way - thus the fear, history and controversy channels (and no comedy channel). The parody channel was added by @ant, and I interpret that as synonymous to "a travesty" (no offense to transvestites), especially vis-à-vis what you point out, i.e. that gang-rape is a very male (and almost always heterosexual) vice. What is really alarming is that there are still hateful bigots out there depicting the lesbian "agenda" in this way today (see for example Pat Robertson on "lesbian babykilling"). It seemed to me that the * lies contained in this propaganda film were so obvious that adding that channel would be redundant, but perhaps I should just in case?

One caveat though: women can and do commit sexual abuse, albeit to a far, far lesser extent than men.

Lesbians: they're out to rape you!

So, sorry to be a downer on this almost hysterically funny vid...
I watched this with great amusement until the "gang rape" part started. It took a turn to the dark for me, but I thought maybe I was being all uber-sensitive. So I sent the link to my Resident Expert Lesbian and asked her what she thought. She said this:
"I mean, I GET the melodramatic aspect, which is sort of amusing, but because this is how we've been portrayed as fact in recent HIStory, it's so creepy AND damaging and you know it must have been believed. So it's painful for me to watch as well, you know?
Women just don't rape, and especially don't gang rape. Grossest male behavior. I'm so glad I know so many gentle lovable men! Anyway, thanks for sharing-I never knew this was produced!"

Wait a couple more years and just as in Vietnam we'll start hearing about the disgusting level of atrocities, the =intentional= murder of innocents, that went on in Iraq.
In Vietnam they were called babykillers for a reason.

and bleeding heart liberals were called pansies for a reason. Who would have thunk it, bad stuff happens when you try to kill each other with high explosive, doh.

QM & The Rush Right Have One Less Non-Issue (Politics Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

^ Personally, I hope that the various non-progressive parties out there start realizing that they need to spend most of their time on outreach, rather than demonizing their adversaries.

I'd read a conservative blog that was focusing on telling people how they'd solve the problems we'd face in our daily lives, rather than screaming "socialist, communist, babykiller!" all the time.

I have no idea how to fix the media at large, but I see nothing produced anywhere on TV or in most newspapers that blankfist and I would be able to consistently call impartial.

I like the idea of more voices, but I'd prefer to see more depth. Right now everything is treated like a gossip column following the Washington elites, and there's little real reporting on the actual issues. They don't ask the bailed out banks what their plans are to try and fix their major problems, they follow them around and look for signs of excess spending with taxpayer dollars.

They've pretty much all pulled their reporters out of Iraq, so it's very hard to find out what's going on with the interplay between the various groups are, and let us try to reach our own conclusions about whether it's time for us to withdraw or not.

The oft-maligned Maddow has been one of the few to even raise the question about whether we should be pumping up troops in Afghanistan or not.

No one's trying to get a real conversation going about what the cause of our economic woe is. I'm pretty confident in my picture, but I've had to dig for it, and only PBS has bothered to try to explain it on TV. I know that picture is the majority view of mainstream economists, but we should shine some light on what the Republicans are saying, and while we're at it shine some light on what Austrians are saying.

I'm tired of media coverage being constantly dumbed-down to a preschool level. People in general are smarter than that, and most consumers of news are adults who need to make hard choices, and it'd be good if they were being given meaningful information, instead of a Washington politics reality show.

(And yes, I'm a big fan of that reality show, but people need to know the serious things underlying that reality show, and that there's major consequences when people get voted off the island.)

40 Reasons for Gun Control (Politics Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

^ I'd say what makes the debate phony is that Democrats don't really want to try to repeal the 2nd amendment anymore. I think there's a consensus in the Democratic party that the 2nd amendment provides for an individual right to bear arms (and we now have a SCOTUS decision affirming it).

Republicans try to make political hay of the fact that Democrats want laws to attempt to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, and try to limit the level of firepower an individual can personally own, but there just isn't any grassroots interest in the topic, generally. We're pretty happy with how gun laws work now, and are pretty tolerant of shifts in either direction.

So essentially, these "pro-gun" people are spoiling for a fight with people who don't really care. Worse, they're making up bullshit about how Obama in particular wants to end the private ownership of guns entirely, which is not just distortion, it's fiction that flies directly in the face of facts.

This is really and truly the most phony of the phony Republican wedge issues, largely because my half of the wedge just says "meh" about the whole topic.

Abortion is generally a better wedge because people on both sides care, though why people can't seem to come together in agreement over contraceptives and real sex ed as tools to reduce them, I can't fathom.

Sorry, I suppose I should wait until one of our resident Colmses makes a mindless post about liberal babykillers before we get on that topic.

Firstly there is no god, only the tyranny of evil men.

Secondly I agree with joe dirt, the Allies will always try to cover their asses for such a dasterdly use of the bomb to show stalin their true power.

Which russia would take steps further to drop the worlds largest nuke called the tsar bomba - King Bomb with 50 megatons.

Lets put it into perspective.

Little boy was 13 - 18 kilotons
fat man was 21 kilotons

Tsar bomba was 50 Megatons. the two little ones don't even come close to the big one.

The bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were little compared to the monstrosities that we have stocked up today.

What was it for? Its all a waste.

Such a twisted and wrong view of things.

The US were dragged into a war they didn't really want to be a part of (rightly or wrongly), they were attacked by the Japanese.

To suggest that the crew of the Enola Gay should be in eternal agony in hell is such a narrow minded, ridiculous outlook.

* The crew were but following orders
* Those in command thought they were doing something that, while it would kill an awful lot of people, would end up saving more in the long run
* Was the actions of a country that had been attacked by a powerful aggressor and couldn't see any diplomatic way out

And 9/11 has nothing to do with WWII.

You are a bitter individual who is no better than anyone who has killed during war as you are of the opinion that killing more people is a viable way to make the world a better place.

What a disgusting individual you are.

Pushy stupid cops!? Never! The Police Academy have such high standards - or so the documentary series of Police Academy would have me believe.

Seriously though, I would think that the sidewalk is public and thus not privately owned, which means the hotel have no right to say anything - much like in this http://www.videosift.com/video/Busted-for-Interbulating-a-scientology-party where the cultist babykillers (aka Scientologists) have no real jurisdiction on the road. Again a stupid cop that enforces that.

Bush heckled at Monticello

MINK says...

After what Bush has done, i think we can safely say he's given up his right to an uninterrupted meeting.

Fuck him quoting the ideals of the founding fathers.

The only american thing that can happen here is Bush gets hounded off every stage in the land until he has to resign due to an upcoming trial for crimes against humanity.

Oh, you don't think he's guilty? You don't think dropping bombs on a country that hasn't attacked you, killing civilians (not military targets) with your opening shots, and then invading with ground troops and taking over the oil ministry... you don't think that's the TEXTBOOK DEFINITION OF WAR CRIMES? That's not ENOUGH for you?

Fuck you if you stand up for Bush's "right" to speak uninterrupted. He's had his fucking chance. Being a babykiller SHOULD get you hounded off the fucking stage.

UGH. now i need a shower.

No it's not accurate. If it was I would be beheaded now because I live in a Islamic country. But strangely am not.

No, thats bad logic. its like saying "I've been smoking 2 packs a day for 20 years, and still havent got cancer, ergo, smoking doesnt cause cancer". I agree with the core proposition in this film: Islam is a dangerous ideology, and it is , as an idiology, fundamentally hostile to everything I hold dear.

This is not , and never will be, the same, or even comparable to saying "All muslims are evil" or any stupid shit like that.

Islam is an idea, a meme, a construct of ideas, not all of them are bad, not all of them stick in the minds of reasonable people. Clearly, Muslims, just like any political or religious groups, come in all shapes and sizes.

Imagine "Heinrich", your average German, 1935 National socialist party voter, would he be a wife-beater, a babykilling, murderous jew-hating zombie? Of course not, but the ideology he has bought into, that he is promoting, voting for, and helping to spread, is dangerous nonetheless.

If I made a similar film about nazism, would you say I was spreading lies and hatred about Heinrich and most Germans his age? Would my film be seen as a hate-mongering propaganda movie, and if thousands of angry Nazis threatened to kill me and lay waste to my civilization over that movie, would I, the hate-mongerer, be to blame?
