George Lucas Explains Why He Had To Break Up With Star Wars

spawnflagger says...

To his "don't go by the same coffee shop" point, it must have been really hard to avoid "the force awakens" with the huge marketing machine of Disney churning out toys and cross-promotions everywhere.

Flula Makes Hot Track w/ Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

If you're getting peculiar, welcome to my world. I wasnt attracted to her back when she first landed on my radar (Palin impressions), but there's something about her in the last few years that awakens within me the deep, sleeping desire to devour the beautiful. Now I just want to give her a tonguebath. (you know... like cats do).

Is Tina actually getting hotter as the years go by? Or am I just going peculiar with age?

Disney Are Being Douchebags To Quentin

SDGundamX says...

Douchebaggery of the highest order.

Tarantino is doing something really cool by bringing back the idea of the cinematic roadshow AND by making a film that is, by design, best seen with a 70mm projector (which only a few theaters in the country possess). Why does Disney care about ONE movie theater when they've got a worldwide release--especially as Star Wars is actually going to open in that theater anyway and be shown there for the first week, when the biggest returns will happen).

Seriously, I can't understand why Disney would do this, unless Tarantino royally pissed off some Disney executive who is now getting their revenge.

EDIT:

Was reading more about this on Reddit and learned that this likely happened because Disney is aggressively going to try to break the all-time box office record and therefore wants "all hands on deck" and the movie playing in as many theaters as possible.

Also, there are reports coming out that this was not a recent change but one that Disney forced through months ago, the evidence for this being that the Arclight theater in question was listed as available for the online pre-ordering of tickets for The Force Awakens over the holidays way back in October. However, it seems Tarantino was only informed of the change recently.

The Force Awakens - spoiler free review (Spacy Talk Post)

Attack of the Tomatoes, err Clones.

Who is NOT going to see Force Awakens/Episode VII(7/) right away? I am most likely going to wait a little bit. Also, were there a lot of len flares from JJ?

There were spontaneous rounds of applause in the cinemas where I saw Phantom Menace and whatever the second one was called.

Premature Force Awakening

Star Wars:The Force Awakens International Trailer 2(spoiler)

Payback says...

"/news/40363/new-force-awakens-trailer-reveals-too-much"

Yeah, not going to watch this in any shape or form because it's going to be hard enough to wait to go see it after the crowds die down without spoilers in the first place.

I'll give you an upvote for the thumbnail.

PS. add a (light spoilers) to the title. People will love you.

Film Theory: Is Luke EVIL in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

artician says...

I doubt he's evil. That would be SUCH a terribly lame and predictable twist. That will kill the film for me immediately.

I'm expecting him to be in self-exile, carrying a weight from killing his father, and to keep himself from the dark side. He's probably just anti-social.

I think everyone is going to get the force in this one. I think they're going to pull a Buffy-finale, and "The Force Awakens" refers to the power to use the Force being spread to every living thing.

That has nothing to do with Luke, (unless his self-exile is some sort of journey culminating in his self sacrifice to facilitate a change of that kind, or something) I just needed a platform to share my theories.

George Lucas on his decision to "break up" with "Star Wars".
