Austin Powers THE MOLE.

Austin Powers THE MOLE.

ChaosEngine says...

You’ve actually picked my favourite gag in the entire Austin Powers series!

Maybe I’m only amused by imminent horrible death...

lucky760 said:

Yeah, I think there might be something wrong with you. This one is objectively funny.

I kid.

Did you like the gag with the steamroller coming at the guy screaming in fear of his imminent death... then they reveal a wide shot where you can see the very slow steamroller is still like 50 yards away?

So many funny jokes, but ^this is one I remember/like a lot.

How to remove moles (Possibly a little unethical...)

History of Loitering | Racist American History

Mordhaus says...

Well, you give a cop a law and they will find someone to pick on.

Except jaywalking, nobody seems to enforce that shit here in Austin. Can't tell you how many times I've had some dumb ass professor or student cross right in front of me, many times with no walk signal and nowhere near a crosswalk. Same thing on Lamar, try to go get a fucking street taco or something and see how many people just meander across a 4 lane road.

I don't disagree with their premise of why these laws were written or how they're historically used, but as a white punk, I was harassed for loitering dozens of times and often threatened with arrest. Because I was usually holding, I usually complied and walked away ASAP instead of arguing, when I didn't it was always far worse, up to and including being put in handcuffs for hours while they decided if I was worth arresting or they should just ticket me....so it's not only used as a racist tool.

Jim Jefferies : Drugs: Fun, But Not Always

Trust me, it has been a topic of discussion. The problem is I am kind of locked into staying here for at least 10 more years. My wife is not going to retire from UT until she is max level on the retirement fund. Plus she is worried about taking care of her parents when they get older, most of her family lives within 100 miles of Austin.

Dude...move to California. You can get oils, tincture, salves, buds, keef, hash, edibles, etc in any concentration you wish...legally, some at the grocery store. I know from experience that it hurts to leave Texas, but trust me, you won't regret it. Just don't go straight to LA or SF.

Baby Driver -- Opening Scene (Amazing car chase)

Mookal says...

Dare I say, ya'll missing the point. It's a getaway movie staring a 2006 Subaru WRX. Not an Austin, not an Audi, not a Jag. The folks acting take a back seat. Pretentious this is not, fun it is.

Is There an Alternative to Political Correctness?

Mordhaus says...

Happens quite a bit in Austin, but you kind of expect it here. A recent example I can recall is some college sjw types heard my wife talking on her phone to her dad about whether or not he got a deer (during last deer season).

They came up and started giving her massive hate, not knowing her dad actually uses all of the deer for food, even makes sausage out of the bits. Thankfully she just gave them the old southern treatment, "Aren't you just all so precious! Bless your hearts!" Then she ignored them. I guessing they probably didn't get the gist of her comeback, but anyone versed in the south will know exactly how hard she laid the smack upon them.

The idea that anyone would chastise(rebuke or reprimand severely) someone they don't know, who were engaged in a normal private conversation (your example) seems insane to me. I find people like that completely offensive.

I've told many an acquaintance (someone i have SOME relationship with) why i might find a term they used ugly/offensive, but NEVER would i "chastise" them. It's unnecessary and usually accomplishes nothing or the exact opposite of what i can only assume ones trying to achieve. I find people who "chastise" as a way to go about it are generally high horse types who think they are better than others in one way or another.

Millennial Home Buyer

Oh, that explains a lot. The closer you get to downtown and to UT, the rent/sale value rises exponentially on houses I wouldn't let my pets live in. I've seen crappy 1940's houses that are falling apart listed for 400k and up that close to UT.

Yeah, Austin is pretty tame. I live in one of the sort of 'bad' areas and we never have had any issues. The closest I've ever come to real trouble is when I walking away from a music venue in south-east Austin a few years back. Three guys asked if I wanted to buy a knife and I, like a total idiot, was like "Sorry, I might have but I spent all my cash inside the club."

It was only after finished walking to my car and left that I realized they were kind of attempting to mug me.

Edit: On the flip side though, unless you live in a district the city keeps the taxes artificially low in (IE, east Austin), you get reamed. Our house is from the late 50's and is valued at 215k, but our yearly property/school taxes run over 4k. Since they just took out another huge bond, I expect next years will be closer to 5.

I stand corrected.

Some of those didn't even look horrible. I just did a quick Zillow search, obviously they don't have every listing, but I thought they were better than that.
I still can't believe what my brother got for his rat nest, but it is under 10 blocks from UT. Location, location, location.

I agree, a bad Austin neighborhood is like a great LA neighborhood. I lived in East Palo Alto for years, so I know bad neighborhoods. ;-)
