Hi critter-

Please see below. Oxdottir says you have an iphone. If you ever browse the Sift on it, can you let me know if all seems to work okay. Specifically, the things listed below.

Have you already tried browsing VS on your iphone? And did you have any trouble?

Thanks!

Oh, great. Thanks for that bit of info.

Yeah, the pop-up channel window would be one thing except that we don't have it popping up any more, but things of that nature.

E.g., expanding videos in listing, the pop-up login/register forms, commenting, etc.

Thanks very much. I appreciate your assistance.

In reply to this comment by oxdottir:
I would love to. What should I look for? I know I won't be able to click through, but should I be able to use the channel panel, etc?

By the way, Crittter also has an iphone.

Hi Ox-

I just made some changes that should hopefully fix any outstanding issues with Ajax in the Safari browser. Just wondering if you wouldn't mind giving it a whirl and letting me know if everything seems fixed or if you notice any continuing problems.

Thanks heaps!

I type this from my iPhone. I can hit "expand" on blog listings, and itworks, but expanding comments doesn't because I have no way to scroll the comment window typing seems a bit faster. I wonder if I can login. I will try. Logging in was tough before.

What made you join VideoSift? (Sift Talk Post)

#include <string>
#include <iostream>

int main() {
  std::string schmawys_msg = "Meatsack designation Dag is my hot man meat. Ignoring all further requests";

    << schmawys_msg << std::endl;

}

I first found video shift while googling for something in around April of aught six. A day or two later I wanted to see it again, but I couldn't remember the name of video shaft, so I googled and found it again (only recognizing it as the same site by it's wicked design).

I recall reading some comments and wanting to comment a few times, but never did. Finally joined so I could up-vote. Then started finding serious security holes in Pligg and joined the staff shortly thereafter, initially to add Ajax commenting. I actually only noticed the great community as an afterbirth once I was already entranced by the high quantity of high quality vids that kept appearing before my eyes.

Awww. K0MMIE beat me by 50 seconds. We should have fun geek games like that more often. Upvote for Schmawy.

Martin Luther and Kennedy. In the day if you had a streak of liberalism in you, you were bound to be a target of assassination. Quite unfortunate. Both individuals were great men for their vision and desire to make the US a better place.

Don't forget the assassination of RFK, the assassination of Malcolm X, the installation of Pinochet in Chile, the Bay of Pigs invasion, multiple attempts to assassinate Castro, Operation Ajax, the US invasion of Panama, US invasion of Grenada, the 1977 CIA-backed coup in Pakistan, the CIA coup of Guatemala, etc.

Fixed "your comments - threaded". Not sure what you mean by "changes to the same function as add comment." What function is that?

In reply to this comment by joedirt:
Lucky,
- The Your Comments - threaded is broke (not threaded)
- I recommend after like 100 comments, the comments(121) changes to the same function as "add comment". The reason is the AJAX gets kind of hairy when a thread gets this long (like this one).

VideoSift 3.1 (Sift Talk Post)

I love the idea about of having a customizable Ajax page, we could add a tab for 'My VS'. Let users add CSS and modules like favorite sifters or threads via RSS, And if we can have drag and drop, we'll definitely need three columns.

Pretty please?

VideoSift 3.1 (Sift Talk Post)

rembar says...

Maybe let us reorder and customize the boxes on the right, so we could access the top 15 videos from SiftTalk, for example.

Drag and drop reorganization, through Ajax a la Facebook application list, would be hugely useful, as doing it by any other method would be complicated at best for regular sifters and impossibly difficult for newbies.

Also, not to beat a dead horse, but it would be nice if another look could be taken at comment voting, to either make it have some weight or to remove it altogether.

I'm against removing the time stamping saying how long ago something was published, but it might be nice to include an actual date alongside the current stamp.

One Laptop per child

dgandhi says...

I did G1G1, it has not arrived yet, but it does come with a flash player in the browser(stripped down firefox), it has flash-block, so it's an extra click to run, but it should be no problem, except for bandwidth.

The countries that the machines are going to now have net infrastructure, so they will be, by and large, online, but many of the countries that this is targeted at will have a local, or a request/cache system which will allow web pages, and e-mail, but no ajax or streaming.

I don't think they have 1 Billion orders yet.

If you are interested you can run the system software, called sugar, there are a few live boot CDs with the whole XO sugar system installed, so that you can check it out without an XO, or installing anything on your machine.

infinate loop in VS 3.0? (Sift Talk Post)

blankfist says...

Sorry, dgandhi, I overlooked the script.js in HttpWatch. I found it this time. I'm not sure what the problem is, to be exact, because I don't have the means (nor the patience )to properly recreate it, but it seems like it may have a bit to do with DOM manipulation taking longer than necessary before your browser is timing out. From a bit of quick research, the getElementsBySelector() function is known to walk the DOM a lot, and it's advised to use it sparingly.

I'm not an expert on this, I just know enough to get into a bit of trouble here when looking over anything ECMA-Script - and AJAX combined with CSS isn't my area of expertise. Have you tried denying Firefox's request to kill the script (keep the script running)? If not, give that a try to see if shortly thereafter the events are properly finishing. Sorry. I wish I could be of greater service. I know Flash times out after 10 seconds or so, and it is possible for a script to NOT FINISH running once it times out. It's rare, but possible.

Embeddable Playlists Anyone? (don't click - just a picture) (Sift Talk Post)

blankfist says...

Not sure you'd want to do it in Flash, however, because it looks like you want to have the whole thing be embedable, and I don't think it would be possible (or at the very least not a good idea) to try and embed a Flash player inside a Flash file like that. Could prove to be super buggy if it did work.

If you want to use Ajax, you may run into some issues with running javaScript from a restricted page, such as myspace. It's worth looking into, for sure. I've only built Flash versions of embedable players, myself.
