Man, Videosift is so not iphone friendly (Blog Entry by oxdottir)

oxdottir says...

I don't mean to be unreasonable, and I admit to tons of ignorance ("Ajax functionality" is a mystery to me). My largest hope when I first posted this was that someone like joedirt would have said, "oh, hey, you mean you didn't readjust the frobnatz setting?" and that would have made it so I could post comments. Having understood the flash issue, I'm not even thinking of that.

If you live in the SF bay area, I could loan you my phone, but that's mostly said tongue in cheek, and I don't really expect much iphone-based development until February when the dev kit comes out, and then I expect all sorts of things to happen--maybe not at videosift, but in general.

Rather difficult to guess without tinkering with the phone myself to investigate, but my best uninformed guess would be that it has to do with the Ajax functionality of the site. I wonder if there's a way to turn off JavaScript in Safari on the iPhone. If so, maybe it would work that way?

Sorry, oxdottir. It's unfortunately impossible to debug the site on different browsers to which we don't have access.

In Case You Missed It, Web 2.0 is Bad Now (Blog Entry by dotdude)

Sift almost unusable on ubuntu O_o (Sift Talk Post)

MINK says...

lol i thought this said "ubuntu almost unusable"

i get occasional "this script has timed out" and the video preview ajax button doesn't show up, then clicking thumbs takes me to whole page. firefox on G4 mac.

i think it's degrading nicely, it's just it shouldn't be degrading?

Yeah, it looks like there's a little buggery at work with the Ajax works. I'll try to have it corrected it today.

That link in the profile stats is pretty obscure, so we will probably add another one in the main profile area, like next to your avatar.

A new sidebar will be added to the main blog tab page as well. Still not sure what it will contain, but maybe top 15 member blogs based on most blog entries or blog posts being viewed right now?

just testing how i felt about it, and checking out Lucky's sweet ajax, that's all.

I felt shit about it btw.

In reply to this comment by mlx:
Mink, you just voted down a comment you didn't like. Earlier you said "If a comment gets lots of downvotes, that makes me want to read it MORE, so perhaps you just wanted to call attention to it, not sure. You're using the new system, yet you seem so vehemently against it.

Isn't that a contradiction?

Safari Web 1.0 :( (Sift Talk Post)

looris says...

mmmh I've noticed an ajax bug here with firefox on a mac.

if the page address is without # it works okay. but if for example I make a comment and the # appears in the address, no, then it doesn't work anymore and reloads the page.

not heavily tested.

Suggestion: Filter list. (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

Ant was talking about the list of channel filters in your account preferences. Fixed that.

Dirt is talking about channels on video submit which were already ordered alphabetically... just mistakenly not upon Ajax expansion. Fixed that.

Welcome to VideoSift 3.0 (Sift Talk Post)

winkler1 says...

Looking good guys. One issue with the AJAX'y stuff: some things come up inline (show comments / expand video), but others don't. For instance, I was watching an expanded video and clicked New Comment, was surprised to have it navigate away (and lose my place).

Could there be some visual vocabulary to indicate which links will go to a new page, and better obey the Law of Least Astonishment?

Dealing with Queue Rot in VS 3.0 (Sift Talk Post)

joedirt says...

So again, are you given a queue or front page with 10 or 30 videos? Or must you click on a title to ajax load up the embed?

If you view a page of 30 videos and all 30 embeds load up, are those all considered viewed? (How does this work with FLashBlock? Because I believe from serverside, you might have that as loaded, but in the webbrowser it was no loaded at all.

Quick video submission check (Sift Talk Post)

Quick video submission check (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

This is actually a feature in v3.0. An Ajax button is below the embed code box that will validate the code for syntax and duplication (without reloading the page).

No date for the release yet, but we're getting closer every day.
