Patricia Heaton (Everyone Luvs Raymond) fails gameshow math

handmethekeysyou says...

>> ^Stormsinger:
Actually, it's not that she's not bright...she appears to be just lazy. Since she -did- manage to work it out after the "easy way" failed.

That's actually the main reason that (most) people are bad at math. They just don't put in the effort to figure it out. That starts at a young age and continues throughout school and adulthood. As math gets harder in school, people get left behind and are convinced it's a confusing subject. It's very straightforward (at least through high school) if you have a grasp of logic and reason and you put in the mental energy to work through problems. I'm sure you've noticed though that a large number of people have no interest in such things.

Atheism as Congruence

Mysling says...

This series reminded me very much of the graphic novel Blankets by Craig Thompson, detailing his own journey from childhood to adulthood, and the effect his transition to atheism had on his view on life.

I highly recommend it to anyone, and hope some of you are curious enough to look it up

That being said, I never stumbled upon congruism before, but I am really fascinated by the concept now. Would upvote twice if I could

Funny how it still seems to be that men have to be loathed when they use masturbation toys when for women it's like a rite of passage to adulthood.

That's because men are born with two perfect masturbation toys attached to their arms. Buying an additional one is just a waste of money.

Yeah, but toys are fun! Why use just your hands when there's so much else to stick it in, on, around, under, through and up.

Michael Jackson is Dead, Joins Farrah Fawcett (News Talk Post)

Doc_M says...

"Surprising"? No.
"Shocking"? Yes.

The man's music was a downright phenomenon of talent.

I hope and I pray now for his young children and who will raise them.

Coincidentally, my mother wrote her master's thesis in child psychology on Michael and she is--or at least was--convinced he is innocent of the crimes he was accused of. She attributes his odd behavior to a short and unfortunate childhood which led to a seriously unique and bizarre adulthood, and thus to an inability to recognize what "adult" behavior--as opposed to "childish" behavior--should be. I don't know what I think and I don't care what I think anymore. God knows, and Michael is now in the arms of His mercy and justice.

its *dead but i still wanna talk about how circumcision has its origins in its necessity for the survival of an earlier culture in their particular environments. of course it gets adopted by religion to promote such practices (like certain diets, bathing or birthing rituals) of course the practice is irrelevant in industrialized nations with access to sanitary living conditions and health practice but it sticks, it becomes a part of the culture and cut or uncut becomes the accepted norm. all parents are faced with the choice and will go with what they feel will help their child fit into their culture. male circumcision is that standard practice in a judeo-christian society, US moms spend their adulthood being intimidated by foreskin and told its unclean until they learn otherwise, if the childs father is uncircumcized the child probably will be to. and in other communities if a little girl doesnt get circumsized she will be ostracized and rejected by potential mates. its all culturally relative. all parents do what is the socially acceptable/necessary thing to do.

The Worlds Smartest Man Works in a Bar (Fascinating)

peggedbea says...

im annoyed with this talk of a terrible past and how his early circumstances are supposed to have some bearing on what he is or is not able to achieve in adulthood. bullshit. this is a measure of mental/emotional strength which is far more important than an arguably arbitrary number. i could knock back hard knocks stories until we all fucking cry, it is no excuse for my current laziness and boredom.

creativity and emotional strength are far more inspriring/admirable qualities, says i.

also all this "HE WORKS IN A BAR" talk is pfft. i used to deliver pizza and sling coffee, didnt make any more or less useful as a human. vocation is not equal to worth.

the stuff about proving the existance of god with binary logic sounds too much like some schizofrenics i have known and loved. he should get that checked out.

ass.

I'm scared that I'm getting apathetic about all this crap. A year ago, I would've been fuming. But now, I've been lied to enough that things seem to be taking their normal course. Don't get me wrong, I realize that course is one marred with corruption, lies, and deceptions, but they don't get my blood boiling anymore.

What's happening to me? Is this what adulthood is like? Maybe I need more coffee.

What part do you play in the VS community? (Mystery Talk Post)

dgandhi says...

I'm the middle-class socialist brat, who actually stuck with it into adulthood, and kept going farther left. I'm likely to became absolutely incensed with any abuse of state power, and I'm also reasonably annoying about being an anti-theist.

That said I like to think that I say interesting things, or at least say things interestingly, and so while I do get under some peoples skin on occasion, even people I piss off seem to appreciate me at least some of the time.

Abortion is a perfectly valid form of birth control. If she didn't have such an evil coon of a mother she would be taking no such chance.

Sarah Palin's daughter pregnant!

swampgirl says...

So every mistake you make in your life you can blame your incompetent parents failure to raise you to make every decision correct.

The moment that 17 year old girl decided to have sex..she took the chance that act could produce a child and hasten her adulthood responsibilities. Children can be held accountable for their actions.

The girl is 17. Childhood over. Not her parent's fault. She rebelled against her parent's advice.
