I find this stuff very interesting, will be visiting that site. Something I noticed about native Spanish speakers is that when they speak English they put a slight "eh" sound at the beginning of English words that start with "st" or "sp", as no Spanish words start with those consonants. So they pronounce the word "Spanish" as "ehSpanish". Which leads to Ricky Ricardo over-correcting and trying to perfect his accent by removing the "e" sound where it actually belongs, like "(ex)splaining" and "(e)xactly".

Presumably you reboot something because you want you capitalise on some combination of the styles, plots, essence and fans of the thing you're rebooting. So if it becomes unrecognisably Star Trek then fans won't be impressed.

But this looks to be going in a different direction than not just Star Trek but the first two films of the reboot as well. To me it could have been any sci-fi action adventure film because nothing stood out that distinguished it as Star Trek (the old or new definition).

Also, who the hell buys Pegg as Scotty really? I love Pegg, but everything about his character is jarring - he's Simon Pegg doing a funny accent and laying the slapstick on far too thick for comic relief only to pop up in an action scene 2 minutes later.

Edit: Maybe because it's a different director? Edit2: Who apparently directed some Fast & Furious films - that makes a lot of sense.

I suspect that accent is so cringe-worthy because most Americans have never heard a real accent and associate an Irish one with Lucky Charms. So any reasonably accurate accent is going to be misconstrued as British.

That said, they certainly picked a good character actor to play an insane vampire.

They couldn't have got an actual Irish actor to play the vampire? I cringed when I heard that accent.

His voice is amazing, especially when he's faking a Russian accent!

Can't take those with the Boston/Jersey/NY accent as being authentic.

It's a terrible David Attenborough accent, but when he first sees the pigeon is genuinely hilarious.

Why tag as Finns? This is English and Scottish accents. Funny though.

If that's a real Boston accent, I definitely never made it that deep into Boston.

I guess basic rules of etiquette aren't part of his AR self-training. He holds his fork like a caveman and when joined by his date he doesn't even bother to stand up to greet her.

Where's that accent from that he's trying to cover up? Can't place it.

Incidentally, I'm pleased with the production. The guy got my accent wrong, but the woman playing my wife really got the reactions well.

I would upvote for the navigator's epic accent alone!
