Marvel Studios' Black Widow - Official Teaser Trailer

Sagemind says...

For those who are interested:

The Red Guardian
"Alexi Shostakov was one of the Soviet Union's most acclaimed test pilots whose heroism caught the attention of the KGB. They arranged for Shostakov to wed Natasha Romanoff , a top agent of the secret Red Room Academy, later known as the Black Widow. Intending to manipulate Natasha years after the couple’s marriage the KGB arranged for a rocket Shostakov was supposedly piloting to exploded, giving the appearance of his apparent death.

Shostakov’s “death” drove Natasha deeper into the Red Room’s service, although, in reality Shostakov, was alive and recruited into the KGB. He was given the identity of the Red Guardian, a costumed heroic guise first assigned to Aleksey Lebedev (aka Volodymyr Fomin) during World War II by Soviet Premier Josef Stalin, but the costume had become the property of the Red Room. Through the Red Guardian, the Russians hoped to hone a national hero to represent them just as Captain America (Steve Rogers) represented the USA. During Shostakov’s training the Black Widow, who was again using her maiden name turned against her superiors, and defected to the USA, becoming romantically involved with Hawkeye (Clint Barton) of the Avengers."

Edison was a well known patent and credit thief.

I find it ridiculously suspicious that he "invented" the phonograph shortly after the invention of the exceptionally similar paleophone. Charles Cros submitted a sealed envelope containing a letter to the Academy of Sciences on April 30, 1877 detailing the design of the paleophone, the first device capable of recording and playing the recording back as sound, later that year an account of his invention was published on October 10, 1877 a month before Edison claimed credit, then Edison patented it the next year..
Suspicious to say the least if you consider how many other inventions he "invented" after someone else had already done so....like the light bulb.

Edison always seemed like the Trump of late 1800's inventors imo, constantly taking credit for other people's work, patenting their inventions without even crediting them, and was a total shady but successful business man thanks to a total lack of ethics.

Wizard of Menlo Park? Please. Just another backstabbing rat from New Jersy if you ask me.

I'm team Tesla all day long. ;-)

Fun Fact: Menlo Park, NJ (not CA)

In November 1877, one of Edison’s first major inventions at Menlo Park was the phonograph, which was a basic machine that allowed a person to speak into a diaphragm that was attached to a pin that made indentations on a paper wrapped around wood. The first words Edison successfully recorded on the phonograph were “Mary had a Little Lamb”. By 1878, this invention was known all around the world and Edison soon earned the title of “The Wizard of Menlo Park.

Dad was a big fan Edison.

If there's an Academy Awards for political videos - this should win it. Masterfully done. Reminded me a bit of the long tracking shot in Scorsese's Good Fellas.

Why we need a new education system

transmorpher says...

Indeed, criticism is easy.

I'm personally a huge fan of the Khan Academy's method. That and also paying the teachers a massive salary.

That will of course never happen, because the rich people in charge are stupid, and they also want the general public to be stupid so that they can easily gain their votes.

Anyway, seems like the next generation of workers will all be robots, so perhaps we should all be learning how to run for our lives. ;-)

While I agree with everything he says, he's pointing out a lot of problems without giving solutions.

To improve a system you need to introduce a better method, and ideally a way to transition to it; it's not enough to point out problems with the current one. I'm not saying it's not valuable to point out problems, I'm just saying it's not enough.

Intellectually, I agree, but this is America, where violent murder and abuse are considered wholesome entertainment, but an exposed nipple is cause for outrage and fits. Any barely sexual term is considered inappropriate for pre adults....unless it's selling something. That's why Morningwood academy changed their name.

I do know what a wet dream is, but I never thought it was particularly offensive. Not sure if it is any more inappropriate than using a name promoting violence or war.

I watched the movie only about 10 or so years ago. But I clearly remember thinking to myself it was the funniest movie ever at the time... and then I went on a sort of classic comedy watching spree with the Naked Guns & Police Academies & Monty Python.... the latter series really tickled me pink... and are regular YouTube clips rewatch... My wife doesn't get Monty though.

I applaud this woman for standing up for the rights of all US citizens, at great inconvenience to herself. There was no reason to arrest her, so she was actually kidnapped and held against her will. How is this scenario not part of basic police academy training?

The Cluster Fuck At The Oscars For Best Picture

sanderbos says...

So that's definitely the case, the envelope contained the letter for best actress
Emma Stone - La La Land

That is why Warren Beatty did a triple take on opening the envelope, but there was a name of a movie there so he decided to read it out. Or actually, he had his co-host read it out....

(but het later took responsibility for his part, all that I type is in the clip)

So the accountants messed up big time. Like as someone would say 'huge'.
Guess it's just more of Hollywood accounting...

I love that it is La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz (the guy with the beard, a name I had to look up), who has to take charge and correct the situation, while the Academy staff is in complete shock on stage....

Also: Missed opportunity, the La La Land people should have said 'it was an honor just being nominated'....

Jinx said:

Dunno. Sounds like they were given the wrong envelope.
