Top 10 Most Paused Movie Moments

newtboy says...

Did anyone else notice that in the Wizard of Oz one it's obviously been changed and was not a 'giant bird' in the original, you can see through the tree the bird is in front of in the HD version and it's not in the same place as the 'hanging munchkin', there's just no way it's the same scene unaltered. I debunk their debunking!

Are Star Trek and Star Wars Mutually Exclusive? (Geek Talk Post)

Sagemind says...

Oh, and books, lots of books.

Read to them lots and let them see you reading - that's how they will learn and not know they're learning.

All the good stuff from Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, Wizard of Oz.
As they start to read, get all the early readers based on super heroes, star wars and all the geek stuff. Make sure you stick to variety or they'll get bored and you'll lose them.

Oz the Great and Powerful - Official Trailer #2

How Jaws was Restored on Blu-Ray

probie says...

I made it a rule not to buy any movies older than 2005 on Blu-ray simply because most movies would just be upscaled versions of their DVD counterparts with some possible cleanup involved. *Unless* it was a classic and went through a complete restoration, The Wizard of Oz as an example. Watching that on Blu-ray is just phenomenal. (Except for that rogue hair that's STILL stuck in the camera at the end. Don't get me started on that....)

I'll probably pick this up at some point, after the price drops.

Pink Floyd - Mudmen (de La Vallée)

Trancecoach says...

I like the Pink Floyd soundtracks ('La Vallee' and 'More'), mostly because it was music of an era and so unlike anything before or since...

(Little known 'rumour' is that the 23-minute epic on the B-side of the Meddle album, Echoes, was composed to serve as a soundtrack to the final sequence of Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" -- entitled Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite. A different song was ultimately chosen for the film, but one can, if one was so inclined, cue up the song at the title card for this sequence and notice how nicely it fits with the psychedelic imagery of this portion of the movie.... Not so unlike Dark Side & the Wizard of Oz).

Groundhog Day: I Am A God

rottenseed says...

The really odd thing about this movie, is that it gets better the more you watch it.>> ^dag:

It's probably the "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Wizard of Oz" of our era. People will be watching it every year for the next century.

Short explanation of the Slow Economy, and it's not Obama

chingalera says...

Per the title: Question: Why would we blame a president anyway?
The policies of a president are apparently dictated by his handlers (think Wizard of Oz). This current administration does not have to work too hard to convince an already somnambulant public that his shit does or does not stink. He looks good on camera, he's not white (the traditional shade of presidential skin), and his jingoistic lingo flows forth like cow-dooty.

Eerie... the whole video is in perfect sync with "Dark Side of the Moon".

HAHAHAHAHA!! I'll have to try that out. It didn't really work too well when I tried syncing it with the Wizard of Oz years ago. Thanks for giving me a project for the evening Fletch!

The Making of Tron Legacy

Young Flynn and CLU were surprisingly decent, I thought. Obviously CG actors will always have some flaws that betray them for what they are, but I think the only noticeable flaw for CLU was the mouth, especially when it was open.
It's called suspension of disbelief. If we could do it for the Wizard of Oz, or Star Wars, we can do it for CLU.

No, I couldn't, because every time he opened his mouth it screamed "I'M BAD MOTION CAPTURE!"
Look at Avatar
Look at Benjamin Button
Those had utterly SUPERB facial animation that let you forget you were watching CG faces. CLU and young Flynn did not, hence they were a major let down.

Readily admit that CLU's face was a bit off-putting, but overall I loved how the film was a true continuation of the original story instead of a typical Hollywood reimagining (bleh I hate that word). Long-term story arcs FTW
