World Wildlife Fund Uses 9/11 Attack in Ad

paul4dirt says...

“WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication. It is our understanding that it was a concept offered by an outside advertising agency in Brazil. The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured. We strongly condemn the messages and the images portrayed in this ad. On behalf of WWF, here in the US and around the world, we can promise you this ad does not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of our organization.” http://www.worldwildlife.org/who/media/press/2009/WWFPresitem13540.html

but apparently, the Brazilian arm of the organisation might have authorised it (at least the picture) after all http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/sep/03/wwf-911-tsunami-ad

hmm i dunno, either way it's a terrible advertisement.

Keith Olbermann: Rush Limbaugh Compares Obama To Al-Qaeda

shiner_man says...

>> ^Trancecoach:
This tete-a-tete interface between various media figures (Olbermann, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Sanchez, etc.) is beginning to smack of a sort of WWF kind of "threat-down" when wrestlers used to taunt their opponents before a match with Mean Gene Okerlund. Anyone else?

I am sorry that it has taken me this long to respond to you and tell you that your "threat-down" remark is such a complete display of internet awesomeness. It really points to the absolute theatrics of these cable news figures today.

This is definitely fake like WWF.

Yeah, it's not real. Like say, oh I don't know, MOVIES!

I still don't get why people have such a negative reaction to pro wrestling because it's fake, but somehow movies are a perfectly OK form of entertainment even though they are just as scripted and fake.

They are both forms of entertainment. I know, you know, and anyone with have a brain knows they are fake. But no-one seems to be compelled to point out the fact that movies are fake every time a movie clip is posted here.

Earth Hour 2009

qualm says...

http://www.earthhour.org/home/

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

Wrestler gets mobbed takes on fans

14555 says...

He does ask the security guards to do their job. They should not have let the crowd get so close. The crowd does seem out for blood. When I was a kid I went to a few wrestling matches. It was Stampede wrestling in Calgary. The crowds (including myself) went crazy. There were a lot of fights afterwards.

After one show some friends and I went to the back of the arena to see the wrestlers. There were "good" guy wrestlers and "bad" guy wrestlers hanging around. I saw a guy called Honky Tonk Wayne, he was a "bad" guy. (he went on to the WWF as The Honky Tonk Man and did quite well) He looked like Las Vegas Elvis with attitude. As a joke I went up to him for an autograph.

"Hey Honky Tonk, can I get an autograph?"

"FUCK OFF KID!" he snarled

"Honky Tonk, didn't you used to charge kids for your autograph?" asked his buddy

"I did, but the little fuckers wouldn't pay a buck!" was his reply

My eyes wide open and my jaw dropped, I slunk back to my friends.

I'll admit it took me a few years before I realized he was one of the greatest show men on earth. He never broke character. He played the bad ass right to the end.

My point being, both the wrestler and the audience participate in the play. Some of the wrestlers are more "method" actors. And like I said before, I don't follow wrestling now so I don't know what Chris Jericho's character is.

Angry Cat Bites the Hand that Feeds

That thar cat is clearly playing: no tucked back ears, slapping but still giving time for the owner to move their hand. I've known cats like that, they're just very vocal and rough.. They're sort of the WWF wrestlers of the cat world.

Cops brutalize black dude

NYPD Ravages Cyclist in Time Square

ShakyJake says...

I wonder why he would do that. Maybe I have more faith in cops than the rest of you, but would he really have done a take-down on that guy without a reason? Those two cops standing in the middle of the street like that checking each passing biker almost seems like they were looking for someone or something specific. I don't agree with him just going all WWF on him without telling him to stop first, but I guess we can be thankful he didn't decide to just taser him off the bike as he went by, right?
