The "Hipster" Identity Explained - (TED Talk)

kymbos says...

Yeah, how dare he make us wait to build an idea and give it context. I hate him.>> ^legacy0100:

Wow... This actually got sifted through??
I found myself being irritated by the terrible editing job and that he does not say anything new or thought provoking until 9 minutes into his lecture, only that the point he makes doesn't really tie in with the first 9 minutes of his lecture.
But really, it's the editing that gets me the most. Maybe they were trying to cover up his long pauses in between his dialogue and make the video short. Either case, it really looks choppy.

From mach-20 glider to humming bird drone

Yes, because developing military systems that can reach any point on this planet in less than sixty minutes while carrying "more payload than just a camera" is the perfect answer to her question what should be your ultimate goal to work on if you knew you couldn't fail. What about world peace? ;-) I know, i'm some sort of hippie...

Nevertheless: One of the best TED talks i've seen so far and besides the military agenda a great motivator. Should be shown in schools to encourage young minds to keep an open mind towards engineering and science careers instead of just focusing on business and management positions.

Man Flies Like a Bird Flapping His Own Wings

and his blog as above... strange... i mean, the TED talk where the guy flys a bird means the right things are known in principle to do this mechanically... but why does it look so fake !!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

you could certainly fake this all with 7 months to build a prop and edit the videos... indeed, well played sirs

Guy Pearce is the best. Otherwise, I have no idea what most of you people are on about. Is this some kind of cult book being made into a film, that has you guys shitting all over something that looks pretty good?

Weyland-Yutani was the company Ripley worked for in the Alien movies. They were the shadow company responsible for terraforming the planet where the Aliens were discovered (by Humans, anyways) and the creation of the android Bishop. They also played some smaller role in the shitty AVP/Predator movies.

This video is a promo for the movie Prometheus, a prequel of sorts to the Alien franchise. It's going to be pants creaming.

I agree. I think this was a very well delivered monologue. I wouldn't call it hammy. I wouldn't say the special effects held it back. I'm intrigued about the story and the character.

A real TED talk would be titled "The Impact of Technology on Society in the 21st Century: From the Android phone to Androids, and Beyond" and would be given by an unassuming but compelling professor of some sort, rather than a businessman intent on making himself a physical manifestation of pure hubris.
But, good idea for a viral marketing campaign.

They're positioning him like a Steve Jobs or Craig Venter: the guys who can make the future work years before anyone else can figure it out.

Ah, a soulless sociopath.

(Jobs, not Venter. They really don't belong in the same sentence or thought process.)

There's a bit.ly link shown briefly in the background. Can anyone make it out? To me it looked like bit.ly/lgwQvj or bit.ly/lgwOvj
Edit: Nevermind, it's http://bit.ly/tgwQvj, and it just likes to apple.com Boooring.

Wait, what? I'm not sure that's exactly boring if you think about it. Wayland Yutani is pretty notorious for being downright evil as far as a corporation, to somehow link it to Apple is some pretty ugly commentary about how Apple has won over the world's consumers with it's beautiful white, shiny, smooth and slightly rounded products while at the same time breaking down doors gestapo style, working people to death, and ultimately being somewhat reminiscent of the opposite of what they try to portray themselves as...
