The Inequality Speech About The Rich, TED Won't Show You?
Here's what I don't get in this argument... How does raising the income tax (taxing money taken home and spent on whatever you want) harm business investments and their economic benefits when any money spent on them are TAX DEDUCTIBLE? I would think that a higher income tax would encourage "some rich guy" to invest his money in his business rather than taking home the money and paying the higher tax.
To be clear: I'm not saying it's right (it's mostly not), I'm saying it's not self-evidently crazy. I.e. if you're going to argue against it, you should talk about why it's wrong, or - better yet - show empirical evidence against the idea. That would be a TED talk.
The Inequality Speech About The Rich, TED Won't Show You?
Bad TED talk. Poor loser. Spoiled rich kid. Hired a PR firm to promote his bad TED talk.
His family owns (and he is now CEO of) Pacific Coast Feather Company, which has yearly profits in the hundreds of millions, and sources most of its products from China.
Banned TED Talk -- TYT
Some details TYT failed to mention:
After each TED talk, the live audience rates the speech. This talk received mediocre marks according to the link messenger posted above. Apparently because the point he was making, however valid, was not made well and didn't introduce anything really novel.
Also, only certain TED talks are published. They have always been selective, choosing to publish only the best. This one did not qualify regardless of any politics involved.
EDIT: Also, he hired a PR firm to draw attention to situation, essentially handing the originating source a 'hot' story.

Here's the controversial talk.
Thanks, I should have linked to that in the first place.
The Inequality Speech About The Rich, TED Won't Show You?
It's a shame, I would've liked to see a ~20 min TED talk on this topic, done with the level of quality I've come to expect from a TED talk.

TED Talk: Einstein the genius parrot
Yea, cant have the accomplishments of a bird with a pea-sized brain seem too great.

I don't know if memorization directly translates to intelligence...
The parrot remembered a lot of commands, but I doubt it actually knows what the conversation is about. At least not according to the way it's being demonstrated here at least.
Smart is when we see someone or something actively solving a problem at hand, which requires assessment of situation, planning, and execution. The parrot is in this video isn't doing much planning to solve a solution. The solution was given to it a long time ago by the trainer by saying a certain phrase, and all it does is saying those exact phrases. Which in itself is very impressive, but still I don't know if that counts as being 'smart'.

The patent troll reminds me of someone I know who goes around thinking that the world somehow owes him something...

The "Hipster" Identity Explained - (TED Talk)
>> ^kymbos:
Yeah, how dare he make us wait to build an idea and give it context. I hate him.
Yeah, how great was that when he just rounded up all common existing stereotypes of a hipster? Or when he kept talking about himself and how hipster he is, which doesn't really make any difference to the credibility of his argument.
Some of what he said during that 9 minute may relate to his main point later on. But when I say 'some', I mean like a minute or two, maximum. And that's being generous as rest of it is just gibberish.
Anyways, interesting point, terrible speech. COOL STORY BRO.
P.S. Oh, and look at those giant teeth!!!
