Bill Nye: Creationism Is Just Wrong!

messenger says...

The answers to all your questions are in the previous post. I'm not interested in arguing logically with you about why I don't want to argue logically with you. I'm personally satisfied you don't understand science and that it's beyond my power to get you to understand that you don't understand. This belief of mine means I don't want to talk science with you anymore. Arguing with you is an infinite recursion loop and I'm stopping it here.

So, if you like, you may read my previous message carefully, if only to understand the impression you have formed on me, and by inference, probably on others as well. I don't care if you accept my opinion about you as correct. I don't need to be right. I don't need to demonstrate that I'm better than you at scientific thought. My ego is not at all wrapped up in anyone's perception.

Now, all that only applies to talking about science. If you want to talk about anything else (though probably not in this thread since this is a scientific one), I'm still here.

shinyblurry said:

You do a lot of talking about what I do and don't know, with vague accusations of not speaking scientifically, or thinking scientifically. Give me a specific example, with a fact based argument backing it up, and we'll talk about it.

I never said I provided enough evidence thus far to convince anyone that the theory of Uniformitarian geology is fundamentally flawed; however I did present many substantive arguments, particularly to bicyclerepairman. You didn't really address any of them, but rather came back with your routine argument from incredulity (how could the scientists be so wrong?). I provided the video to give you a more thorough explanation but you refused to even look at it. If you don't understand the argument then what case do you have against it? What you are saying basically is that while you don't understand the argument, you know what science *sounds* like, so therefore you can dismiss everything I'm talking about. I really don't think you understand it as well as you think you do..so let's talk about it. Show me where you think I'm going wrong. Don't give me a vague generality (you dont use critical thinking) but lay it all out, point by point..since you're a self-proclaimed expert, break it down and make your case.

History of VideoSift Part II (Blog Entry by dag)

Oh, the irony of my old friend @Krupo "scaling back". Huh.

In the spring of 2006, Krupo started flooding my inbox with Sifts, his messages worded as if everyone knew this Internet monument. Clearly, I resented all the linkspam and the only way to stop him was to convince him that I was a regular member and already knew everything that was happening at VS. The only way to do that was to become a member and be here all the time, commenting everywhere and sifting myself.

And I'm still here today, just keeping the wolf from the door.

Ah, @karaidl... He to this day is my favorite commenter of all time. I was quite heartbroken when he started nuking all his witty quips. (That is why we added a time limit on editing your own comments. Alas, it was too late to save all his gold.)

Were he still here he'd be #1 Silver Tongue like fer shur. I just hope he ended up using that big brain to do good.

Quite looking forward to the next in the series. Every time I see the word "Siftpocalypse" I get insta-anxiety. That to me is like TechCrunch to @dag methinks.

Best/Worst Entertainment of 2012 Thread (Cinema Talk Post)

radx says...

I'm always behind the curve by a few months, in some cases even years, but still, here's the short version:

My favorite MOVIE this year was "The Intouchables", hands down. Only the French can come up with such a captivating story.

As for GAMES, well, since I have played just two AAA titles this year, my favorite has to be an indie game, unsurprisingly. "FTL: Faster Than Light" was a blast. Perma death rarely works in favour of a game, but in this case, it became the foundation of the thrill FTL provides.
"Deadlight" was also fun, very stylish, but not extraordinary. And "X Rebirth" was postponed once again, so it'll be my game of the year 2013 instead.

TV was just the same ol', MUSIC as well.

BOOKS is a hard one. Or maybe not. A cursory check of my collection tells me I haven't read a single book that was published this year.

Registering voters at Safeway -- IF you support Romney

At no time did I say "Lana Lang" here was justified or right in doing what she did. As some of the less-testy lefties here admit, she certainly did not act like someone who was caught deliberately trying to do wrong.

What I am saying is, compared to the vote-rigging schemes by taxocrat elected officials and the illegal "granting" of amnesty by His Majesty, liberals have no solid ground to attack voter suppression, which consists of asking for the SAME FUCKING ID used to buy alcohol.

Oh that's right, we're not allowed to criticize The One's SHIT performance in office, because he's (half) Black.

Liberals will always have a ready-made excuse why obamanomics failed, or why no one is investing in this poisoned business climate, or why millions have been added to food stamps and disability, or why tyrants around the world scoff at His Earness' spinelessness. But it's your right to worship at the feet of this fool.

Regarding partisanship, am I inclined to be a little less harsh towards conservative foolishness than liberal foolishness? Of course. Only now, liberal foolishness means the wholesale ruination of the system.

Seriously, American libs, why are you still here? Canada and Europe ALREADY HAVE free health care and all the PC bullshit already set in stone! If I believed as you do, I'd have moved a long time ago.

I'll see your one confused girl attacked by a liberal harpie with these clowns and His Earness' amnesty for one million illegals in June.

Behold the hypocrisy of the partisan.. funny how reality flips upside down depending on the color of the offenders T shirt..
Harpies and cuties aside any reasonably impartial fan of democracy would say this shit CANNOT PASS

Can Wisdom Save Us? – Documentary on preventing collapse.

MilkmanDan says...

Wisdom, logic, and reason are great things. My own personal take on this short clip is that I'd be much more tempted to apply a one-word-label like "alarmist" to it rather than "wise", "logical", or "reasonable".

Every day the nightly news tells me about something that will almost certainly kill me or my loved ones... But I'm still here.

That's the vibe I'm getting from this, so I won't upvote for the time being. Just my take.

A couple of days ago I got to my 4 year anniversary, and I take it for granted most of the time. But it hit me, I can't believe that I'm still here, still enjoying myself and that I still care about this place at all. That's like an eighth of my life for christ's sake!!

Videosift really is absolute gold. Happy Siftiversary @dag

The Religious Mind Is Morally Compromised: Demonstration

shinyblurry says...

Sure. Angels are messangers of God. They still do appear to people from time to time. Scripture seems to indicate that at least some people and all children have guardian angels. Other than that, Christians are not supposed to regard angels. We have a respect for them, as holy servants of the most High, but we don't reverence them, nor are their affairs any of our concern.

>> ^lavoll:
Are you still here, shiny? Can I ask a little more about your beliefs? Like for example angels. How do they fit into your religious activities? Are they important to a ' modern' christian? I ask sincerely :-)

Peter Schiff vs. Cornell West on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360

VoodooV says...

It's just so...sad how he repeatedly rewrites history to fit his twisted view. Free market ended child labor alone? hah!

It's insanity to not agree with dystopianfuturetoday on this. We've got record profits for corporations, all time low taxes for them. Where are the jobs....where are the jobs?

Can anyone fact check what schiff said to the protesters? It appears he's pretty obviously lying when he says gov't takes half of what he earns. but it would be nice to have something to fire back when people say shit like that.

But even if he is true. taxing the uber wealthy at 50 percent may not exactly be horrible. even at 50 percent they still live like sultans. They're still here in the USA. If the tax rate is so horrible, why haven't they left? History has shown that high tax rates don't necessarily kill jobs. Combine that with the history we're living right now that low taxes does NOT create jobs.

If someone pulls a gun on your spouse and says "if you take a step closer, I'll kill them" If you step forward, it's still the gunman's fault if they shoot them. That's what I think of every time a CEO says they might not hire anybody or start firing if they raise taxes. It's still their fault...their responsibility when they hold us hostage like that, not Gov't.

Basic Spiderman 101: With great power, comes great responsibility. And the CEOs have forgotten that.
