It just really isn't a thing in Australia, you can't get shitty at Australia for not following another country's customs, no matter how hard the commercial businesses want us to.

I actually went trick or treating with my kids this year with a family who's mother is from the states, and it went quite well, lots of treats were handed out.

But....

I think it's far better to do Halloween parties in Australia rather than trying the whole trick or treat thing, it'll never be as big as the states, it's just the way it is here.

It'd be like an Englishman getting shitty at another country for not celebrating Guy Fawkes (cool holiday ), or me getting shitty at the US for not celebrating the Melbourne Cup.

As kids we had Halloween parties each year, and they're great. People here are more than happy to do the dress up thing and have spooky goings on, just don't expect people to be ready with lollies if you go out and about.

Pop culture reference is always parody - "gingers have no soul" is very much a south park reference, and while I understand that not everyone will get that, a soul is not something gingers or anyone else has anyway.

The difference is mostly the intent in which a post was written. Almost anything can be seen as parody, but yours was very clearly not, and it didn't even try to say that all people are monkeys, which essentially is true.

There is a clear distinction between black and white people, and black people are specifically monkeys - you don't see that as racist? I mean, really? I realize you might not have meant it willfully racist, but come on? It's pretty obviously over the line.

I think it's fair to make jokes about damn near anything, and sure I'll make a racially based joke in the future too, but that one was not funny, just uncomfortable. I would think that there's a big difference between saying that someone doesn't have a soul and that someone is a monkey too, but that's just me.

As I remember you were not hobbled for that particular comment either, it was a slew of racist comments, which eventually got that done. I agree that it was over the top to hobble you, as it was with spooky blankfist too, but still you should have just said that they were just jokes and what not.

I'm annoyed that people get so up their own ass about these relatively small things and ruin it for the rest of us - you're doing it now with this incessant hounding after other racism, to somehow make your comments less bad. Blankfist did it too when he got hobbled and ruined the lounge for a while, because he couldn't get over it.. eventually he did, which is good. I hope you do too.

Racist remarks can be funny if done right, but it's not easy to do them well, and when they fail they often fail hard. Yours did. Deal with it and move on.

There's a weird memory leak I've been experiencing recently on OSX 10.5 and FireFox. I'm not sure if it's FF or the Mac OS, so I've switched over exclusively to Safari for the time being to see if I can reproduce this issue. I have a feeling it's FF that's causing the issue. Stupid sexy Flanders.


So far, the memory leak hasn't shown up since using Safari exclusively, which leads me to believe this spooky incident is exclusive to FF.
