Infinite Tucker Takes a Dive in a televised race.
Nicola would be named for a person, Tesla is a family name, a company, and a car that spontaneously combusts due to software glitches.

...But... The car is named after a person. >_<
NSA Whistleblower: Government Collecting Everything You Do
Carnivore, which intercepted all of any targets internet traffic without a warrant, was fully implemented by 1997 and has since been replaced with software like NarusInsight that records all internet traffic through any isp....again with no warrant.
If you believe governments aren't capable of seeing everything you've ever done online, you're fooling yourself. There's no such thing as real internet privacy.
This is hardly new, but it remains upsetting.
Slow Mo Guys Fire a WWII Tank and a Big Gun
Frank, the high speed tracking camera guy, sounds a bit like he's got Stephen Hawking's artificial software voice. Kinda weird.

Vox: Why video games are made of tiny triangles
When I started in games, we could create assets with polygons that had more than 3 vertices, as long as it was coplanar. This probably still works because when the switch from software rendering to hardware was going on, even the early cards like the S3 or 3DFX would automatically handle it by converting it into triangles.
Using AI to make realistic faces
I don't want a &$*%ing technical paper. I want a URL where I can download the software. I will buy whatever card they want at any price. I need this.
Tom Cruise Hates Motion Smoothing
RTINGS.com reviews TVs in-depth, and also provide color calibration info (within the Settings, or sometimes hidden menu) for each TV model they review. If your TV is on there, it's worth trying their settings before spending money on a calibration device+software.
There's a whole specialty field called "display calibration" that goes deep, deep down this rabbit hole...
If you are a true video aficionado, you'll get yourself a color meter for a few hundred bucks and do an amateur display calibration on your set.
Tom Cruise Hates Motion Smoothing
There's a whole specialty field called "display calibration" that goes deep, deep down this rabbit hole. And yes, they (Tom Cruise and the guy whose name you can't hear because Tom interrupts him) are correct. Motion smoothing is violating image fidelity. It should be turned off.
We are stuck with 24 frames per second in movies, forever. Peter Jackson tried 48 frames per second with The Hobbit. It failed because it felt like the "soap opera effect".
But in almost all other video contexts, more FPS is better. Obviously in gaming more is better. YouTube supports up to 60 FPS, as does most decent recording software these days.
The blue shift that almost every TV has when on display is also a result of funky default settings. The human eye perceives a blue light as slightly brighter than a full spectrum light with the same intensity. So it works to sell TVs. And when you switch it off the default color scheme, you're first impression will be that the picture looks muted or even yellowish. This is because you are accustomed to seeing way to much blue.
If you are a true video aficionado, you'll get yourself a color meter for a few hundred bucks and do an amateur display calibration on your set.
If you are a video psycho (of if you sell faithful video experiences to an audience like in a theater) you'll hire a professional to come out with a high end spectrophotometer and calibrate each display input properly using a standardized video source.
Can This Change Everything for DJs
it offers nothing new to a DJ's workflow while replacing one failure point with 2 new ones (battery and proprietary RF) and adds another stupid little box that's definitely going to cause problems during setup. DVSs are already a pain in the ass, have compromised sound quality, have latency issues, fail all the time (both user error and software/hardware errors) which is one of the many reasons why almost no touring DJs outside the turntablism/party rock world use them anymore. 99.9% of headliners and locals are USB/SD card and CDJ2000s.
the rane 12 is a much more robust and professional product that fills the same gap as this toy. also, i swear i saw this getting hyped around 5 years ago.
Oh shit! We shoulda consulted the expert. Damn that sucks. Oh well, nothing to see here, boys. Move along.
Kavanaugh: No More Nineties Reboots, Please | Full Frontal
Short answer: yes. 100%.
Long answer:
Well, let's unpack this.
"the acts of a 17 yr old boy"
I did some dumb shit when I was a kid. Nothing major, but I certainly wasn't a choir boy. But this isn't some drunken hijinx. It isn't even some petty crime.
This is an accusation of violent sexual assault.
Now, even then, I'd be willing to grant that people can change. If he'd paid his due, apologised, and proved he had changed, I'd be willing to say that everyone deserves a shot at redemption.
But...
"no other history of repeat offense"
you mean apart from the other two women accusing him of sexual assault?
Finally...
"destroy a career"
Let's cut this bullshit right here. Your career is not "destroyed" if you don't get to sit on the supreme court. I'm a software developer. I'll never work for Google or Apple or Facebook or whatever, but career is doing fine, thanks.
It's the Supreme Court... it should literally be the elite of the elite in legal minds. If you've got two candidates who are identical in all respects except one got slightly better marks in high school, you take that one BECAUSE YOU CAN.
Kavanaugh is clearly not the best available. If nothing else, this process has shown that he is woefully unsuitable for this position. He has constantly lied, deflected and then become hysterical (and yes, I'm using that particular word very deliberately).
But what saddens about this whole thing (and it really shouldn't surprise me at this point) is the hypocrisy of the right. Because it's Trumps pick, they're all "it's just youthful exuberance" and "let bygones be bygones" where you know if the tables were turned and it was a democratic pick who had even a minor misdemeanour they would be screaming from the rooftops.
The funny thing is, I still think that Kavanaugh (whatever I may personally think of the slimy fuck-weasel) deserves the presumption of innocence. If he really was the guy he's made out to be by the right, he would have said "I'm innocent, but of course this should be investigated. I am terribly sorry for this woman. She has obviously been through a traumatic incident, but she has me confused for someone else." and then it would have been investigated, probably nothing would be found (due to the age of the claims and the difficulty of gathering evidence).
He could have handled this with humility, sympathy and dignity.
But he failed every possible test. He has shown himself utterly unfit to be on the supreme court, and quite frankly, he's shown himself to be a poor excuse for a human. Fuck him so very much.
you want the acts of a 17 yr old boy with no other history of repeat offense destroy a career?
If so we are all doomed.

Yanny or Laurel
I hear yanny much more prominently than I hear laurel, but they are both there.
https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/laurel has a MUCH clearer audio than this garbled mess of a youtube video. This is probably an artifact of the audio being multiply compressed by youtube, recording software, etc.
Machine seperates colors
from the yt description:
A Galton board, also known as a bean machine, quincunx or Galton box, was developed by Sir Francis Galton in the 1800 to demonstrate the central limit theorem.
In reality, this machine doesn’t exist. This video is a computer simulation of a “Galton board” with Blender, an open-source 3D computer graphics software.
Firstly, simulation was run with all white balls. When the objects all settled, they assigned each ball a color and ran the program again.
Family Guy S16E18: Millenials -- Who are they?
Back in the day I used to use ProCom software with my modem and got a copy that turned it into ProFuck that turned all the language into something filthy. Ah to be young and easily amused again.
My cyberfriend changed all "cloud" to "butt". Heh.
Happy Halloween 2017! And be glad you aren't his neighbor...
jesus christ some people have to much time on there hands.
I pretty much dissected each zone. It is actually not any feat of programming, but simply utilizing good video effects many people have forgotten about. Under the core of the setup, the lights are mapped in 2d space in a program and then a bit map image or video playing over it can control what the lights look like every second. This is the same software video billboards use (Translating a video or image to lights mapped in a 2d space).
All the person had to do was setup his video files. A very efficent way of doing complex video effects to a pixel based light project. What was great is I saw a lot of old Demoscene (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene) stuff like plasma and color cycling. Brings back memories.
