Man In The Women's Locker Room Is Now The Norm

newtboy says...

IMO, no, it's not JUST her over the top attitude and total lack of manners and self control, it's also her insistence that the business support her and deny the trans woman, clearly thinking her emotional comfort should trump the trans woman's ability to participate fully in society.

It's definitely unreasonable to insist businesses break state and federal laws to provide her a penis free locker room, barring the trans woman from using the facilities. Remember, these are the same people that want to exclude not just trans people, but also gay people from not just locker rooms, but bathrooms, pools, tanning salons, anywhere you might see them partially undressed or they might see you partially undressed. I've seen people take that mentality to the public beach, telling gay men they can't be there because they might see a straight man or boy in shorts and lust after them, and claiming a mild pda (a kiss, hand holding) is illegal.

She had the problem, not the business, not the law. If she wants a penis free locker room, she should build her own.

Now I'll ask you, how is her daughter harmed by seeing a naked flaccid penis? The American puritanical mindset about nakedness is sick. There's nothing wrong with seeing a naked person, it won't hurt you.

bcglorf said:

Honest question for everyone really angry at the lady in the video. Is the problem her manner and attitude alone? That is to ask a second question, do you think it is unreasonable for a parent to not want their young daughter seeing naked penises?

I've no doubt they would've been using some portion of "we don't need no education / we don't need no thought control" to go along with whatever pro-Instagram visuals were being displayed. Implying Insta will help you free yourself or something. That song is a depressing examination of how the mid-20th century school system, and society in general, tended to destroy free thought and keep the poor docile and accepting of their lot. I don't see any positive way for a corporate behemoth bent on keeping you focused on tripe and bullshit to use that song.

psycop jokingly says...

I mean this guy has clearly been the victim of a crime. And I think as a victim of that crime he has the right to protect his property.

And as a part of protecting his property he's obviously entitled to pick deterent for those who would do him harm. It's clear he should have the right to decide that deterent without limit. In a well adjusted society we let everyone, individually, decide how they want to hurt people they don't like. There is no way this could be bad.

And to protect his property he gets to harm, or harm peoples bodies. Nobody would argue this is wrong. It's only right of course that those people, who upon having their persons harmed have been the victim of a crime. And I think as a victim of that crime they have the right to cause any harm they see fit to those who have harmed them. There is no way this could be bad.

The only sensible way to proceed is everyone hurting anyone in anyway they find personally justifiable without law or concensus. Otherwise it's just chaos out there!

On the other hand he did get the autosad piano music in first, so you know, he basically wins.

Also maybe get insurance and take reasonable steps to protect yourself like taking the toolbag in the house? I get that nobody sees it coming the first time, but if it's an absolute epidemic of crime maybe word would get around?

Why should college be free

newtboy says...

After 25 years it's forgiven? Only if you've paid every single payment in full and on time for 25 years without a single late, deferred, or partial payment ever which would leave no balance....so I call bullshit. My 75+ year old mother in law is still paying hers.

But @bobknight33 is anti education, so not a surprise he's uneducated on the facts here.

Jr College is about $1000 for a full year, that's what's going to be free, not Stanford and Harvard. These credits usually transfer, so successful students get freshman and sophomore year cheap then can go to an expensive four year university for only two years, unsuccessful students don't waste the time and money. I just kept going to Jr college to learn for 10+ years because I didn't care about a diploma, just the knowledge. I studied under some of the highest ranked teachers in America for pennies.
Even welders and plumbers need education, Bob. I know, I was a welder/fabricator before I retired. Physics and math were tools I used daily.

Such stupidity, Bob. You think college isn't worth it if society pays for it, but is definitely worth it and something to brag about and lord over the uneducated if daddy paid for it. Incredibly unAmerican, comrad, and stupid.

An educated public is far more productive. This helps the entire country.

especially yattering about exercise in an over-worked, underpaid, non-union, low benefits strata 'essential' working-class society. hell. give 'em a sensible 40hr work week w/fair compensation, twice-yearly dr. check-ups, and 3 weeks vacation - then you could piously grouse about how they ignore being too tired to walk around the block. { f.m. } besides, who points out when that should be YOUR last piña colada for the evening?

yeah, folks should take care, but the bloated calling the bloated is disingenuous. when they operate at 10% - then pull out the soapbox.

paradoxically, why do we need doctors at all when insurance companies know what drugs or procedures anyone should require? have faced that phalanx before. 'y' is cheaper than 'x', for them, but 'x' was their w.m.d. only six months prior. only to find concerns that 'x' and 'y' might have different risks, the pharmacist said, "they are almost identical." silly me. why worry?

it's a highly mucked system. for an average citizen, an illness could affect their entire being. and their loved ones. a bankruptcy hurts far more than the debtor. it's sickening to think that our system inflicts so much pain and alters so much more lives. it is immoral.

just too odd that cavemen felt more of an obligation to provide healthcare than the present system to their members. just being out one hunter (bob's bum toe) they saw the immediate effect on their own personal well-being. they might actually like bob too. wished him better, and for his family too. happy to fund his wellness plan. get him back up, and running to pay off that moss and lizard bacon foot wrap. all of that w/o having to nail a hippy to wood to realize there is a better way.

one would think, the US has the ability to put a 'copter on mars, program it to fly itself, and have it beam back the wright moment of achievement but figuring out how to get bob's toe healthy, w/o it costing him an arm, is too complex.** it's like really bad kafka.

perhaps the odd savior: the more the right disses socialism the better it appears. if the 'traffic cone of treason' loving hockey pucks continue, maybe the best hope of getting a healthier healthcare system (in the way nazis made the world a better place) saner people might use these bad brains' bad example to right the system by going left (the costanza principle: if everything they say is wrong then not following their advice has to be right).

end of rant ( 'thou feel better getting that elephant off my chest...for a bit).

oh! they should get the vaccine(s). after all, how appreciative is it when Hair Furor is the only reason we have it at all? /s

* btw: insurance is happy w/pharmaceutials? kick-backs?
** 'tho bob's toe would feel better if he'd just stop putting his foot in his mouth.

StukaFox said:

You don't want a vaccine? Lovely. We will be canceling your health insurance. Since you've chosen to be a complete cunt, we've chosen not to pay for your utter cuntiness.

I work in health insurance. The three biggest contributors to the price of insurance are:
1: fraud (doctors are notorious for this)
2: general waste (upbilling; unnecessary tests that are only performed to keep the fucking ambulance-chasing lawyers from filing malpractice suits because someone got the shits from an antibiotic)
3: PREVENTABLE HEALTH ISSUES. This includes obesity, smoking, not exercising, not getting annual checkups and atrocious dietary habits as first-order issues. If not corrected, these lead to more expensive and longer term second-order issues: diabetes, heart disease, cancer, vascular disease. These issues start a feedback loop with the second-order effects cause immobility which contributes to increasing first-order effects which amplifies second-order effects -- lather, rinse, repeat.

Now add a good case of Covid to that mix. If you end up on a ventilator for two week, there's a mil-plus in hospital bills: someone has to either pay that (welcome higher insurance rates!) or the hospital has to eat it (welcome even HIGHER insurance rates!) You can bitch all you want about the cost of healthcare in America, but you're paying for every dumb, entitled asshole who spouts shit like MUH FREEDUMS!! when asked to do basic things to protect themselves and others.

tl;dr: your idiot views of what the actual fuck "freedom" is ends at my wallet. Fuck you and get your goddamn vaccine. And put down the Cheetos while you're at it.

The Best Explanation of Addiction

cloudballoon says...

But... but... as the Capitalist says: "where's the money in THAT?"

Notice how the Western health system is designed to not solve health/mental problems and drug companies rarely want to take out the root causes, they mostly treat (i.e. suppress) just enough of your symptoms so you can get whatever problems (and/or some others) you have again down the road. Most pills don't help build your system to fight, just buying you time.

And addressing trauma? forgettabouit! The society-at-large have painted a largely negative imagine to psychologists & mental health professions, and associated victim shaming, most people don't even want to seek help?

vil said:

Some sweeping generalisations, not sure we can solve childhood trauma for everybody including ourselves.

But yes in general ghettoes, lack of education and social mobility, social exclusion of groups of people (say by color for example) are bad. These life circumstances can be improved or alleviated by state or public institutions easier than limiting drug supply.

So instead of assigning every addicted person a better trained shrink it might be easier and cheaper to get some prevention going. Reverse school segregation, make better schools financially viable for poor families, support meaningful social support programmes to allow families to leave problematic neighborhoods etc.

You can only save the fucked up ones if they want to be saved and they sure dont. Give them other options early in life. Save them quickly if they drop out of society the first time rather than punish them for life.

Biden Has A Lot To Boast About In New Covid Relief Bill

StukaFox says...

Bob, as much as this'll surprise you, I totally agree with what you're saying. The distribution of the stimulus money to couples making up to $150,000 is friggen ridiculous -- and I'm in that category. I will do what I did with the last two checks: give to local charities helping the homeless and communities of color (as much as I hate that term).

The worst part of this is that it sets up a liquidity trap. The Fed can't reduce buying crap debt (that BBB dogshit is at 4% should terrify anyone who understands how debt and the rating agencies work), nor can they allow rates to rise (thus totally screwing responsible savers). This is the cusp of a financial disaster that blew past 1929 on 9/17/19 and is now approaching the cataclysm of the South Seas Company collapsing. As far as I can see, this is a total melt-up in the markets because there's no stable returns and everyone is now in speculation mode.

Were it my call, I would scale the money along income (or non-income) lines: $10k for the lowest incomes, sliding scale from there. I'd also set up government-backed savings accounts that pay 10% for those people and only those people. I'd also pay off/down student debt along the same income scales.

I do not begrudge the wealthy for their wealth. But capitalism can't be a winner-take-all system. We live in a society, and society will always have winners and losers. The least we can do is ease the burden for those at the bottom by taking some from the top. I'm tired of the homeless camps and mentally-ill people wandering the streets of Seattle. They are the least of us and thus should be the ones who get the most help.

CITATION FUCKING NEEDED BOB

I get it, you and your overlord have really hurt feelings over the fact that 8 MILLION more people wanted Biden in charge. That's not STEALING, that's WINNING. It isn't something Trump has ever actually done legitimately, so I can understand how he wouldn't recognize what that looks like.

There was no "steal" on the part of Biden or the Dems, no matter how loudly Trump whines about it. Donald and his goonsquad are attempting an actual, honest to goodness violent overthrow of the duly elected government of the US. That IS NOT ok. It isn't funny, it isn't cute. It isn't "protesting" anything to break into the US Capitol. It isn't bringing on liberal tears, it's tearing down the structures that have allowed this society to flourish. It's setting fire to the Constitution and pissing on the ashes.

If there's fraud, show the evidence. Don't bitch that they tried but judges said no standing - a lack of standing means there was no injured party. If there had been actual evidence of actual fraud, then there would be injured parties they could bring into court who would have standing. No one has standing though, because there's no evidence, because it was a good clean election and Trump fucking lost. Stop supporting the literal insurrection, and welcome to a few years of the grown-ups who listen to experts trying to steer the ship to safety before the chucklefucks inevitably seize the wheel again.

Who appoints a judge has nothing to do with their authority, good for you or all those Trump judges would be powerless come January....besides which, Brann is a registered Republican and a former member of the conservative Federalist Society. There's no appeal, he ruled Trump had no standing to bring the lawsuit, no evidence, and no case.

Trump lost by a landslide of over 7 million votes...verified legal votes. Be a man, not a crybaby sore loser, and come to terms with it. He lost. Bipartisan election officials have certified in every state that there was no democratic cheating scheme, OAN and Newsmax are lying to you. He was ahead only if you don't count Democratic votes. He's never had a single victory by vote. Never.

Just lost his Nevada challenge too....not that it matters. Pennsylvania clinches it for Biden.
Edit: and Michigan and Georgia.

What did Trump do in 4 years to secure election integrity. According to you, less than nothing and both elections under Trump were disasters. He claimed massive fraud from day one, spent millions investigating, yet found none and did nothing to stop any.
Who doesn't care about election security? Democrats tried multiple times to create an unchangeable paper trail of every vote, Republicans blocked it and every other plan to make elections more secure. You are again confused about which party tried to act to protect America and which blocked protections.

bobknight33 said:

You think some Obama appointed judge be the final say, you are sadly mistaken.

Trump might lose but not yet.

Trump did have a landslide victory but Democrats well being Democrats cheated the shit out of the election.

But hey when did Democrats ever car about election integrity?

I think Bill's attack on the science/health experts is misguided.

Not that Bill's wrong, mind you. IF you have a good internal (immune) system you'll have a better chance of fighting it off, but

1) that's NOT a guarantee you won't get sick.
2) DOESN'T mean you won't help spread it by being all gun-ho about it, and
3) USA being what it is -- the number of over-weight, obese are just staggering -- what's the point for the health experts to say/shame people with, er, "their pre-conditions" are to blame NOW? How's that gonna help?

Besides, the health experts have been promoting healthy, active living for ages. They're not "cowards" because the people don't listen to them.

It's mind-bogging to me how narcissistic and self-centered American society is. If people just pay any attention outside of American media, they should know how to handle Covid-19.

Why Was the Islamic Golden Age of Science… Golden?

newtboy says...

The problem being we live in a society in the U.S. that, despite tolerance and even acceptance of diversity being part of the reason for the creation of the nation, is fairly closed minded and intolerant of ethnic diversity and getting worse rapidly.

We could learn a few things from Sweden.

vil said:

Last names as a way to determine ethnic diversity, lost me there.

Cool though, that makes my sister latin american.

Too bad I am stuck with a name thats probably German in origin.

Diversity is fine. It was the tolerance of the society to entertain the notion that feeding a bunch of good for nothing intellectuals was a noble idea that made a golden age possible. Also the possibility to travel and communicate, the spread of information was helpful. Language barriers came down. That tolerance ended around 1250. Muslim lands were still ethnically diverse after that, but no more tolerance for science.

So tolerance of different ideas, customs, religions, foreigners and races seems more important than attempting to induce diversity artificially.

Tolerance naturally leads to diversity - you can see this in areas like scientific teams, hi-tech companies, or top sports teams. If you want the best people you arrive at not evaluating their race, but their abilities. That is if the society around you lets you do that.

My friends son just spent 6 months working in a chemical lab in Sweden. Met few Swedes, mostly worked with people from all over the world. So he helped with a Swedish project, he can now go back to work on his own project and he knows all these people from around the world who work on similar stuff. No one gives a damn about what ethnicity any of the people involved are or if the lab was "diverse". They all concentrate on the project. If a commision goes in and starts counting how many Laplandian scientists are filling a quota the scientists would show the (imaginary) commision their collective middle finger or just leave.

So i would argue that ethnically diverse scientific teams are not more succesful because they are diverse, they are more successful because they are open and tolerant (and that has led to their diversity).

Forcing diversity will not bring the same result.

Long? Sorry.
