Japanese marten raised by a dog.

SDGundamX says...

"Chinhyakkei" is a great show. Literally translated it means "Rare Scenes." Every week they invite people from around Japan to submit stories or scenery that is unusual or outright bizarre. A TV crew goes out to confirm and record it and then a panel of guest celebrities vote on which is the strangest submission. I think you get some prize money if the one you submit is voted most unusual. Some things I've seen on the show:
- A bicycle vending machine
- A parking lot where you pay the parking fee using one of those old-school vacuum tube conveyor systems
- The man with the longest mole whisker in Japan
- A house shaped like a soccer ball

Frankly I'm kind of surprised more clips from the show haven't ended up here in the wtf channel.

Football (soccer) seen as 'sissyball' in Deep South

In my lifetime there has been a huge uptick in the popularity of soccer. By the time civilization comes to an end in 2078 it will almost be as popular as North American football.

Jackie Chan - How to Do Action Comedy

Retroboy says...

Curious as to how people feel about "Kung Fu Shuffle" and "Shaolin Soccer" by Stephen Chow back in the 2000's? It fits the genre (of sorts), has comedy (although perhaps more oriental than western in sensibilities), and I've found them to be lots of fun. There's some parallels between him and Jackie, although Steven's not acted in a while.

The Apple Watch (Parody)

Yogi says...

I actually like it, I understand a lot of people think it's pointless but I actually have a great use for it. I'm a soccer referee, and I imagine an app being made where I could say into the watch "Blue 24 Yellow card" and it recording it for me. It'll let me know when the half is up, it'll record scores for me. All while tracking my running and fitness levels (heartrate) during the game which already a lot of referees do.

So I'd use it for that, and I'm totally going to get one.

The Random Stop - Anatomy of a Murder

VoodooV says...

all the more reason to invest in mental health and sensible gun laws/enforcement to put the odds more in the soccer mom side of things.

because for some reason the "good guys" with guns have a habit of becoming "bad guys"

With great power comes great responsibility.

The Random Stop - Anatomy of a Murder

Jerykk says...

This seemed pointless. They tried to make the event more impactful by overdramatizing it (showing the cop talking to his wife about their daughter, drawing out the gunfight, having the cop mention his family right before getting killed, etc) but it just made it feel like a cheesy Hollywood drama. The actual dashcam footage is way, way more impactful and really shows how sudden and brutal murder can be.

It's all too easy to hate cops (and authority figures in general) but it's also easy to forget that even a routine traffic stop can be a life-or-death situation. Cops have no idea who is behind the wheel. It could be a soccer mom or it could be a violent psychopath.

Lunatic fake feminist disturbs the relative peace

newtboy says...

To play devil's advocate....when she jumped in front of the 'protester' to interrupt his retarded soliloquy, she (lightly) bumped into him, and he moved her away. Then she gets irate, calls 'assault', jumps back in his face, and grabs the camera. At that point, I think they can defend themselves by shoving her away, and if she flops to the ground like a bad soccer player fishing for a foul and hurts herself, that's her problem not theirs. I would guess that's how the cops saw it, with her as the antagonist and instigator, a position that was reinforced when she fights the police too.
She over acted, they over reacted, she over acted again AND over reacted, they over reacted again, she over acted again, she went to jail.
Lots of sound and fury indicating nothing.

Also, the discussion that i was hoping for that never happened: are you allowed to push someone if they're "in your personal space" or something? I can't understand why they're not arrested too.

The "Throw Like a Girl" Myth | MythBusters

vil says...

How is this a myth? What is the supposed content of this myth? And the video? Some people throw like girls, then throw even more like girls with their other hand. Then this lady comes up who can throw and is commended for throwing like a man. What?

If you are a man and someone says you throw or run like a girl everyone understands what that means. It means they want to find out if you also fight like a girl.

If you are a girl and you do something like a girl - that doesnt actually merit conversation. Or insult. Ambiguity overload. Could mean anything.

Throwing with your left hand. That has more to do with your favored hand and favored eye than practice and technique. My younger son is right handed but has a dominant left eye. He can hit a target equally well with either hand, same "form". He can probably throw a bit farther with his right hand but not by much. Not so good trying to aim a gun - try holding a weapon in your right hand and aim with your left eye. He shoots like a girl (yes I know there are many girls who can shoot) but he can throw like a man with both hands. For basketball, tennis, ice-hockey, soccer - very useful to be ambidextrous. Probably also skiing, snowboarding, surfing, because you care less about which way you are turning.

Why would you want to take practice and technique out of the equation anyway - throwing like a girl is not just about strength, it´s about attitude and motivation and will to compete. And technique.

And girls very obviously have different techniques to men in sports that rely a lot on strength and aggresivity. Some girls practice with men and apply masculine techniques, others try to find their own way. No one tells Sharapova that she hits the ball like a girl - but that is certainly exactly what she does, compared to Nadal, no insult intended.

Andy Murray now has a female coach, I am sure he will be very careful not to appear to be hitting the ball like a girl.

If you have the same equipment and strength matters you cant help having a different technique.

If all that matters is skill (lets say youre throwing a light ball a short distance at a target) I would expect not much gender difference.

Six-fingered family are Brazil's lucky omen

Sagemind says...

Forget the part about Brazil
Forget the part about football/soccer
Forget everything here...

Focus on Six digits - Five fingers and a thumb. That's freekin' awesome.
And the fact that it seems to be a dominant gene in the family.
Dare I say *EIA - if this spreads, we could advance to an extra digit per hand.
