McCain defending Obama 2008

newtboy says...

Yep...that seems like a bit of 'please don't throw me in that briar patch, Br'er Fox.' imo. If he could get banned for outrageously disgusting, intentionally provocative, unpatriotic, but technically allowed comments, it seems it would verify to him that liberals (which he believes we all are here) are all poised to censor and silence any voice that disagrees.
I prefer to allow the ugliness of the right to show itself publicly, hiding it does nothing to oppose it and only let's it fester, hidden safely in the dark.

It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
I prefer the former to the latter two options.

The problem is, much of that awful stuff contradicts the other awful stuff and none of it is consistent. If he genuinely believes it all, there's something seriously wrong. The only belief I can pin down is that belief is fluid and constantly changing, and anything goes if it supports the cause/talking points of the day.

It’s funny that, aside from bob himself, no one has proposed (or even mentioned prior to this thread) banning him.

Personally, I think he’d love to be banned. It would fit his martyr complex perfectly.

I agree with you here. I don’t think he’s a troll; I think he genuinely believes the awful stuff he says.

Except that YouTube (a private company) refusing to host his videos isn't at all equivalent to the government dragging him away and silencing him against his constitutional rights. Obvious, perhaps, but worth saying anyway, given that's how the alt-right have been portraying his "takedown". Also, he was only banned from Twitter for a week and is back spewing his hateful dangerous lies on that platform as if nothing happened, with the tacit approval of its CEO, who loves the clicks.

The Mueller Investigation Is Not A Witch Hunt

Another Trumpism....pure bullshit masquerading as an argument....

Yes, the largest fine ever, for the best funded campaign ever. Compare campaign funds and it's right in line with other fines.
Donations of $1000 or more must be reported within 48 hours in the last 20 days....they were late, not hidden.
Trump's was never reported and actively hidden and lied about.

These were civil charges, Trump is facing umpteen CRIMINAL cases, many of them felonies. Hiding huge payments to a porn star (and other women) for her (their) silence to influence the election is among the felonies.

Just duh, Bob.

Obama Campaign Fined Big for Hiding Donors, Keeping Illegal Donations

https://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/01/07/obama-campaign-fined-big-for-hiding-donors-keeping-illegal-donations

The resulting fine, one of the largest ever handed down by the FEC, is the result of a failure to disclose or improperly disclosing thousands of contributions to Obama for America during the then-senator's 2008 presidential run, documents show.
The FEC says the Obama campaign failed to disclose the sources of 1,300 large donations, which together accounted for nearly $1.9 million. Election Commission rules state campaigns must report donations of $1,000 or more within 20 days of Election Day.

And you panties are in a wad for paying an porn star to say nothing.

I appreciate this guys video for introducing me to Sarah Jeong. It has inspired me to obtain a modest position of NYT. Among the debris that rambled out of his mouth I did take note of a few points he tried to make.

"they will not stop until they've silence everyone on the right.."
"they hate us, they want us erased.."

On the bright side white male republicans can take comfort in knowing that they comprise the majority of the 30% of americans that own all the guns.

Sadly gun stocks haven't been performing well ever since President Obama left office. (Plays tiny violin)

I don't know much about those gardening tools and how it relates to sex and video hits or how cool you may or may not be but, I do know that if you don't down vote this video... *squints eyes and spits tobacco on the ground* you ain't nuthin' but a pansy to me. *wipes mouth on shirt sleeve and waits in awkward silence for your decision*

Honestly I spent more time playing the original Wolfenstein than Wolf 3D, those endless blue corridors got boring real fast for me.
Also, Thot is a short for That Hoe Over There and seems to be a derogatory term for women who use sex to get viewers on their Twitch or Youtube channels. I'd downvote this, but I'm not cool enough.

You owe me no explanation for how you run your site. If you feel the videos of children speaking about kids and for for kids do not belong then I will consider their voices silenced here.

Quote hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

As en loco parentis for the Kids channel I will tell you that this channel is both about kids and FOR kids - videos that would be of interest to kids. The videos you were assigning to *kids were not appropriate for that channel - and it’s not the place to make a political point. Siftler out.

God Sent Two Scientists To Cure Cancer But They Were Aborted

I agree, but that's a constitutional nightmare....how about cutting it off after someone gets convicted of 24 counts of fraud and embezzlement from their "ministry"? Millions he bilked the poor and elderly out of with promises he never intended to keep, and that he used for a fleet of Rolls Royces, air conditioned dog houses, and to pay off mistresses for their silence instead of church work and the yearly vacations people paid for.

I'm very big on religious freedom, but the depths of emotional exploitation, deceit and manipulation of this entire program should be criminal. We recognize other kinds of con jobs and convict for it, this crew should be too.

Religious freedom should start getting cut off when you preach the necessity of giving the speaker your money in exchange for what they will do for you. Giving to a charity that will go on to help others is one thing, it's another to pay money to get someone to promise you their 'blessing', prayers, or even financial rewards that will metaphysically be manifest in return.

I thought parts of it were cringeworthy, but that that was entirely intentional. Sometimes that cringe is precisely what a comic is going for.

Honestly, I don't remember any of these being a "roast" to the degree that this one was. Thinking back on them in Obama's era, all I can remember is the mic-drop moment when Obama turned the tables and said Dick Cheney was the worst president in his memory, and Keegan-Michael Key being Obama's anger translator. Obama could certainly handle light/moderate jabs directed at him, but I don't remember that being done much if any at these specific events. Maybe it was and I just don't remember it.

Anyway, I think that saying that this upped the ante and went for the jugular significantly more than in the past is almost certainly correct. But that doesn't make it "bad" or "disrespectful" or whatever. I don't care that Trump didn't attend, even though presidents "traditionally" do. Hell, given the whole "fake news" shtick that he is trying to sell, he should have barred any White House staff from attending -- even/especially Press Secretary Sanders.

BUT, then after the event he should have simply said that he didn't watch it and that he doesn't give a rats ass what was said there instead of sulking about it on twitter. Acting all offended just makes him look like a little bitch (and that goes for all the other R's that have whined also).

Anyway, I guess overall I thought her bit was a good but not great set. Doing that material with that mixed audience guarantees that there's going to be some uncomfortable silences and crickets, but she clearly anticipated and managed that quite well. Roasts aren't really my thing, but given the machismo image that Trump tries to push it may well have been the perfect way to bait him into looking like a crybaby in his inevitable response. Mission accomplished?

Was avoiding watching this as I was getting hints it was a cringeworthy bomb from the news headlines.

I just watched it and it's masterful, she totally landed it. The control of the audience was amazing. The one time she had total silence from a joke was completely intentional for the follow up.

/me adds Michelle Wolf to list of comedians to keep watching.

If you've been avoiding it for similar reasons, go give it a watch.

A Perfect Circle -- Disillusioned

MilkmanDan says...

Lyrics from https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/perfectcircle/disillusioned.html :

(Dopamine, on dopamine...)

We have been overrun by our animal desire
Addicts of the immediate keep us obedient and unaware
Feeding this mutation, this Pavlovian despair

We've become disillusioned
So we run towards anything glimmering

Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island

Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher

(Dopamine, on dopamine...)

Willingly been re-wired by clever agents within
Looping our reflections, our obsessions draw us in
Fix and fixation, no sentience beyond

We've become disillusioned
So we dive like crows towards anything glittering

Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island

Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher

ABC News: Purity Balls: Lifting the Veil on Special Ceremony

When you're talking about something that clearly skews the stats, like hyper religious people thinking divorce is totally a slap at God, that's not confirmation bias, it's statistics.

It's also evidence that it is a better way of life, but that is something you apparently refuse to consider. That is why I am calling confirmation bias.

Do you feel the same about those who imprison women, force their silence with abuse, and treat them like abused pets because their religion says that's proper? What if they're Christians?

The bible says that husbands should lay down their lives for their wives, like Christ loved the church and died for it.

What say you about those God has chosen to be non believers? According to you, God created them with no purpose besides eternal torture in hell, because according to you they have no alternative since God never revealed himself to them so heaven is barred to them. Pretty fucked up God imo. I prefer Mt (Mot, Mewt, etc). He's older than Yahweh and far more honest and stable.

It's not that God wouldn't reveal Himself to them; a lot of ex-christian atheists simply inherited the faith of their parents, and when they got turned loose in the world, they fell away because they didn't really know God. They need to have their own faith that is wholly theirs. No one can make you or by proxy give your life to Christ. That is a decision each individual person has to come to on their own.
