"I would have run into Florida School ... Unarmed" trump

Drachen_Jager says...

“So what happens is, this guy falls off right on his face, hits his head, and I thought he died. And you know what I did? I said, ‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away,” said Trump. “I couldn’t, you know, he was right in front of me and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him… he’s bleeding all over the place, I felt terrible. You know, beautiful marble floor, didn’t look like it. It changed color. Became very red. And you have this poor guy, 80 years old, laying on the floor unconscious, and all the rich people are turning away. ‘Oh my God! This is terrible! This is disgusting!’ and you know, they’re turning away. Nobody wants to help the guy. His wife is screaming—she’s sitting right next to him, and she’s screaming.”

Thank God for the Marines. “What happens is, these 10 Marines from the back of the room… they come running forward, they grab him, they put the blood all over the place—it’s all over their uniforms—they’re taking it, they’re swiping [it], they ran him out, they created a stretcher. They call it a human stretcher, where they put their arms out with, like, five guys on each side,” shared Trump.

“I was saying, ‘Get that blood cleaned up! It’s disgusting!’ The next day, I forgot to call [the man] to say he’s OK,” said Trump, adding of the blood, “It’s just not my thing.” - Donald Trump

That's the guy who says he'd run into a building with an active shooter?

300 US Marines vs 60000 Romans

Mordhaus says...

Standard load for the US military is 7 thirty round mags. You can carry more or less, but that is the general amount.

My biggest complaint would be that if we are assuming these to be WW2 Marines, there is no way a force of 300 would all be carrying Thompsons. In general, they would be using BARs or M1 Garands. If they were Korean era, M14s. These would have used a much more deadly projectile that easily could penetrate multiple targets packed close together.

Could a force armed correctly for the time period indicated actually kill that many targets? Numbers would suggest they would run out of ammo with some Romans still alive. However, we then run into some intangibles.

One must factor the sheer shock value of a force literally laying your fellow soldiers out in windrows. I would suspect that even highly disciplined Roman soldiers would begin to break and flee at some point.

Assuming they did not break ranks, the soldiers would still have bayonets, grenades, and personal sidearms. The Romans would still also be attacking an elevated position. As the Korean war showed us, it could go either way, but the likelihood is that the elevated position would eventually triumph in hand to hand combat. Not to mention that the Romans would be dealing with typically healthier, larger, and better trained soldiers.

Now if this was 300 current era Marines, it would be a slaughter. They would be using highly accurate 5.56 weapons with around 63000 rounds of ammo.

Interesting to watch. But... The pre-battle zoom showed them carrying M1A1 submachine gun which has an ammo capacity of 20 or 30 per clip. Even if each marine is a sharpshooter marksman with 1 kill per bullet, that's 9000 total rounds for the entire battalion for the first clip. Assuming that each marine carries 2-3 extra clips, you get a maximum of 27k rounds at best. True winner based on numbers, Romans.

Aliens Movie - "Get Away from her, you bitch!"

ChaosEngine says...

I have to say... I am not a fan of the sentry gun scene.

They're an undeniably cool bit of colonial marine tech, but I think they reduce the aliens to force of numbers.

I know I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I really don't like any of the changes in the special edition.
- Ripley being told about her daughter makes her reaction to newt predictable.
- seeing the colony before the marines arrive gives away what happened (although given the title, I guess this is kinda obvious)

Mostly though Aliens is already a pretty long movie (137m) and the extra scenes just don't add much.

In conclusion, no should change the things I like and you're all either too old or too young. get off my lawn.

THANK YOU!!! I remember the sentry guns, and thought I was going senile because I never saw them again...

Royal guard punches annoying guy.

newtboy says...

It's fake.
That doesn't look like a real queens guard/royal marine uniform, no weapon, no verbal warning, he's standing in an open pathway 1/2 blocking people, and the overreaction to what would likely be a daily nuisance.
Also, it's from this "social experiment"....

Grave Digger's record breaking front wheelie

Payback says...

Two speed marine transmission by Coan racing.

Grave Digger drivers are also well known for nary a single fuck being given for wrecking any or all parts on their trucks.

Nice. They must have built that motor (and trans) with this in mind...dry sump, front pickup, huge external reservoir....or it probably would have seized being vertical that long.

What's really going on in the NFL

newtboy says...

Bob, please, for God's sake, learn about your country.
Using your platform to peacefully express your personal politics...nothing could be more American or more pro-American values.
You are dissing the flag and the freedom it stands for by trying to infringe on their rights to speak and protest peacefully....but you stand up for murderous white supremacists and secessionists (true pure anti-Americans) who you believe should have immunity and the public's understanding because they're protesting statue removals.
Shameful, disgraceful...and ignorant.

Edit: Because I'm certain you don't know, the taking a knee thing was a suggestion from a Marine as a way to protest and show respect to the flag and servicemen. It's how they greet fallen soldiers. It's not anti flag, anti America, or anti soldier/police. That's all 100% misdirection being used to divide by those who benefit from division.

This is a disgrace... NFL playing politics displaying anti American values.

They are dissing the Flag and the national anthem by not standing or linking arms. Shameful.

How ancient Romans made stronger concrete than today

oritteropo says...

They actually mention that it could be used as-is where we would need to use steel reinforced concrete.

Where it really wins out is marine applications, which get stronger from reacting with seawater rather than weakening over time.

Isn't the title misleading/wrong? It should be longer-lasting, not stronger, than today's concrete

How To Cook A Cheap Steak Vs. An Expensive Steak

Mystic95Z says...

Yep, no marinades here too when cooking a good cut of beef. My fav is a nice grilled Porterhouse. About the only thing I marinate is beef strips i've cut up from a roast to dry for beef jerky.

RFlagg said:

I really dislike marinades. I want the steak. Pure. Simple.

I like Ribeye, but there ends up being so much thick fat cut to the side, that I feel I got ripped off, and my 12 oz steak is basically an 8 oz worth of edible meat, while the New York Strip gives more meat for the buck, and if done properly is normally good enough.

New Rule: The Lesser of Two Evils

ChaosEngine says...

Democracy is ALWAYS the lesser of two evils. No candidate (even St Bernie) is perfect .

Look at France. They've just elected Emmanuel Macron. Nobody has much a clue who this guy was yet he won nearly 2/3 of the vote. Why? Because the other option was Marine Le fucking Pen, someone who makes Trump look inclusive. Although at least she could string a sentence together, even if it was generally openly evil.

The point is that given the choice between mediocrity and evil, you be a grown up about it and choose mediocrity. Yeah, it sucks, but life sucks sometimes... deal with it. If you decide to "let the system burn", then you and your matrix trenchcoat that you thought was cool in 99 deserve everything you get.

Star Citizen Alpha 2.6 - Star Marine Fanmade Trailer

RFlagg says...

The improvements overall in 2.6 is pretty good (much better frame rate among them), and Star Marine is fun enough. It actually is playable, though until 3.0, there isn't much to do in the Persistent Universe.

People give Star Citizen lots of flack for long development time and the like, but most developers/publishers wouldn't even announce they were working on the game until it was where Star Citizen is now. Most games are in development for a few years before they start showing off stuff, then give a year or two more on a game of this scope. The only other thing I can think of is CD Project Red's Cyberpunk 2077, which was announced before development really started in earnest (though they had a good team working on it when it was announced in 2013)... and that title won't be out until late 2017 or more likely 2018 (I'm not expecting more than a release window announcement in 2017 saying some quarter in 2018). Now to be fair, people aren't spending thousands on Cyberpunk ahead of release as they are with Star Citizen, though I think most people stopped at $60 tops, and there are valid issues/concerns with funding the way Star Citizen is funded, but I'll give it a chance. I'll dip back in after each major update... 3.0 or so is where it starts getting interesting, and it's nice seeing a developer be more open about what's going on while it's being worked on.

Come the end of 2017 or mid 2018, if we don't have Squadron 42 and most of the Protestant Universe, then I'll start having doubts. I'd expect it to be wrapped up and in maintenance mode with adding things like Elite Dangerous does by that point... and walking around in ED will likely take another expensive DLC.
