I'm surprised the wireless-HDMI transmitter didn't introduce an unacceptable level of lag. I remember an early Oculus presentation that mentioned the reason they use DVI was because HDMI introduced too much latency.

I like the idea of tricking the participant into walking in circles. Reminds me of Mythbusters episode where they tested "impossible to walk in a straight line while blindfolded".

Next step is to build a room where rods can rise out of the floor to create real life analogs to virtual objects (even stairs). Participant would have to wear some soundproof earbuds/headphones so they wouldn't hear the room "reconfiguring".

I've never used Oculus yet. I have no idea what version of the kit this is. Concerned at the lag between head movement and movement on the monitors. Very noticable, is this the first dev kit?

Does that lag even matter? Is it far more refreshed in the headset versus what we see on the monitor?

Actually, this is true, but it's also only one of the recall items that GM has issued Recalls for this year.

"It recalled 8,208 of its 2014 cars on May 7, for example, because they might have rear brakes on the front wheels."

One thing this video (and every other pro-net neutrality video ignores) is that there are valid technical reasons to have some content faster than others. In an ideal world, we should be able to mark some content as more or less latency tolerant.

Static webpages for instance; if your online banking or facebook or even videosift takes half a second longer to load, no-one really cares. But if your video stops for a second or an online game lags, that can ruin the experience.

Right now, if two servers send two packets, they are treated the same, even if one is time dependant (video/game content) and one isn't (static text).

That is the core argument against net neutrality. The problem is that it should be the content providers who decide what data is time dependant, not ISPs. Ideally, ISPs shouldn't even know what content is going through their pipes.

Just in case it's not clear, I do not in any way support the idea that ISPs should be allowed to slow or speed up content on their networks, any more than a construction company should be allowed tell drivers who drives in what lane.

Perhaps they should have actually done an ad about lag, instead of one about latency. If an ISP can't get that right, probably best to look for another ISP.

Funny, but then the sales line at the back makes the mistake of suggesting that throughput / bandwidth has anything to do with lag.

I remember 3 second lag and worse with dial up modems.

I did this exact same thing - that is, build a hand made dining room table for my wife. I didn't care about using reclaimed lumber, but I did want to avoid using glues. I used lag bolts and screws - I figured it would last longer than glue. Also, I used about 1/10th the number of tools he used. But I did use a sawsall and a drill.

I used all pine, but did a faux aging process with vinegar and steel wool, and black tea. It turned out awesome (after 12+ coats of spar varnish on the top... ug). I have two matching benches. It's all very rustic, durable, and functional.
