Sheriff Rips NRA - You’re Not Standing Up For Victims

newtboy says...

Ha! Even sifty knows to not listen to you, Bob. ;-)

The kid was a nut...he supports Trump, that's proof positive.

What's funny is lies could be appropriate, since the NRA spokeswoman was lying through her teeth, claiming they support a strong useful national registry and screening system. They do nothing but lobby to obstruct it at every turn. She's a bold faced liar. I used to be a member decades ago.

Nothing he did, even if it had been investigated fully, would have bared him from buying his guns. Blame police and the FBI, but they're powerless to stop known dangers from buying weapons because the NRA ensured they would be, because they exist only to lobby for manufacturers right to sell guns.

The leftist solution is to 1) ban guns from people diagnosed or
being investigated for criminal instability 2) regulate certain guns, modifications, and magazines much more stringently and 3) make private gun sales go through background checks. Without the latter, the rest is moot.

Really? funny, I recall Trump saying the buck stops with him, and blaming Obama when it happened under his watch, don't you? (He also likely claimed mass school shootings were fake news leftist propaganda, his buddy Jones told him so) Now, he blames the investigation of his campaign for the FBI not investigating his internet postings, knowing they aren't connected at all.

How is the cop responsible, specifically?

The kid was a nut.... Not a gun issue....

The system failed.
39 calls to local police.
Few calls to FBI..

Yet again the only leftest solution is to ban guns.. What bullshit.

This cop IS responsible for what happened. The buck stops with him and his office.. His office failed.

Faceswapping, Unethical Videos, and Future Shock

My personal prediction is that it will in the next 10 years get good enough to fool casual viewers. But society will adapt by recognizing that video needs to be verified, and any trustworthy media outlet will need to employ forensic video experts to verify clips.

We already do this with photos. No one thinks that even good photoshops of celebrity heads on porn stars are real. Or that photographic evidence that Hillary Clinton is a lizard person is likely to check out. I mean other than Alex Jones.

what are the things that he's doing that are great?

Mark Hamill : "He's not my Luke Skywalker"

ChaosEngine says...

I honestly don't know about Lucas.

He COULD be a Tolkien-esque visionary... or he could have taken a bunch of pre-existing elements (Kurosawa, Flash Gordon, the Dam Busters) and meshed them together and lucked out with an insanely talented group of people.

I don't want to write him off (I spent 20 years idolizing him from childhood to when I finally admitted how bad the prequels were).

But I also can't ignore the argument that much of what I love about Star Wars comes not from Lucas, but from Ralph McQuarrie's art, Ben Burtt's sound, John Williams' soundtrack (with a massive nod to Holst as well), Lawrence Kasdan's dialogue and the performances of Ford, Guinness and James Earl Jones.

LOL -- even if I somewhat agree with @ant, too.

Lucas maybe doesn't get enough credit for being a genius, Tolkien-esque "world creator".

Sure seems like he was at his best when he took that creative genius and paired it up with other people (NOT yes-men) to cover screenwriting duties (anything beyond broad-strokes, particularly dialog), directing, and probably casting etc. also. Given that, I breathed a sigh of relief when he sold to Disney. Star Wars wasn't going anywhere but down with him at the helm, but I like what Disney has done with it.

Then again, what do I know? His franchise to do with as he pleased. Just so happened that *I'm* also pleased with the net result...

...err... okay, I've only watched the movie once so far, I'm sure I'll watch it several more times (at least once more in the theaters most likely). I didn't get the idea that Laura Dern's character and Leia were lovers... at all...
I personally put the movie in my top two Star Wars films.

Liberal Redneck - To Hell with Roy Moore

StukaFox says...

Good on Alabama for electing Jones over Moore!

This is a win for the GOP, too -- they just dodged having that albatross around the party's neck for years to come.

Everyone won. Except Moore.

Lucky he survived.
If body cam footage supports his story, Jones is going to be a rich man....a disabled rich man with permanent medical needs.

Attorney Justin Moore said Jones “was dealing with a minor car issue after accidentally triggering his alarm and being unable to disable the security system” when police arrived. According to Moore, Jones was then “commanded to step out of his vehicle.”

When he exited his vehicle he tried to “explain the issue” and he was then “shot once in the stomach” by the unidentified Mesquite police officer, Moore said.

"Several officers then attacked Mr. Jones and attempted to perform an anal cavity search on the streets. Mr. Jones reacted to the unlawful sodomy and was consequently shot a second time in the back,” according to Moore.

Shot, sodomized, shot again, detained, isolated from legal counsel.

Mesquite Police Department. Off to the gulag with everyone involved in this shit.
