Žižek on Trump

I don't agree with Chomster's smugness completely, I think that theory & leftfield (pseudo) "intellectualism" needs to have a niche that is entertaining, of which Zizek surely fills the void of. But, Chomsky, is a stick to the facts sort, which is why I find Chomsky to be so important. We can't refute the facts and Chomsky is a great analyst of history.

What is it that Zizek exactly does? He is influential for being a sort of thinking man's political comedian, a jester to a degree; I think that is, in and of itself important (even inspirational) but I can see Chomsky's critical perspective in seeing it as just a bunch of posturing (jester prancing in a circle; ouroboros) that gets nothing done.

Video World - The Death of a Video Store

shagen454 says...

You know, I hated going to the video store when I was a kid. I was always looking for the new "blockbuster", it was always out and then you had to make up your mind on what to get which took upwards of forty minutes.

But, if you have good stores and good tastes then you can't beat a good video store or record store or book store. A good store will challenge you to look at something new and inspire you by putting really good quality material in front of you, that you otherwise wouldn't have been interested in or known about.

That is what I fear is going on, right now with the internet and Tech goons taking everything over. It removes the history by creating a disposable past & disposable future. If it's not "trending" then delete it, if it's not up to par with the new branding "templates", then get rid of it.

So, yeah - point being, fuck corporate chains, fuck big tech & long live quality mom & pop & independently run shops. It's sad that we are losing this battle - and with Trump (who is a corporate hooligan shill for the 1% & an ideological nazi[congrats you fucking idiots]) in office, it's only going to get worse.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) - Official Trailer

Well, if anything it introduces GITS to the newbs... I know so many kids in their early 20's that have never even heard of it; maybe it will inspire them to go dig some good shit up.

We always crave new, but the past is riddled with cavernous halls intertwined with crystals & gems.

It probably looks like everything sci-fi because so many other sci-fi films have drawn inspiration from the visuals from this late-60's graphic novel. Including starwars(heavily).

Where Has My Country Gone

After seeing Batman VR, I decided that after years of slumber, it was time to make a return!

Since I've been back, I've discovered a few things have changed during my absence. Such as how my "Dead" sprees can be seen in the "newest comments" and how the "embed code" replace had gone somewhere that I could only guess is reserved for the "Deadpool."

That said though, I do want to try my luck again here on videosift and see if I can catch up on old times. So fair forewarning to anyone ranked 1-69 (I'm shocked I'm at Rank 70 after all this time), if I start to get bored one of these days, you might get a couple of emails from Siftbot saying how a good chunk of your videos had died.

I like to think that I "Inspired" the "Grim Reaper" badge. But yeah... It is time to see if I can crack Top 50 and get to a rating over 1000!

Wristwatch magazine Hodinkee visit watchmaker Roger Smith

oritteropo says...

Their web site says:

The name, inspired by the Czech word “hodinky” “little watch”) reflects founder Benjamin Clymer’s desire to talk about watches in a casual way that is comfortable for all levels of readers.

vil said:

Hodinkee... is a mutilation of the Czech word for wristwatch. Just so you know. No idea what the back story to that is.

I never wear watches but watchmakers and watchmaking are as awesome as steam trains.
