Woman almost hits biker by merging, gets caught by cops
OK you made me re-watch this. At first I thought the lady had just made a mistake and missed a bike that came up beside her. The camera angle (FOV) makes it difficult to judge distances and directions very well.
On closer inspection she actually appears to come from behind and overtake in the right lane which is ending, and then merges into the exact spot where the bike is, and then does not react to the horn and keeps coming. That makes it really awkward for the biker to try to avoid her (speed up? slow down?), because its hard to predict what she is going to do next. So I understand the indignation a bit better and am willing to cheer the cop in this case, he looked very alert and professional (fake? just kidding).
I do wish people would use their mirrors, merge more safely (and faster) and use signals, and line-up properly when turning left, and u-turn safer and look before they open doors - any of those can easily kill a biker unintentionally. However I would be very reluctant to call the cops in these cases if I thought it was a mistake someone made and was lucky to get away with without major incident. Most of the time people learn from these close calls. This lady seemed to be talking back and confident in her ways.

There's no doubt that the person who's lane is ending needs to yield, and no one would argue that the lady in the car is a good driver. Still is it some sort of pride thing for the biker to prefer honking his horn and possibly getting wrecked over 1 second of breaking? I understand driving related righteous indignation, but it doesn't seem worth dying over.

I disagree that it is victim-blaming.
He is honking his horn and yelling and neither speeding up nor slowing down in the face of a car coming for him.
Drive defensively. So every time they run that PSA, that is victim blaming?
She was totally in the wrong. You saw I said that right?
And he didn't drive defensively.
As a car driver (encased in a metal box), I don't argue with someone who is coming right for me. I try to get the heck out of the way (and curse at them the entire way).
Now, maybe I am missing something -- you can correct me if I am wrong about my observations. I"m not a motorcycle driver. Maybe he couldn't have slowed down, sped up, or done some other maneuver. Looked to me like he could have.
Please do correct me if my observations are incorrect.
(And might I inquire as to why in particular it is odd to see me "victim blame"? Not that I think I am?)
Wow, that's some spectacular victim-blaming right there. Wouldn't have expected that from you bb.
Cops Don't Like to Be Honked At in Colorado
I have to be honest i stopped watching at, "Beeping your horn at a vehicle is called road rage".
That is just... ugh. No words.
Cops Don't Like to Be Honked At in Colorado
I found it hard to believe that simple honking is considered road rage in Colorado, so I found a lawyers web site that quoted that road rage is "assault with a motor vehicle or other dangerous weapon by the operator or passenger(s) of another motor vehicle or an assault precipitated by an incident that occurred on a roadway”. They went on to list some actions that are considered aggressive driving. One was excessive use of your horn, another was "Exiting the car to attempt to start a confrontation."
So not only is the cop a colossal prick, he doesn't know the law in his own jurisdiction. Either that or he was willing to blatantly lie on camera.

Progressive Dems To Clinton: This Race isn't Over
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
Yeah, I understand your point, gotta get worse to get better, go around the horn and remake the system. But four years is a mighty long time - and maybe things change irreparably.
I suppose you could think of Trump as chemotherapy. It's toxic but might be just what's needed to turn things around. But chemotherapy sometimes weakens the body so much that it can't fight anymore - and the body dies.
That's my concern. I think that 4 years of Trump chemo might kill us all.
This is why we are it the predicament we are in today.
If people keep voting for someone who does not share their values just to stop someone who is a bit worse from getting elected this cycle will continue forever. "Spoilers" and "lesser of two evils" are tactics that keep people voting against their best interests.
If you vote for Hillary or Trump just because you think the other is worse, you are voting for a local maximum, and will be stuck with the rigged two party system forever.
Voting your conscience and losing to Trump is far better!!! Eventually a third party can form and whittle away at the two sided party. They can change their positions to stay in power or die off. Either way it gives us the ability to choose what topics being addressed, unlike the current system where year after year we are pitted against each other on the same topics which those in control have little interest in. Wallmart, Comcast et all have little interest in abortion gun control, or gay rights.
BREAK the fucking system. Do not vote for her to prevent Trump. It insures the continuation of the current system. Your voice will forever be inconsequential.
"Voting for the lesser of two evils only paves the way for the greater."
If Meat Eaters Acted Like Vegans
I used to be a vegetarian, longer than I have been vegan, for nearly 10 years, because I was under the wrong impression of needing protein from eggs, milk and cheese to live healthy.
I came to the conclusion that as a vegetarian I'm still contributing to needless animal suffering, because it turns out that the dairy and egg industries are the two cruelest businesses out of all of them, and even then they are closely tied to meat production.
Male chicks being thrown by the bucket load into blenders and grinders because they are no use. The egg laying hens in the dark to save electricity costs, inside cages where they cannot move, or have fencing for a floor. Wings clipped, beaks chopped or burnt off. When they stop laying or collapse from exhaustion they get killed for meat anyway.
It's the same for the dairy industry, horns cut or burnt off, if they're born male they get turned into veal. Female cows constantly impregnanted to force milk production until they stop or collapse, then get turned into meat anyway.
I don't think I've called anyone a murderer, torturer or rapist. But people seem to love telling me that I do.
If anything I would be calling you an accomplice, since I doubt you are the one doing it. I wouldn't be doing it to make myself feel better, I'd be doing it because it's true. You're paying someone else to torture, and kill totally unnecessarily - There is no reason to eat any animal product for the majority of people on this planet.
I've put this out there in the past, and it still counts - if anyone can give me one good logical reason to eat any animal product, I'll eat a raw bloody steak on youtube.
That's pretty selfish and indicative of the main problem normal people have with vegans. You pontificate about your lifestyle, and how much better you are, and how we're murderers, and all we see is the extreme narcissism.
Vegetarians go plant-based for health, and/or for empathic reasons, whereas vegans are merely making a self-aggrandizing political statement.

Vikings never wore horned helmets.
I had a friend who was intensely proud of his Norwegian heritage. He would get pissed every time we watched a movie that showed stuff like vikings in horned helmets or other incorrect garb. I used to kid him about it, was always fun.
Sadly he passed away from a brain aneurysm before the Vikings (http://www.history.com/shows/vikings) series came out. I think he would have loved it.
X-Men - Color and Costumes
I kind of get it. But on the other hand, every time you change mediums the way you tell the story changes. Every time a movie comes out based on a book (I mean an all-text novel, not a graphic novel / comic), most people that love the source book *think* that they want the movie to be a 100% verbatim adaptation. But the medium just doesn't work the same way.
Describing a setting or a character might take many paragraphs in a book, possibly spread out over multiple chapters or even multiple books. In a movie, *bam* -- you put it on screen, and you can see it. Done. On the other hand, describing a character's motivations can be done very succinctly or in great depth and detail in a book, but it is harder to do that in a purely visual medium like film.
Wolverine's color scheme and costume design works in comic books. His mask/hat thing with the horn-like points works in the comics. But in live-action film, what materials can look or behave like either or those things, and not be jarringly weird? Even cosplay type stuff is generally built to look good in still images -- not necessarily in video, being subjected to action-movie kinds of physical motion. I believe the directors / filmmakers when they say that they have tried more authentic costumes, and felt that they "didn't work".
Deadpool was a very good example of how it *can* work to move the imagery in a direction visually closer to the comic books. But I think the best we can hope for is a happy medium where *some* visual cues are adapted from the comics, in the situations where those things adapt well to the format.

2 Ways For A Tank To Cross A Trench
Did anybody else make the sound of the General Lee's (Dukes of Hazzard car) horn in their head as they saw the tank coming full speed at the trench?
