Evidence of advanced pre-historic civilizations

Ryjkyj says...

Big deal, 1st graders make batteries out of freaking potatoes. You don't know what it was used for or what specific purpose it was created for. That does not mean that it was a battery in the sense that you mean it.

You're stretching the "computer" a little bit, while technically the object in question "might have" been a computer, so is an abacus, and we don't get all up in arms over those.

What then? A drawing that looks like a helicopter? Give me a break, one drawing that looks like something does not a theory make.

Those gold items of jewelry? You saw quite clearly in the history channel video that the "model" the guy built was, speaking in terms of aeronautics, totally different. The cylinder that ran the whole length of the piece of jewelry needed to be thinned out on the flying model until it was just a twig where it met the tail. Again, speaking in terms of aeronautics, that's WAAAAY different. Don't you think it might be a more acceptable theory to say that it's a piece of jewelry that merely resembles a modern airplane? Wait, what am I saying, it's not a theory, because the fact that two pieces of jewelry that happen to look like something else does not make a theory.

Either way, science is full of anomalies, that's because science can't explain everything. Because rational people don't expect it to. Don't apply the omniscient, omnipotent aspects of god to science, because they don't make any rational sense there either.

Shit, I just have to say that watching this terrible video with this annoying used car salesmen was one of the hardest things I've done all week. And it proves nothing. This guy is just cherry picking from ideas that his poor warped brain does not have the ability to comprehend.

I'm not avoiding science because I don't accept this guy's premise. This guy is avoiding science by proposing it.

Perhaps they aren't reading the right books or watching the right documentaries. There's a lot on the subject. History Channel runs a series called Ancient Aliens. Though some of the theories presented are far fetched, it's still interesting to watch. You see, I like to keep an open mind on the subject. You obviously don't, and that's your prerogative. But I'm no more nuts than you I can assure you that. Besides, I never said we have been visited by ufo's, or aliens. I only said that assuming we are the only intelligent life in the universe is both ignorant and arrogant. You assumed I was referring to visitations for some reason. That subject is debatable, and depends on who you talk to. Just like religion.

Zero data? I know of a few scientists who would beg to differ.

As you can imagine the ytufo nuts think its real, even tho the photo among other things was tracked down in minutes after it was released. Thats what you get when you base your reality on a belief system and not fact.

I'm pretty sure it's a fact that we are not the only intelligent life in the universe. If you think otherwise you are both ignorant and arrogant.

Actually, the chance of alien "life" in the universe, having, currently, or yet to exist is high. But that doesn't mean intelligent life, as we simply have no data on how likely it is that intelligent life would arise. But one thing is certain, we have zero data to indicate any life has contacted us.

Hitler - 'Triumph Of The Will' - The pinnacle of propaganda

I have never seen this before. It was mentioned in the History Channel's recent two-part, 4 hour documentary special: "The Third Reich: The Rise and Fall" which uses never seen before footage from home movies of the German citizens, as well as allied troops. It was very well made, but some of the scenes were very disturbing to watch. If you haven't seen the special yet, I highly recommend it. You may start to think about things differently.

I have noticed while watching that documentary, there are a lot of similarities to what's going on in America these days. Creating enemies to justify wars, Demonizing Muslims, (they are the new Jews), the whole, "if you're not with us, you're against us" mentality of the post 9/11 Bush era, the Wiki Leaks controversy, wiretapping our citizens, recruiting people to spy on their neighbors (a more recent development), etc. From what I saw in that documentary, if we continue down the path we are treading today, America will swiftly become the Fourth Reich.

Over 1000 Birds Fall Dead From the Sky

I'm guessing the fish are a coincidence due to the distance involved (they weren't next to each other; so to speak...).

Although, fireworks (or things like that) due make some sense. I wonder if there were any "town" shows as I saw mention of only revelers for fireworks (which seems highly unlikely to cause something like this; unless these birds have a form of mass hysteria, like humans).

The lightning sounded like a better idea, but they should be able to match it to the autopsies. It'll be better once they have a few thorough autopsies done and a good idea of "where" they died (altitude, in the general area or a slight wind carry). Maybe, even a sonic boom could be at play. A plane might be able to make one loud enough, but if it happened at 30k like proposed I'm unclear whether residents would even hear a sonic boom. Also, I'm unsure as to the strength of a thunderclap (as it's also a "sonic boom", to some degree--far different cause than speed, as in lightning's case it's temperature variants), can the thunder cause a "fish in a barrel type effect, especially if the birds were in a storm with rain or a "heavy" cloud structure.

Maybe they were stunned and the fall actually killed them. Hopefully, we find out quick. I always fine these large die-offs interesting as sometimes the causes can give us more insight into how our planet works. One (actually two, in the same place) that I can think of off the top of my head was a Human die-off.

It was from Lake Nyos, in northwest Cameroon. Lake Nyos is one of three "exploding lakes" here are two interesting articles about them, but there is a (it's a National Geographic show, I'm very unsure of the title, it's related to the BBC show, "Killer Lakes", I just put up here; at the bottom is the link for it), but I know Lake Nyos is included in it) show about it which is a must watch -- they figured out what was happening basically on accident as well (this was not even a theory before; now they're afraid there are "mega-pockets" which is talked about in a History Channel "Mega Disasters" episode (I think "Methane Explosion", though "Methane" is used for sure) -- if something happens at an "ocean geographic scale" it would kill a lot of people; it has the potential to be worse than Yellowstone, but we have absolutely no information on the likelihood of this occurring nor the size of such an event). Nyos killed roughly 3500 livestock and 1700 people, some of the villagers were 16 miles from the lake. One of the other lakes is in Cameroon and the other is in Rwanda.

Here are the Wikipedia links:

Limnic Eruptions or also known as Exploding Lakes -- think of them as being somewhat like a soda can with the lid popped off and some Mentos thrown in.

Second, Lake Nyos which killed a large amount of people in 1986 and left scientists baffled.

There are some media links at the bottom of the wiki articles.

Here is the BBC documentary I just put up for the sift (HORiZONS, BBC World); trust me it's an interesting watch. Make sure you have time to watch it as it comes in at a FULL episode and is 44 minutes long. This documentary talks about the 1986 disaster and the mystery surrounding it.

They'll get into the mechanics and also show the reason some scientists are scared this WILL happen again, but this time it might kill hundreds of thousands--maybe more...

UFO Conference 9/29/10

What could they possibly gain from that?

Fear is a very useful tool, distraction is also, while a sense of belittlement might help one control the masses. I´ve asked myself that question many times, but not so much governments I think, but more people with power. I don´t mean to sound paranoid or conspiratorial, but more skeptical; you look at various things like the disclosure project, history channel: UFO documents, etc, x files, etc... Not all, but most seem to be coming from right wing biased sources or military links or news corp: fox.

Like so many falacies without proof, from ghosts, the coming of christ to 2012 doomsday and stuff, people that have a reason to want to believe because it gives meaning to their lives for x or y reason, doesn´t mean its part of everyone´s reality. Although I still maintain an open mind.

This is how the History Channel died

kranzfakfa says...

The History Channel is to history what baconnaise is to condiments.

I was trying (but have failed) to find a War Nerd column (highly recommended reading) on the subject of american military revisionism in WW2. The Sherman "makeover" as actually being a really nice tank and yadayadayada was part of a larger jingoistic effort during the start of the current desert wars. Remember those days of red, white and blue fever? Wonder if the History channel will make a doc on that...

As for the Sherman, you just need to look at it. I would call it a VW Beetle with a turret mounted on top, but that would be insulting a fine car.

The truth of course is that the real WW2 was fought on the eastern front and the might of the Wehrmacht was only halted by rivers of Russian blood.
