Restored World War II Footage in High Definition

The trailer is obviously not HD resolution, but it still gives an idea of the enhanced color and clarity. It seems like a unique opportunity for this subject to reach a new audience; if the History Channel does it right, it'll be as much a stunning display of journalism as a reminder of the tragedies of hate.

"When History announced its development slate a couple months back, there was one item in their release that sounded really interesting: Taking vintage WWII film footage and converting it into high definition for the first time.

At the network's press tour panel in Pasadena today, History opened with a trailer for the resulting project, 'WWII in HD,' and the images were stunning.

There's still the grain, scratches and flatness that one expects from 65-year-old footage, but you also get a sense that you're looking at a moment in history from a perspective you have not seen before. It's a safe bet that Hilter-in-high-def will do well for the network, especially with History taking the extra step of crafting a story around the footage rather than simply leaning on images."
