Ha he's on form with this one for sure. Despite me not liking the graphical style at all it does just strike me as boring. And all that nonsense about zillions of guns? Really? It's just a huge grind. I'd rather have a focused corridor-shooter with finely honed mechanics and a great story. Yes I'm awaiting the next Bioshock game.

This particular video I linked to was shot in North Kingston, RI where the Acela runs at it's max of 150mph. @deathcow Why do you need to upgrade anything? Like every other potentially decent PC game in the last 5 years, it's being designed for Xbox and PS3. If you can run other recent FPS's, this should be no problem. I'm still running Core2Duo (oc'd) and a 5870 (also oc'd). I have another, still brand new 5870 sitting on a shelf that I just haven't been bothered to Crossfire yet. Haven't needed it (been sitting there for about two years; but maybe this weekend...). This is a corridor shooter. It has to be in order to run on consoles without choking. Even the outdoor areas are claustrophobic.
It's sad that there is so much emphasis on graphics over substance nowadays. It's the only thing game developers have left to convince PC gamers that they aren't selling the PC version short, even though it isn't the lead platform... better graphics, more graphic options, higher resolutions. I don't give a shit about "Pixel Accurate Displacement Mapping" or "Tessellated Vegetation", and if the game is worth playing as a GAME, you won't even notice it. Doom2 is still more fun today than any of the consolized dross released for PC in the last 6-8 years.

I think hands down my favorite FPS ever is System Shock 2 with Half-Life coming close.
My favorite games ever are all tied though. Planescape: Torment, Bladur's Gate 2, Fallout 1&2 and Alpha Centauri. Half Life and SS2 close and Homeworld close by to there, Thief close as well.
They certainly don't make FUCKING awesome games like they used to, everything is hand fed to a stupid gamer populous. I don't remember the last time I was challenged and simultaneously immersed in a game.


SS2 is the first only time I've ever been truly freaked out by a game.

I was walking, creeping more like, into a large storage room, when all a sudden I decide to turn around and a head-slugged dude apparently, silently, followed me out of the corridor I had just "cleared" and screamed "KIIILLLLLL MEEEE!!!!!" and fucked my shit up.

I actually screamed.

I'm a SharePoint Consultant and Software Engineer from North Carolina, but I'll be honest, I disguise my accent when I'm speaking with clients, if only because it sounds strange to my ears to say "Let's talk about your information architecture" with a drawl. I'm also not truly a native, having only lived here since high school.

That said, I deal with locals on a daily basis who are both highly technical and very southern. Accent just doesn't equate to intelligence. A better metric would be whether they go to church on Wednesday night (although some of the finest software engineers I've worked with have also been devoutly religious, so w/e.)

In North Carolina we have centers of civilization, usually areas surrounding the I40 corridor, and then we have the boonies. I would invite you to come to Chapel Hill or Durham on a Friday afternoon and have some drinks on the patio.

Ya, I did notice the extra information was nice in a certain way. I remember in avatar, the simple action of walking down a corridor had more depth because of the...well, perceived depth. I like the idea of 3d, I just don't want to compromise! Short of goofy headsets, or retinal scanners, I don't think my slightly unreasonable need for fidelity can be realized. That said, has any one done any 3d glasses gaming? My card supports it, in theory, but it is ancient and I don't want it to explode.

I wont argue your point, but I can say for sure the extra depth information gained by using two eyes offsets the resolution loss to some degree.

Judging by those corridors packed full of people with their children waiting for Santa, I would say it's not only Santa that seems to be failing.
