How do vending machines figure out if coins are fake or not?

SFOGuy says...

Wait, this is super awkward.
This a dupe and Eric3579 pointed out to me.
So, I tried to "isdupe" my own posting and he told me how to kill it.

So I did.
And here it is on the first page.

Not even sure how; so---people are enjoying this unworthy clone--should I leave it or kill it with extreme prejudice (and how did it even escape that fate with a clone???).

Perhaps Sifters will speak and I will follow their wishes.

Computer Nightmares, China USB hub kills PC by design

They have without doubt some of the most quality engineered laptops on the planet. I have a Macbook and my wife has an Asus Macbook clone (straight down to the silver-polish finish). And yes, hers cost less and has a dedicated GPU so she could play games on it (if she had any interest in games) but the Macbook is lighter, keeps the battery charged longer, has a much more beautiful display (Retina vs Full Hd), is much more comfortable to type with, and the touchpad is just freaking heaven to use. I now hate having to use touchpads on any Windows laptop, even my bootcamped Mac!

And you hit the nail on the head about using the right tool for the right job--I work with video as part of my job sometimes and I don't think I can ever go back to video editing on a Windows machine. I can do it easier and faster on an OSX device.

I think also the initial outward simplicity of Mac operating systems makes them ideal for people who don't want to or don't have time to become "computer people" and worry about dealing with downloading the latest drivers or all of the other BS that you need to constantly deal with on a Windows machine. I especially wish my dad, who is constant calling me and my brother for help with his PC, would just switch over to a Mac as it would solve probably 95% of the issues he calls us about.

The Trouble with Transporters

transmorpher says...

Good point. I'm not aware of any clone armies at all. Probably more likely to do with budget and technical challenges than anything else.
TNG at least is very much focused on the human condition, and just uses a sci-fi theme to explore it. So I guess when it comes to cloning, they were able to explain individuality, past choices, regrets, missed opportunities etc easily enough with just one clone instead of many.

question for Trekkers:
There have been a few episodes where the transporter messed up and there were copies - which means it is possible to create a clone army - so why haven't there been any episodes with a clone army? Is there a "Directive" forbidding this in intergalactic law? Even if so, a "bad guy" could still break the law and do it.
The Federation aren't the only ones with transporter technology, right?

lol - Cable is the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey's clone.
I must be a geek, but I've been waiting from the beginning of the x-men movies for Cable and Bishop. They had Bishop in the Alt universe in the last X-movie but we didn't really get to see him much. I'm hoping he comes back with Cable.

if blizzard were 100% honest with us

entr0py says...

Exactly, in the same way that Pandarans from Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (2003) are a clone of Kung Fu Panda (2008). I don't know how Blizzard so consistently rips off the future.

Maybe Diablo is a clone of DnD, but that's a stretch unless you are willing to say that every CRPG (and action RPG) is a clone of DnD...

Trump Debating Trump

haha, this is some nightmare alternate reality where Trump has used his fortune to clone himself so he are the only candidates like wot in tha futurama episode. Head-in-a-jar-Nixon does almost seem preferable...

Babymech says...

I hate to break it to you but everytime they used their transporters they killed themselves and created a new clone in their place. This is a civilization that would commit suicide every week just to visit a vacation planet, or just to move from room to room quickly. There has to be a better way to live.

And here we are again.
THIS is the reason why we can't have nice things.
Instead of agreeing that certain things are wrong and need to be changed, we argue about who got it worst. Instead of acknowledging that we have a lot work to do until we become the nice people Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek wants us to be, we fight about shitty details.

The Force Awakens - spoiler free review (Spacy Talk Post)

Attack of the Tomatoes, err Clones.

Who is NOT going to see Force Awakens/Episode VII(7/) right away? I am most likely going to wait a little bit. Also, were there a lot of len flares from JJ?

I'm happy to see they've solved the intelligence, charisma, and cuteness degradation in the cloning process. They just need to work on the occular degradation effects, apparently.

I, for one, would like to welcome our future Cute-As-Buttons Clone Overlords.

Can a Star Wars Blaster Bolt Be Dodged?

SDGundamX says...

Okay, I'll be that guy.

(assumes Comic-book guy from Simpsons voice)

Actually, by the time of Episodes 4, 5, & 6 the technology of cloning from Jango Fett's DNA had been lost. Most of the stormtroopers at the time of Episode 4 consisted of human recruits (as evidenced by their various heights, weights, and voices in the movies). Hence, the stormtroopers' lack of blaster accuracy cannot be attributed to cloning degradation.

Dude, the Stormtrooper are clones. Did you ever make a copy of a VHS copy? They're always shittier than the original.
