Adam Ruins Everything - Real Reason Hospitals Are So Costly

JiggaJonson says...

Careful, if @bobknight33 sees you saying that he'll respond with some pretty harsh criticism. I'll pull quotes from his profile to simulate what he would say.

"Cuba citizens live as long and pay less? That Communism is better? That Cubans live shit life's but have live as long? Sign me up for that stuff... Then I 'll build a boat out of trash bans and float 90miles to tot the USA for a worse life. Sign me up for that stuff.

Every group that a has money at stake are trying to influence the people / governments one way or another in their favor.

All those hard line [prices] are only starting negotiating positions.

Trump is punking the shit out of liberals. Too funny. No real evidence or facts. just "sources" for liberal media false hype to continue its 24/7 anti Trump narrative."

A good start would to make facilities post their cost for services.

Another would be to only allow x% profit on a good or service.

AHCA: A Republican Response to The Affordable Care Act

What exactly is your point?

You point about an article from 2014 ( obama care era) that the current system is shit?

What is you point because are not putting anything out but your straw man argument.

Look it up.

America was 50th out of 55 countries in 2014, according to a Bloomberg index that assesses life expectancy, health-care spending per capita and relative spending as a share of gross domestic product. Expenditures averaged $9,403 per person, about 17.1 percent of GDP, that year — the most recent for which data are available — and life expectancy was 78.9. Only Jordan, Colombia, Azerbaijan, Brazil and Russia ranked lower.

Cuba and the Czech Republic — with life expectancy closest to the U.S. at 79.4 and 78.3 years — paid much less on health care: $817 and $1,379 per capita. Switzerland and Norway, the only countries with higher spending than the U.S. — $9,674 and $9,522 — had longer life expectancy, averaging 82.3 years.

Less than 1/10 the cost for better results sure sounds better to me.

Making a model Steel Bridge for a 3rd grade project

Jinx says...

We made viking longboats when I was a kid. My mum and I got well into it, we built a proper keel and ribs and then layered strips of card for the hull. She did quite a bit of the fiddly construction, but we did the research and planning together and I was thrilled to be making something totally awesome.

There is obviously value in getting kids to go away and create something independently, but real life projects are usually collaborative, even if reading any CV makes it seem otherwise. In the end it was a different (obviously inferior ) boat that "won", but you better believe that if my hypothetical kids ever have to build a boat that I am going to pass on what my mum passed on to me.

Voluntaryism

I'm sorry, that must be a miscommunication. It isn't that they are "forced" to stay on the island necessarily. It's that they lack the means to leave. That is, chopping down a tree to build a boat would be stealing, and they can't swim the distance necessary to get to any other dry land.

blankfist said:

@bmacs27, first, that's a very specific scenario, and I think we can safely assume most, if not all, people wouldn't find themselves in this situation. Second, the island you describe doesn't sound like it fits any of the non-aggression principle's criteria, namely because it doesn't sound like people are allowed to leave. Therefore they're being coerced to stay, I assume. So, that sounds more like a governed society than a free one.

"I Believe" - perfect blend of blasphemy and faith

Grimm says...

I don't agree...it's the difference between the bullshit your familiar with and the bullshit your not familiar with.

How about an ancient jew building a boat big enough to store not just two of each animal but 14 of each and every bird, 14 of each and every clean animal, and 2 of each every unclean animal?

or

Ancient jews taking a boat to the America's?

If you can buy into the first it's not much of a stretch to buy into the second.>> ^EMPIRE:

All religions are complete bullshit, don't get me wrong. But it's as Sam Harris once said, you take christianism, pile on another set of stupid shit on top of it, and you get mormonism. So obviously by that reasoning, Mormonism is even stupider than Christianism.

SpaceShip2 (Virgin Galactic) Assemby Video

Composite structures are different from what we usually see in planes, which are "monococque" structures of a frame and stressed skin. These are hand-laid fibers of a tensile strength higher than that of steel, embedded in epoxy, vacuum bagged, then catalytically cured or cured in ovens. Sometimes a single filament of tremendous length is wrapped continuously around the parts, providing even higher strength. It has nothing to do with robots. More like building a boat or musical instrument or weaving or something. I think it's almost always done with careful hands and experienced eyes, and yes, often by guys in old concert t'shirts.

Yeah, a robot can stuff a board with chips, or spot-weld a chassis, or be your cruel master, but robots are dumb. They can't see, feel, intuit, craft. Believe me, the human hand is not something to be underestimated.

Plus, this is the second one. They've already proved that it works. So there. And you all want to give these nice folks jobs away to our cold hearted overlords. For shame.

Robot walks into a bar,
Orders a drink, lays down a bill,
Bartender says 'we don't serve robots',
robot says 'No, but someday you will'.

something ive come across many, many, many times (its a fairly common theme). why, just why does religion get special dispensation as an "idea" or w/e you want to call it. how come muslim/christian/jew "bashers" give athiests a bad name?
suppose i pointed out how much i disagreed with say, communism. that i think its so totally open to corruption that it could never reasonably work to its true intent in any country. most likely id find some who agree with me, some who don't and thats that. im not despised or called a horrible person for disliking it.
BUT should someone say, point out the fact that its physically impossible beyond all reason, belief or otherwise that 1 man, 1 woman and 3 sons could build a boat of massive proportions. stock it with untold numbers of animals (who all behaved very nicely together, thank you very much.) FEED and water all said animals for over a month and that the entirety of the globe was covered in water for such a time is so preposterous as to be absurd. should someone point this out they are called out as being "hateful" and biased and who knows what else. someone explain to me just why these 3 groups are untouchable by comment, critique or questioning.
