Scary Tunnel water park slide at Cascaneia

Mordhaus jokingly says...

Did you see the water quality in the Brazil Olympics? That's pretty scary stuff.

lucky760 said:

I don't get it.

What's scary about that?

I thought the tunnel'd be completely dark... or someone dressed as a zombie would reach out screaming at you or something.

Donna Brazile: HRC controlled DNC and rigged the primary

Donna Brazile: HRC controlled DNC and rigged the primary

CrushBug says...

There is still some debate on the authenticity of this.

I read an article last night by a lawyer (uninvolved with the DNC) who openly questioned whether Donna Brazile was looking at the 2015 or the 2016 JFA. The reason she was asking, was that the 2016 JFA, of course, contains nothing but mentions of HRC because she was at that time the nominee, which is to be expected.

I don't know the answer to any of these questions, but it was a fascinating article. I spent about 5 minutes trying to find it right now, but I read it last night at home on my iPad, so I don't have the history handy to find the article again easily.

Even Donna Brazile finds proof that the DNC rigged the primary in HRC's favour, that HRC's campaign used the DNC to circumvent donation caps, and that HRC's campaign vacuumed-up funds meant for the state parties: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Secret Takeover of the DNC

Looks like an attempt at white-washing her own complacency in the rigging, but it's juicy info nonetheless.

AHCA: A Republican Response to The Affordable Care Act

newtboy says...

Look it up.

America was 50th out of 55 countries in 2014, according to a Bloomberg index that assesses life expectancy, health-care spending per capita and relative spending as a share of gross domestic product. Expenditures averaged $9,403 per person, about 17.1 percent of GDP, that year — the most recent for which data are available — and life expectancy was 78.9. Only Jordan, Colombia, Azerbaijan, Brazil and Russia ranked lower.

Cuba and the Czech Republic — with life expectancy closest to the U.S. at 79.4 and 78.3 years — paid much less on health care: $817 and $1,379 per capita. Switzerland and Norway, the only countries with higher spending than the U.S. — $9,674 and $9,522 — had longer life expectancy, averaging 82.3 years.

Less than 1/10 the cost for better results sure sounds better to me.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) - Official Trailer

JustSaying says...

Are you familiar with Zheng He? He led expeditions to east Africa in the early 1400s. Nobody in east Africa speaks chinese.
Of course you know Christopher Columbus. All of south America speaks spanish now. With the exception of Brazil, they speak portuguese thanks to some Pope, if I remember correctly.
That's what I'm talking about.
It's not the genes, it's not even the corruptive nature of power, it is culture. European culture. The only way we started to begin to understand the error of our ways was to wage two catastrophic wars against each other that destroyed our continent to an unseen extent. Sadly, we exported that toxic element of our culture to another continent. Just look at recent elections.

And in regards to the whitewashing of this IP, well, Hollywood doesn't trust its audience to embrace a more colorful world. It's gotten better but it's still a long way to go. At least we're going there. I just wish we'd hurry up a bit. I'm still baffeled about that Airbender movie and how they fucked up casting that so badly.
I like Johansson but she makes as much sense in that role as a black James Bond. It one of the things that make me hope the movie is good despite of it.

Are you implying that white people are shitty to everyone else because they are white? Or is it less about skin color and more about how a dominant culture/race treats and mistreats others?
No matter which group is currently dominant, power always corrupts.

Kevin Gosztola's beautiful rundown of how the Clinton campaign tries to dodge, evade and spin the Podesta emails:

Donna Brazile, in particular, needs to up her game. When Jordan Chariton kept pressing her on the issue, I almost felt sorry for her. Almost.

His follow-up is less entertaining, visually, but contains a lot more information.

Glenn Greenwald On Clinton vs. Trump

Wow. That whole thing was fascinating. Even the bit before the DT/HC discussion where he talks about Brazil's anti-democratic regime change.

I'll put a link here to the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3PUwSqnU8A

And *quality this. It's refreshing to hear such a thorough analysis about the two candidates from an outside perspective. Great find and post, @eric3579!

The DNC Email Hack: A Closer Look

notarobot says...

It's so involved that Hillary had to have known. She may be dishonest, but she isn't stupid.

I came across this comment on reddit:

"
We all know Debbie Wasserman Schultz (DWS) was the co-chair of Hillary's 2008 presidential run, where she lost the nomination to Obama. So, in order to lock down the nomination for 2016, Hillary was able to get DWS in charge of the DNC and manipulate it from within. That's the theory anyway, except....

In order for this to work, they would first have to, not only get the DNC chair to step down, but also get them to recommend DWS for the position. The Clinton's would have to promise something to that person, something more prestigious than being head of the Democratic party. So who was that person and what did they get in return?

It would appear that Donna Brazile was in-line to get the position, but she was only the interim chair after the previous chair left, served only one month. According to this, http://rulers.org/usgovt.html#parties, the previous chair of the DNC prior to DWS was Tim Kaine.

Yes, HRC Vice President running m8 Tim Kaine.

Do you have anything decent on the impeachment of Rousseff in Brazil?

Everything I've come across is quite irreconcilable with Glenn Greenwald's comments on this matter. He's probably biased in this regard, but all the reporting over here is either devoid of any useful information or plainly full of shit.

Well, sure, but it was at least slightly amusing that a fund run by David Cameron’s father avoided paying tax in Britain http://gu.com/p/4tvn6/stw (as far as I can tell just about legal, but very shady) and watching FIFA squirm (again) could provide some amusement too.

Maybe my outlook is coloured by living in a country where although we don't have a huge problem with corruption (at least compared to Brazil, or the US) we can very much appreciate the Brazilian saying about corruption inquiries ending in pizza...

The fact that a German lawyer by the name of Jürgen Mossack co-founded MossFon might motivate same folks to at least dig deeper into MossFon, which would be a start.
