Mexican Cuisine in California
There are many misconceptions of Mexican Cuisine. I am probably one of many that apart of this misconception. I have noticed many Indian and Thai restaurants have Mexicans cooking those respective cuisines, not because they are cheap labor but because they are diverse in their respective trades.
"Mexican" food is popular all over but the Taquerias in San Francisco are well known around the US and locally. But, the food served in the Taquerias are actually a San Franciscan cuisine. The San Francisco burrito is just that. It was made here, it is an American food influenced by Mexican cuisine but geared towards us gringos. This is not necessarily true for everything on the menu of course.
Regardless, it is very good. Surprisingly, one of my favorite "Mexican" food spots is in a very industrial area of Oakland in the form of a food truck. You would never know it by the taste of the food. IT IS AMAZINNNNNNN!!! Amazingly tasty fresh salsa. a secret spicy salsa, great beans, great tortilla, tomato friend rice, carne asada to scream for. The best tacos I have ever had in Cali and a burrito that rivals SF's best and they do it everyday, so it is not a fluke and it takes place on a truck.

Lentil soup (food for sifting) (Food Talk Post)
I like to make my own stock from my veggie peelings and trimmings, I simmer them with a bay leaf and it ends up working pretty well.
Other times I use Massel veggie stock in a tin - http://www.massel.com.au/products/stock_powder.shtml - it's hard to find ones which don't have either MSG (I don't like the chemically after taste of MSG) or palm oil or trans fats (from Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil for instance) but that one is pretty good.
Another nice soup is spring vegetable soup, like this one:

Or for the left over split red lentils, these koftesi have almost the same ingredients as the soup but make a quite different meal:

Finally, a hearty soup for carnivores is Scotch broth:

It's interesting you mention Tamari, my Dad uses gravy powder in his veggie soup Strangely, the gravy powder I have is vegan... not sure how that works, but it tastes spot on.
MMmmmmm... a few things to consider adding to a basic water/oil/savories type stock for anyone not wanting to use meat or chicken:
Tamari, Bragg's All-Purpose Seasoning, or there's this really good brand of vegetarian boullion Better Than Boullion, comes in about 5 varieties, including lobster and shrimp-You might also try some Traditional Molé, the Mexican paste used for tamales and other dishes...
This is a great basic procedural for most broth based, hearty soups-Nice one, oritteropo
Mmmmmm, loves me some Split Pea Soup now that I'm thinking about it....
Mr. Bean - The Holiday Suitcase
I hear that British people don't find Mr. Bean all that funny. Of course, that's probably coming from a single British guy speaking for the entire population, but it makes me wonder how many Brits actually do enjoy Mr. Bean.
British Sifters, weigh in.
Mr. Bean - Street Performance
Some people don't enjoy Mr. Bean, but I really dig him and always have.

Elizabeth Warren: what would it take to shut down a big bank

She's asking for expert opinions about criminal charges - these guys are bean counters - not the experts on criminal code. They could give personal opinions, which seems like what she wants, but you could see why they wouldn't do that, unless they want the Attorney General opining on monetary policy..
Listen again...she is crystal clear over and over again that she is asking for an "expert opinion" from these guys who are supposed to be the experts in our government on money laundering.
They don't need to have the "authority" to shut down a bank to provide an "expert opinion" do they? Why won't they answer? It's not a trick question...they fully investigated this bank and apparently gave them the maximum fines that they were allowed to...so why dance around the question? How could they not have an opinion?
