I've never heard of this instrument before, but it can sound like everything from a theremin, kazoo, bagpipes, and evidently as we see in the OP video, synth. Pretty amazing.

Not a zurna, it's a gajda - bulgarian bagpipe. And horo means "dance". The dance is a (fast) ruchenitsa. There are many variations.

He was off the rythm and tune in several parts. This was truly awful, and I actually kinda like bagpipes when played properly.

I would love to see some trained musicians play these things properly. They don't sound too unlike bagpipes that "can" sound awesome in the right context.
