TF2 - A Dramatic Escape

RedSky says...

End of the round if you lose, you run around with your hands flailing around in the 3rd person unable to use your guns. Basically a quick mini game of hide and seek where the winning team hunts down the survivors from the round with all their hits being 100% critical hits. In this case the engineer class built a teleporter entrance and teleported out just in time to evade the critical rocket heading towards him. He already had the teleporter exit built elsewhere as you can see.

Y Axis (User Poll by dystopianfuturetoday)

NetRunner says...

Inverted.

The real interesting one to ask would be X-axis inversion for the right stick while playing a 3rd person game. There are more than a few that don't let you change it, and there's not a real standard for whether pushing the camera stick right means that the camera moves to its right (meaning the view turns left), or pushing the stick right means the camera moves to its left (meaning the view turns right).

I'm not even sure which I'm most used to. I think the former.

Shattered Horizon - Zero Gravity FPS

westy says...

>> ^xxovercastxx:
This trailer is all I've seen of the game, but it doesn't strike me as significantly different than the realistic/tactical shooters which have plagued deathmatch for the last 10 years or so. The only difference between this and CS/CoD/FEAR/SWAT/SoF2/BF/ET/MoH is everyone is floating. Innovation in the FPS is dead and the only thing keeping the genre profitable is an overabundance of testosterone & Xbox Live.

The roasoin there are no more pure arcade shoots is because Quake 2,3 unreal tourny,2003, pretty much allow for all the variables one could passably want for arace shooters. other than changing the art style what can be done in maps and charactor mods for the latter games, there would be no real piont in relasing a fast passed shooter , that and the fact that they wont sell well on a console due to the controler method.

Its definitely the case that even tactical fps shooters have stagnated to some existent The battlefield sherries has been quite innovative and supported some quite progressive mods though.

What I think could be done and should be done is a GTA IV style game in first person , if you look at the GTA IV first person mods its actually quite remarkable. A proper first person game with realistic car physics and an inner city setting would be something really grate.

playing games in 3rd person to me makes a game feal childish and silly to some existent ( which is fine for many ganras of game) but when a game is generally realistic it seems strange to present it in 3rd person , especially as people are widely accustomed to first person on console and pc now.

he talks totally out of his Arse. typical up-your-own-arse artist.

NEVER EVER TALK ABOUT YOURSELF IN THE 3RD PERSON. it's utterly pretentious, even for an artist.

"she is the eternal virgin".. no, she really isn't!!!!

Zero Punctuation: Saints Row 2

Nebosuke says...

So.... we just need Evil Genius 2: Henchman for Hire. Where you are the top henchman working for the evil genius of your choice and running around in direct 3rd person.

So how about it Elixir Studios? Oh, you were working on it? But you went under and all your IP got bought by Rebellion Developments who only makes crap games and crappier ports (except maybe Rogue Trooper). Darn it all.

Highlights of the 1st Presidential Debate

spoco2 says...

My running commentary while watching this
===

* McCain saying that Obama's voting record is very left, very liberal... um... All that does is make me like Obama more.

* WTF on spending freeze on everything but Military ones... Yeah, let's not spend anything on health, education, infrastructure, social security, ANYTHING... But f*ck it, let's spend on up big on those guns. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK Him.

* Holy crap does McCain calling himself a Maverick of the Senate just shit me up the wall... Giving yourself a title like that is so phony, so hollow, such bullshit.

* Trying to suggest there's some long list of things he's gone again Bush on... I'd like to see the list he has gone WITH him on vs those he's gone against him on, AND weights against them for actually how different they were and how important each decision was.

* OH MAN can you look at and address Obama directly? Obama looks at McCain, addresses McCain, tries to talk directly with him, and McCain refuses to look at, or address him directly. Does this not make people pause to think that the man has issues with confrontation? Issues with speaking directly to others... wouldn't you just LOVE to have him across a negotiating table staring off to the right while address you through a 3rd person.

* I just like Obama when he speaks, I mean look at him on the end, strides over to McCain, 'Good Job', shakes hands... McCain looks like a withered prune who doesn't quite know what he's doing.

Please don't let McCain run your country.

Please.

I Am Alive -- E3 Trailer

lavoll says...

i'll give fallout a chance, for sure what i didnt like about the fallout demo was the "you can watch 1st person, or 3rd person", and then 3rd person was almost the same as 1st person just with your character a little to the left of the screen. i prefer the "god looking down" type of view that the first ones had

Zero Punctuation Review: Alone in the Dark

budzos says...

I'm currently slogging through Alone In The Dark, although I haven't played it in a couple days. I played the first two games back when they came out. It's true, this game is not a true sequel to Alone In The Dark.

He never refers to the most annoying thing in the game: you are required to shift between 1st and 3rd person viewpoints constantly. Half the time the game does it for you without warning. The control is terrible in both viewpoints, and there is no camera control in third person. The game will also sometimes arbitrarily and without warning place the camera in a fixed remote viewpoint that's really confusing and also moves differently from the other two modes. This leads to a lot of falling off cliffs. You also will often find yourself wondering why you can't do something, only to realize you need to switch viewpoints.

There's also no way to skip the constant cutscenes.

I only keep playing it because the graphics and sound are decent and like Yahtzee says there are moments of brilliance.

I haven't skipped anything yet either, although I've been tempted. I actually like the driving sections.

I'd love to get a modern update to "Ecstatica". Anyone play that back in the day?

Star Wars Retrospective - Part 6

Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas - Ether Scene

Farhad2000 says...

Ether is one of the most interesting drugs I have tried, the feeling of disassociation with your body is pretty profound plus the feeling of being extremely drunk.

Me and my friend were experimenting on a rooftop patio, I remember being totally detached from my body, watching from a 3rd person perspective as he was moving contorted around me, freezing totally once, he told me that he totally black out at that time. It a hilarious night.

I wouldn't do it too often though, its really harsh on the lungs to huff it off a cloth. But thats a good thing considering its very chemically addictive. Also if you do attain some remember to do it soonish, or keep it in a medical grade flask as it evaporates very quickly.

Fallout 3 Collector's Edition announced (Videogames Talk Post)

uhohzombies says...

Oh man, I can't wait. I already pre-ordered my collector's edition even though I'll be in basic training when it releases. The first two games are in my top 10 favorite games of all time. The 2nd part is my #1 favorite game ever. You won't NEED to have played them to get into the 3rd though.

Part 3 is a radical departure from the series, going from 3rd person isometric turn-based combat to a real time Oblivion style with Baldur's Gate-esque pausing for tactical decision making. If you want to understand a bit more of the backstory with the Brotherhood of Steel and the super-mutants, etc. then I would recommend playing at least part 2. Part 1 is excellent as well, but the graphics are a tiny bit worse, although it does have a character voiced by Richard Dean Anderson! Then again part 2 has Bull from Night Court!

So, yes, definitely play Fallout 2 if at all possible, especially if you are really into old-school RPGs.

Age of Conan: December 2007 Trailer

rychan says...

So, did they already have some mediocre game sitting around and they just decided to license the Conan name and pretend it was built in the Conan universe? Possibly a game about Odysseus or something? Or maybe the ancient Greeks? Throw in a snake statue and now it's Conan?

Very stabby trailer but I can't tell what the gameplay is like. I would guess it's a 3rd person action game? But sometimes it gave off an RTS vibe. Could be first person, as well.
