Hey, thanks for taking the time to explain. Much appreciated. Rock on, srd. :-)

In reply to this comment by srd:
Well, this explanation is what happens on the hardware level, i.e. in the wiring inside the CPU. On the software side you can emulate the carry-over by allocating several pieces of memory and checking bounds and doing carry-over manually. So you're manually programming around the hardware constraints.

Trouble here is, the programmer has to anticipate that the given constraint isn't sufficient for the use case and needs to be worked around. For scores this was obviously the case. For the levels, I'm pretty sure that noone ever really anticipated that someone would go through 255 levels of pacman.

It's basically the same expectation management on a human level that brought us the fear of the Y2K problem.

Nope I get it now, I missed a couple points last night. Sometimes I get confused !

In reply to this comment by srd:
I'm sorry but I may be missing your point. I did mention western europe, India and China. And to the best of my knowledge they are not within the US borders. With that in mind, how should I reply to your question?

In reply to this comment by BoneRemake:
Hey I am serious in my question on your post in sift talk. Every example you gave is within the amurican burders. Does your mind only exist within these boarders or is it only the post that does ? I am confused. To give my expectations an such would have to equate what went on within my own plae, which Might conflict with the nature of your original question. Woe is me. woe is me.

your description of the pink goop gave me images of dr. who rushing to save some amorphous alien race with intents that are both benign and malicious, but wholly misunderstood.

In reply to this comment by srd:
I'm very suspicious of pink goop. It may become alive and sentient in your body. Or creep out of the stomach right into your arteries where it will breed.

I keep having this mental image of Calvin (of Hobbes) at lunch in school telling Susy that it's Protozoa Spread with extra Amoeba Juice...

i think it's marshmallow cream. possible aerated marshmallow cream. but it's certainly something i don't think you should expose your bowels too.

In reply to this comment by srd:
Well, I've seen the fluff, and to be honest, I still couldn't tell you what it is. Except seriously, deeply disturbing.

In reply to this comment by peggedbea:
it ended in small children crying and teenage girl having an exasperate piss attack because I DIDN'T FUCKING KNOW WHAT THE HELL FLUFF WAS and a 4 year old can't explain it.

I like some techno/metal as much as the next guy i suppose, but that video just gave me a headache. It was difficult to watch the b/w crep explosions over, and over, and over. Eventually i found myself saying "Yea...ok I get it...you can make a BUNCH of different shapes" Also the music/beats did little to swap me away from a downvote.

Dont take it personally chief. I just didnt like the video.

In reply to this comment by srd:
Any reason in particular for the downvote, or were you just feeling a bit atonal at the time?

While I don't mind the downvote per se, I am a bit confused as to the why since I can't see any immediately obvious reason. A quick comment would be appreciated.

For some reason I'd have expected to see a fact-based program if it's called a "documentary".

Kind of disturbing to see the people who are so against "teaching to controversy" flocking around this production that lays on the mysticism so thick that I had to turn off after 3 minutes.

LOL..you watched THREE whole minutes?
and came to a conclusion about "teaching the controversy"?
WTG ebert!
eh../shrugs.maybe it is just me.if i watched THREE whole minutes of a two hour program i reserve my opinion due to the fact i know i have no clue wtf i am talking about.
