The M4 is a good weapon, provided it's user takes care of it.
The Heckler and Koch they speak if is an excellent weapon, and jams much less.
But yeah, that general was right - there's no point in replacing what we have now until there is a far superior weapon available.

I asked Farhad about this article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24229068 to get his opinion on if its truth or just media bullshit. Wondered if your thoughts differed at all since there has been countless debates about military weaponry. On the sift

Farhad2000 says...

It's true.

The following weapons are much better then the M4; the FN SCAR, the HK416 and the XM8 from Heckler & Koch. The XM8 was about to be picked up a few years ago but it all stopped.

All the weapons are mentioned are from Belgium and Germany, a military arms contract for the US Army would mean a huge loss for Colt which is a US arms firm. There is external pressure to keep with Colt even though its now an inferior design. 40 year old weapon design for a grunt field weapon is too long, its outdated, the AK has evolved in leaps and bounds comparatively to the 74 and 101 spec.

"Other issues were that the Army has a legislated obligation to prefer U.S.-based manufacturers, and that a previous agreement with Colt Defense required the Army to involve Colt in certain small-arms programs."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM8_rifle

Note: "Colt Defense LLC is the sole source supplier of the M4 Carbine to the US military and the only manufacturer worldwide that meets or exceeds all US military specifications for the weapon."

My personal belief is that there is also external pressure to hold off on replacing the rifles and carbine (as mentioned in the article) for something that is Future Combat spec like the OICW, but coming from a US manufacturer and not a German one (regardless of the fact that global economics means that the rifle would actually be made in Georgia). The XM spec weapons directly came from the OICW.

I don't believe the trails are done so much from a grunt perspective but from a cost benefit analysis with some big weights pressing to continue with the Colt license, Colt losing it and actually making a better weapon then the M4 is a huge financial loss for them.

So much for free markets eh?

I know there was a lot of debate on military weapons on certain posts. Saw this http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24229068 and wondered if you or MGR thought it had any weight or just the media making shit up again

Jack Elam was your Uncle? Man, that guy had a beautiful face- sincerely. Leone had an amazing eye for interesting faces, which is shown to amazing effect in this scene. Too bad he wasn't quicker on the draw, he might still be alive today!

In reply to this comment by Jordass:

Not a topic many people want to talk about but its absolutely true that MLK's message has been lost since his death, which I guess was the point in murdering him. We prop him up as a saint but really give no thought to what he was saying. Just because you name a street after him or even if you're black it doesnt mean you understand let alone follow the great things he stood for. I think this clip though for comedy purposes isnt far from what really would happen. It seems his memory is used just to push other peoples agenda. (Ex: college campus I heard a Pro Affirmative action speech using MLK's memory when in fact based on his own logic he would not be in favor of Affirmative action, but to bring that to their attention you must be a racist)

but "globalisation" is what ron paul wants, just not of government. trade only globalisation is good... well... not if you are american because you are gonna have to compete fairly and share resources.

problem is the dollar is so fucked, most people's opinions about the future are gonna change dramatically.

remind them that if they don't support ron paul, they support spending trillions on occupying an empire. Remind them how well that worked for Rome and Britain.

In reply to this comment by Jordass:
I was able to show my parents some of the Ron Paul videos, not the cheesy ones but the ones i thought got his message across best and they watched the NH debates. They said they like a good deal of what he says but he is still batshit crazy. They are old and jaded and see him as an ultra idealist to where its foolish in todays age. They see the world as inevitably moving toward globalization and to resist it is naive. It was the best i could do

Hello, Jordass, VS has gone through some changes. You can read about them here: http://www.videosift.com/talk/VideoSift-v31-Unveiled

Unsifted videos used to last for four days, but since the new code updates those vids only last two days. If you had any videos that were over the two day limit during the change, then they would be discarded. I can save one in another day or so when my promote power comes back, so if you tell me which one you'd like to save, I'll be more than happy to hook you up. Let me know.

In reply to this comment by Jordass:
Since you are ranked so high I was wondering why during last nights maintenance siftbot discarded all my unsifted videos before their time limits? Is there a sift rule I'm missing?

interesting story. and interesting that they think it's possible to buy a tv station with 4 million dollars!

there's too much info, and 95% of people don't want to filter it themselves. it's not stupidity it's laziness. fox comes along to filter it for them, they trust fox to filter it, and then they are in the deadly trap of never wanting to admit they were wrong to trust fox...

so they could come up with excuses all day, but they're never going to stop, think, and say "wow, you just changed my entire life! thanks son!"

did you try the constitutional angle with them? that's hard to argue against... although it does seem a bit "technical" and not "emotional" enough maybe.

who are they supporting?

anyway thanks for the story.

Sketch I feel your pain, I saw my republican parents over christmas who are in Georgia at the moment but are from Texas and they too never even heard of Ron Paul (they mainly watch Fox). When I mentioned both Money Bombs they said "well to raise that kind of money and i still havent heard of him he must be either be incredibly incompetent with getting his message out or a con man who is keeping all that money for himself". I really couldnt get anywhere with them so oh well their old and set in their ways.

Luckily I stumbled across your comment while I was reviewing my old sifts. What a great comment! If we could sift comments here this would be the first one I'd pick. Thanks so much for sharing.

Whats sad about this is i have a friend that did 2 years in the peacecore in the highest concetrated area of AIDS and AIDS related fatality in the world. She left after that because it ate her soul and in her own words "its fucked". She lost hope because warlords and others spread rumors that America invented the AIDS virus and infected them on purpose to kill the black man and she said many people there believed it. She was in charge of AIDS education but many didnt trust her, they thought she was there to infect more people by saying its "treatment". They also all refused condoms or any other type of safe sex either because of religous reasons or again distrust but still held to their right to have sex when ever they wanted. Everyone had mistresses, men and women, multiple ones as well, that both parties knew about. She was able to get through to some but nothing seemed to change since a lot of the people that she did get through to died anyway. She use to write emails 20 pages long to me once a month (the only time she had computer access) that i saved. All with horror stories and how today she held a child in her arms while they died. She has never been the same since.

Jordass~
Thank you for clarifying your point. You didn't come across like that in your last post when you said:
"I'm sorry but I dont see anything good about this, its all bullshit to me. Yes some medical conditions could be helped with it but that is a small minority, thats like saying all abortions are ok no matter what because they help rape and incest victims."~that was the argument I called silly, because it is. No offense, I hope

In reply to this comment by Jordass:
I see someone didnt like my comment but i dont downvote for ideas. However is my arugment silly because i dont like the idea of medical fixes for every thing in life even involving looks, size, brain patterns, chemical balances, abilitys, and so on or is my arugment silly only based on the fact that you disagree? I dont think your arguement is silly, like i said in my comment it can help people, all drugs can, but lets avoid misrepresentation, hell most the people i have known to take things like zanex didnt need them they just wanted to feel good. Does that mean no one should take it, no, does it mean that it doesnt or cant help anyone, absolutley not. So should we stop studing it, no, and i never made the claim to stop medical advances based on misuse. I see nothing silly about my logic to be cautious of pills being sold for one thing and could be used for another. Also the fact that i think the country has enough people with image problems to be reminded that it really does matter. I understand your problem. Hell i burn like a bitch and avoided the sun at all costs for most of my life and skin cancer runs so bad in my family im bound to get it. I also had serious weight problems a couple years back. You would think I would be jumping for joy for this pill but i dont think its iresponsible of me to hesitate and be weary of the consequences of wide spread use of this experimental drug
